The one thing on this planet that I love most, that I would traverse the globe for and cherish every fleeting moment with is pizza.
Popular worldwide, there is one type of pizza and one place that gives every saucy pie lover around the world chills. The pizza is deep dish. The place is Chicago. It’s truly a thing of beauty.
My first stop, was recommended by a friend who had been to Chicago a year prior. So the first thing I did after stepping off that plane (not even kidding) was head straight to Pizano’s for step one of my pizza journey to end all pizza journeys.
To describe this first bite of deep dish pizza is impossible. It was magical and something I had been waiting a long time for. This is when I realized how different deep dish pizza really was, it truly is a “pizza pie.” Over the 4 days I spent in Chicago, I checked out 5 different pizza joints and rated them all out of 10 to ensure that you, our humble readers, never waste one bite on an unworthy slice of the good stuff.

It was the first one I tried and my favourite. I mean, you could argue I was biased after trying it but you’ll just have to head to Chicago to see why yourself. Seriously, do it.
The restaurant itself is laid back and the staff are amazing! We were a bit taken aback when our server giggled and said we should order the medium deep dish pepperoni pizza instead of the large. That was the best piece of advice we got on the trip since it was the largest and thickest pizza I’ve ever experienced in my life.

Giordano’s is one spot you always hear about when you plan a trip to Chicago. I mean, it was delicious, but it wasn’t my favourite of the ones I tried.
The crust was very different from the others, a bit harder without as much flavour, which is the biggest reason their score was a bit lower. After all, crust can be just as important as the rest of the pie! However, it’s a bit more affordable if you’re reaching your budget for the day.

I promise you, Pequod’s Pizza won’t disappoint. One thing that always stands out to visitors here is the caramelized crust. I’ll give you a moment to register that. Yes, a caramelized crust. This is done by the chefs spreading a thin layer of cheese outside of the crust before cooking the pizza.

Another traveller favourite, for a good reason. It’s basically amazing in every way. The best part is, it offers options. You can sit in the restaurant or order in to eat while you Netflix and chill after a long day exploring the city.

The original deep dish is a must try even if you’ve had 20 slices in a day. No need to add any extra toppings as it’s epic on its own.
At the end of my deep dish adventure around Chicago, one thing was clear. Chicago does pizza right, and two weeks later I’m still craving it. One tip though: if your server tells you that you should just stick with a medium versus a large, listen to them – deep dish is a whole different ball game even for the hungriest pizza lover.
