  The 11 day cheap tour with overnight train and Nile cruise to sites south of Cairo was something we wouldn't have done without local coordination by Ahmed in Cairo. We had booked a stay on our own the first two days and Egypt Direct picked us up and brought us to its designated hotel. Ahmed made sure that our needs were met throughout. The slow trip south by overnight train was like in an old movie. Our arrival was anticipated to be sometime within a two hour window. Our local contact Mustafa was profusely apologetic. He had come two hours early but somehow missed us while we were surrounded by local drivers trying to get us into their cars. Just like in the movies! We got to our ship the Princess Sarah II and to make amends Mustafa tried hard to get us a SIM card that would fit my new iPhone 13 Pro but nothing was compatible yet. We met Ahmed in Luxor our local guide who was fluent in English and very knowledgeable of ancient Egypt. He loaned us one of his phones which we used for the rest of our stay there as a hotspot so we could have internet. Ahmed in Cairo was always concerned that we could communicate with him. We felt at ease with both Ahmeds (common name) at our service. The cruise ship had good facilities and meals. The leisurely nature of the cruise eased us further into the past. We felt the stone structures, the grit, the messages left by people thousands of years ago. Local guide Ahmed translated these messages and did not overburden us with dates and so forth. During personal conversations with guides and drivers my wife and I (retired college teachers) learned even more about Egypt. This trip was an experience that we will cherish more than photos of us in front of exotic backdrops.

  We did a 5 day nile cruise tour with Mac as our guide and absolutely loved it. We’re from Australia and have always wanted to visit Egypt, he made it so much more for us, his knowledge of the country and ancient Egyptian sites was very broad. He was always very friendly and allowed plenty of free time for us to explore on our own if needed. The whole tour was flexible and I couldn’t recommend him high enough. Thanks Mac :)

  What an amazing trip! We felt safe and secure with our knowledgeable guide Maha and expert driver Hussan. In addition there was good on-the-ground monitoring of tour activities by the local authorities and we found this, and the level of security at tourist sites, to be very reassuring. We had excellent help and advice in organising our visit from Egypt Direct Tours' Mr Ahmed. This tour is an ideal way to enjoy the incredible history of Cairo and Alexandria with minimal hassle, from airport pick-up and drop-off to included lunches in well-selected restaurants. Maha's enthusiasm for her country's history shone through to give us meaningful and memorable insights into key events that produced incredible structures such as the pyramids, sphinx, mosques, churches and citadels. Top tip...do not miss the chance to visit the Solar Boat while at the Pyramids..it's a small additional charge but worth every penny. This particular tour and the operator are highly recommended by our party which spanned three generations. The Egyptian people are so friendly and make you feel very welcome. They greatly appreciate tourists' contribution to their economy. Do support them with visits to their unique country through Egypt Direct Tours.
