1. Amsterdam, Netherlands
The cosy cafes, the Glühwein beside an open fire and the scrumptious poffertjes make Amsterdam in winter an experience not to be missed. If you’d prefer to wrap up and head outside, be sure to wander the gorgeous icy canals, window shop as the snow falls or treat yourself to a cone of hot chips with mayo.
2. Budapest, Hungary
Famous for its thermal baths, Budapest is a perfect place to warm up during the winter. After basking in the mineral-infused natural springs, you can soak up some culture at one of Budapest’s many museums, before feasting on goulash, cabbage rolls and dumplings. Sounds like a perfect way to spend the day while the snow sprinkles outside.
3. Paris, France
Pastries, paintings and pungent cheese can only mean one thing: Paris. Say oui to the City of Lights in winter and you won’t be disappointed. Don your chicest scarf and hat and stroll the beautifully decorated storefronts on the Champs-Elysees, explore the Catacombs, or taste the hot chestnuts sold in the street. Although not a city exactly, the Swiss Alps are such a must see that we couldn’t leave them out. These enormous beauties will blow your mind, and in the best way possible. 5. Venice, Italy
Venice in winter is something different. Colder of course, but quieter, in a hauntingly beautiful kind of way. Lose yourself in its backstreets and hidden alleyways, stopping for a break to eat some delicious Italian food. Ride a gondola past historic monuments and hidden treasures, and listen for the creepy stories of the past. 6. Prague, Czech Republic
Winter turns Prague into a magical city, with its red rooftops sprinkled with snow and its cosy cafes beckoning you in from the cobblestone streets. Be sure to take a river cruise on the Vltava, and relax in a dark smoky jazz bar in the evening to absorb every moment this romantic city has to offer.
