Jeep & 4wd Tours & Trips
Ever wanted to reach places regular vehicles can't access? Jeep and 4WD tours mean off-road adventures, from desert tracks in Morocco or Jordan, mountain passes in the Alps or Himalayas, outback Australia, or Iceland's highlands. You're bouncing over rough terrain, crossing rivers, reaching remote landscapes. Could be self-drive or guided convoys, but the vehicle access opens up locations impossible otherwise.

In general I had a truly wonderful time and a memorable experience. I booked as a single traveller, and found myself in a variety of groups, sometimes with up to four others and sometimes on my own. My guides were trained, qualified and knowledgeable, and communicated in English well. The Hotels and cruises were friendly as well as luxurious. My only gripe was that in order to try to fit me in with groups, Golden Egypt, the Tour Operator in Egypt, changed my itinerary several times while I was on it, and for four days I was completely in the dark about what my itinerary was going to be. At one point I only discovered I was leaving early in the morning at 5:30 the previous night. It may be that I would have been better informed if I had access to WhatsApp, but I didn't. However I did have email, and communicated reasonably well before the four-day hiatus, so the worry of not knowing what was happening could have been avoided. At another point I had decided to visit Abu Simbel, and withdrawn the necessary cash to pay for it (since it was optional), only to find that the boat I was booked on at Aswan was full, and I had to change to another boat, which sailed immediately, so I lost my chance. It was a better boat, I was told, and I saved a lot of money by not going, so I probably ended better off, but I would have liked to go... Anyway, overall I had a great time, and will certainly consider TourEgypt next year, when I'm thinking of going to Greece! Best wishes, Hugh
Golden Egypt tour: 14 Day luxury (Cairo GEM & Alexandria & White desert & Nile cruise & Hurghada)Every day was, for us, a 'pinch me' moment as this was undoubtedly, the best holiday we have ever experienced! Sri Lanka is beautiful and so diverse. The itinerary was excellent (Discovery 12 day tour) and we were looked after by our guide Ishi: Nothing was too much trouble, he was fun to be around, an excellent driver on roads with the madness of tuk tuks, bikes and windy roads in the mountains and organised all our adventures and activities flawlessly. We experienced so much wildlife, both on safaris and during our road journeys. There was alot of driving on this tour but the activities on route to the next destination made it worthwhile. Hotels were excellent. Memories will last a lifetime from this tour and would highly recommend ASY. We hope to return!

What our customers ask about Jeep & 4wd Tours & Trips
What wildlife viewing opportunities are possible from 4x4 vehicles?
You'll get amazingly close to Africa's wildlife from a 4x4 safari vehicle. In the Serengeti, you can easily spot the Big Five - lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo. One TourRadar traveler noted: "The elevated position in the 4x4 gave us incredible views of a pride of lions just meters away." When you visit places like Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, the morning drives take you right into the heart of the action, where you can see over 25,000 animals including zebras, wildebeest, and hippos going about their daily life.
How many hours per day are typically spent in the 4x4 vehicle?
You'll usually spend between 4 to 8 hours a day in the vehicle, split into morning and afternoon drives. In Kruger National Park, for example, morning drives start at sunrise around 6am and last 3-4 hours. Then you'll head out again from 3:30-6:30pm for the afternoon session. One TourRadar traveler explained: "While we had long days in the vehicle tracking wildlife, our guide ensured regular stops at picturesque spots like those near Serengeti Sopa Lodge for stretching and photography."
What type of accommodations can I expect on a 4WD tour?
Your accommodation options range from nice lodges to permanent tented camps and wilderness camping. When you're in Tanzania's Serengeti, you can stay at places like the Batonka Guest Lodge with its swimming pools and big rooms. In Botswana, you might find yourself at unique spots like the Buffelsdrift Luxury Lodge where you can watch animals at nearby waterholes. As one TourRadar traveler put it: "The tent camping at Buffelsdrift game reserve was top notch - getting to fall asleep to the sounds of elephants nearby was incredible."
When is the best time to book a 4WD safari tour?
It really depends on where you're going. For East Africa safaris in Kenya and Tanzania, most people go from July to October to see the Great Migration, or January to February for the calving season. If you're heading to Botswana, plan for May through October when the skies are clear and animals gather near water sources. One TourRadar traveler shared: "We saw the wildebeest migration in September which was absolutely spectacular - timing is everything for these natural events."
What kind of meals are provided during 4WD safaris?
Most tours include all your meals, freshly prepared each day. In Botswana camps, you'll have three meals a day plus snacks, all made by skilled chefs. Some Kenya tours even let you try local dishes as part of the experience. Here's what one TourRadar traveler said: "The camp chef Francis was amazing - preparing incredible meals even in remote locations. We had everything from traditional African dishes to familiar western options."
What wildlife viewing experiences can I expect?
You'll have plenty of chances to see Africa's Big Five - lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo - plus lots of other animals. In Tanzania's Serengeti, you can watch the Great Migration, while Botswana's Chobe National Park is the place to see huge herds of elephants. One TourRadar traveler mentioned: "In just four days we saw all of the Big Five plus countless other animals in their natural habitat - truly incredible."
What's the best time of year for a 4WD tour?
The best time varies by location. For Southern Africa safaris, try the dry winter months from May to October, when animals gather around water sources. If you're going to Jordan's Wadi Rum, spring (March-May) or fall (September-November) are perfect with temperatures between 68-77°F (20-25°C). Just avoid summer when it can get really hot, over 104°F (40°C).
