Back in 1989, two guys from Melbourne, Australia by the names of Darrell and Manch set off on an adventure to the other side of the world. They travelled to Africa and without air conditioning on their modified truck, they filled it with supplies, some beer, a bunch of aviator sunglasses, and...

Lots of wildlife. Fish and Turtles and Iguanas and Sharks and Tortugas and so much more. Our guide Carlos was phenomenal. Best English of any guides in Latin countries I have visited. Boat crew was very profesional and food was great.

Best way to experience the Galapagos Islands! They handled the transport from the lovely Quito hotel to the boat. With only 16 passengers we were able to travel to the hikes and snorkel sites on the two pangas. The crew made sure we were wearing life jackets, assisted with the provided lifejackets and snorkel gear, and got us safely in and out of the smaller boats. I felt so safe with our panga drivers carefully watching us when we snorkeled in currents. Often we had snacks awaiting us when we returned to the boat and the hot tub was amazing after a chilly swim. The food was fresh, yummy and plentiful. Great naturalist/guides with tons of knowledge and humor. Really enjoyed the tortoise excursions and time to explore the local communities. I was concerned about motion sickness and brought ginger, but never had an issue with it. Would also recommend extra days before or after to see the Equator site, historic Quito, Banos, and more.

Overall, it was great. The guide Johan and the crew were nice and helpful, paying attention to safety. The ship was clean. The hot tub could be a little hotter. The shower handle was marked wrong, pointing cold for hot water, though we figured out on the 2nd day (another passenger told me). Meals were pretty good, but snacks served at the deck when we return from a day trip were the most enjoyable. Coffee/tea cups were not enough - I would have taken a personal mug if told in advance. The last night/morning harbored at Puerto Ayora was very hard for us. The choppy water caused us motion sickness, and we felt swaying for a few days after the trip.

We enjoyed the trip very much. Too bad there was a change of guides in the middle of the tour. Roberto and Alexis were both very good but it is natural for a person to make comparisons. They are quit different people in their mannerisms and the way things present the information. We feel the star in the crew was Giovanni, our cabin steward. Always around to help. One day our wet swim suits disappeared only to return all nice and dry.
