5 Best Honeymoon Destinations in January 2021

Wanderlust for lovers.

Many couples that hoped to become newlyweds weren’t about to let anything hold them back from exchanging vows. Over the past few months, we’ve seen beautiful stories of people getting married in some of the most creative ways, and while nothing could stop love, honeymoons still had to take a backseat.

If you’re in the process of planning your honeymoon (again) or hadn’t gotten round to booking one, January 2021 could prove to be a great option. We really hope that by then, we’ll all be travelling again.

For potential honeymooners, January 2021 is far enough away that you don’t need to start booking anything anytime soon. From the way things are looking, by fall it seems like the landscape of travel will become clearer. We feel that airlines, hotels and tour operators will have found their rhythm again — so you’ll also feel more confident in globetrotting once more.

In terms of seasonal travel, January usually a little quieter than December, and so you’ll avoid peak season prices and snag some sweet deals. Here are the best honeymoon destinations in January 2021 — whom based on their current plans and announcements will be more than ready to welcome guests by then.

Hawaii

Good news if you’re looking to book a honeymoon in January 2021 to Hawaii! As of yesterday, Hawaii’s tourism authority has announced that from August 1 “travellers to Hawaii who have a valid negative COVID-19 test result up to 72 hours prior to arriving at Hawaii’s airports will not be subject to the 14-day quarantine. The FDA-approved PCR test from a CLIA-certified laboratory must be done prior to arrival. No testing will be provided upon arrival at the airport. You can click here to see the full press release.”

While much of the USA is struggling with the impact of COVID-19, at the time of publishing this article, Hawaii has reported under 1000 cases. For couples in this part of the world Hawaii’s stunning beaches, spectacular islands and spirited natural beauty offer a honeymoon haven within easy reach.

Sicily

While much of Italy struggled huge numbers of COVID-19 cases, although impacted, Sicily still managed to keep their numbers under 3500. As such, Sicily is hoping to boost tourism in the coming months by offering to subsidize travel and discounts on flights and hotels.

For honeymooners in Europe, or couples that are able to travel here and want a little taste of Italy in 2021, and feel comfortable booking fairly soon, Sicily could be a really good choice. The average day time temperature is around 12°C, so while it’s not too warm, you can still take advantage of being outdoors by dressing in a few warm layers. Of course, Italy just has a way of lending itself to romance, and Sicily with its long stretch of coast, mouthwatering food and stunning views will deliver on that promise.

New Zealand and Australia

Talk of both New Zealand and Australia creating a travel bubble poses exciting honeymoon options for couples living in either of those countries. Both countries managed to curb the mass spread of the virus successfully. While New Zealand and Australia are still working out how this travel bubble will work, even while international travel is off the cards, there’s a whole host of incredible destinations within an arms reach.

Honeymooners can take advantage of exploring their own backyard or explore their neighbours. New Zealand’s spellbinding fjords and colourful scenery are sure to be a wonderful place to celebrate tying the knot, and likewise, Australia is also a wonderland for newlyweds looking to deepen their bond.

Fiji

Earlier this week, Fiji’s Prime Minister announced a plan to his government that included joining the New Zealand and Australia travel bubble. Fiji has also fared well against tackling the virus and is open to welcoming travellers from New Zealand and Australia.

As of now travellers from either of these countries who want to visit Fiji will need to complete a two-week quarantine in their home country before travel or complete a one-week quarantine on arrival in Fiji at their own cost. While this may seem like a lot, we know the situation is constantly evolving and changing, so measures could be more relaxed later. The stunning island of Fiji is a great choice for a honeymoon.

Bermuda

On July 1st, 2020, Bermuda will open its borders again to travellers arriving by air. This luxury destination is the perfect place to have a five-star honeymoon in 2021. Surrounded by turquoise waters, this pristine island had very few COVID-19 cases so is in a good position to reinvigorate the tourism sector. For now, travellers are required to present a certified negative PCR COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure and ensure they have appropriate health insurance, and a number of other checks are also required, but as the months go by this will likely change.
