What people love about Montenegro Tours
- 8 Days Montenegro Sailing Tour
Fantastic holiday, excellent crew, food and boat. Montenegro is a wonderful country! Highly recommended. Would love to repeat!
- Comfortable Heartland of Montenegro Trip
Montenegro is an underrated gem! The tour was perfect even though the weather wasn't at all times, but Borislav, our tour escort made sure we plan our day such that we make most of the sunny days as well as enjoy the rainy ones. The tour was well organized, well paced, communication was great and we were well taken care of at every step. We'd love to visit again someday cause 8 days isn't enough to explore this beautiful country!
- Comfortable Montenegro Discovery
Montenegro was a beautiful country and having a private guide was an awesome way to experience many parts of it. Bogdan was a calm and competent driver on the steep and winding roads, and shared restaurant recommendations and anecdotes about the country, as well as some laughs with us. We had the good fortune to accept an offer to switch our last two nights to Cetinje, a beautiful town that it was great to explore as it was very different from Budva, which we also very much enjoyed. There were too many beautiful parts of the tour to list and if anything, the agenda is overly ambitious, but we were able to discuss and scale back and make sure we still saw what we most wanted. The one thing I'd mention that was a surprise to us was how unbelievably crowded Kotor and the Ostrog Monastery were. All our other adventures were MUCH more relaxed.
Most popular destinations in Montenegro
Our travelers keep coming back amazed by Plitvice Lakes National Park's crystal-clear pools and waterfalls - it really sets the tone for what makes exploring the Adriatic so special. When you hop between the Dalmatian islands, you'll find Hvar's lovely vineyards and lively nightlife, while Korcula lets you trace Marco Polo's footsteps through medieval streets while tasting excellent local wines. For active types, Sipan Island offers fantastic kayaking spots and cliff jumping at the Green Cave, and cycling through Mljet National Park combines pristine nature with good exercise. The food here ties everything together beautifully - our guests particularly love the fresh seafood, traditional Dalmatian meat loaf and unique GRK white wines from the region. We've found April through June or September to October offer the best experience, with pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists around, making it easier to really connect with local life and traditions.

Travel Montenegro your way
For active explorers seeking Montenegro's diverse landscapes, several standout tours combine medieval towns with mountain adventures. Our most popular explorer route takes you through Kotor's twisting streets before hiking up to the fortress for sweeping bay views. You'll then head inland to swim in crystal-clear lakes within Durmitor National Park and stay in the mountain town of Žabljak. Travelers particularly love the sunset boat rides in the Bay of Kotor and the chance to visit the remarkable Ostrog Monastery, carved into a sheer cliff face. The routes include plenty of swimming spots and optional activities like mountain biking near Durmitor's pine forests or exploring Budva's vibrant nightlife scene.

Top operators in Montenegro
Based on our travelers' feedback, both 3e Travel and Nature Trips deliver quality experiences but in slightly different ways. 3e Travel has really nailed the basics - they handle the logistics smoothly and put people up in nice places. Our customers regularly mention two guides by name: Borislav and Dražen get lots of praise for how helpful they are with everything. Nature Trips takes a bit of a different approach, and their guide Nemanja seems to make everyone feel like part of the family. He knows the trails inside out and can tell you all about the history of each place you visit. It's that combination of deep local knowledge and personal touch that makes their tours stand out. The nice thing about both companies is that you're getting more than just a standard tour - you've got guides who really care about giving you a good experience. They each bring their own style, but they're both clearly doing something right based on what our customers tell us. Both operators excel in their own way: 3e Travel through their attention to detail and professional service, while Nature Trips creates this wonderful informal atmosphere while still delivering expert guidance. And it's worth noting that having guides consistently mentioned by name in reviews - like Borislav, Dražen and Nemanja - that's usually a really good sign.

"This was a combined trip/s from Berlin to Budapest and then Budapest to Spit so I had an experience with two different tour groups. The scenery and history is explained so well by our tour guide and learning more about the Serb/Bosnian war was invaluable. Auschwitch was cold, wet and raining and it depicted the conditions under which these people had to survive. Very moving day indeed for all. Budapest has such beautiful scenery and lovely icecream, cakes and chocolates! Spit is a walled city and I was there before the crowds which made it more comfortable for all.

"The Montenegro gulet cruise was beautiful, calm, and relaxing. The captain and boat crew provided excellent service. The chef and food were amazing! The rooms were cleaned everyday. It was not pleasant having to put the toilet paper in a trashcan but understood the need to do this on a boat. We were disappointed that the air conditioning was not used much for the rooms. It was difficult to sleep at night in a small room with no air conditioning. They should at least provide fans in the rooms. The gulet was spacious and allowed enough room for the 12 passengers. The communication about each day's itinerary could have been better. We had to ask each day where we were going and what the plan was. It was a shame the crew didn't attempt to put up the sails despite having enough wind on some days. It seemed that it would have been too much trouble for them, but it would have been nice for us to experience sailing. Overall, the trip was amazing with beautiful scenery in Montenegro. I would recommend this trip!

"My 7 days tour of Montenegro was superb. I was based in a 5 star hotel in Cetinje & it was a real pleasure to come back to my suite every afternoon having seen & experienced yet more highlights of this amazing country. My guide & driver, Bobo, was able to answer all my questions so I learned a great deal about the history & culture. I really appreciated his company.

Our week-long Montenegro tours offer two distinct styles. The first focuses on cultural immersion, starting in Kotor's UNESCO listed Old Town before heading to Perast for a boat trip to Our Lady of the Rocks island - our guests particularly praise the local guides who bring the maritime history alive. You'll then explore Cetinje, Montenegro's former royal capital, and watch the sunset where the Bojana River meets the sea at Ada Bojana. The second style takes a more active approach, combining hiking in Lovcen National Park with kayaking on Lake Skadar and rafting the Tara River. These tours include stays in family-run guesthouses where travelers consistently mention the warm hospitality and excellent home-cooked meals.

On our small group tours, solo travelers quickly find their tribe while discovering Montenegro's hidden corners. The sailing trips from Dubrovnik are a real hit - you share a yacht with new friends, find secret swimming spots near Herceg Novi and share meals with local families in Tivat. Our skippers get great feedback from solo guests who love their local insights and how they bring the group together. There's a nice balance of planned activities and free time to explore places like medieval Dubrovnik and Kotor independently.
Our sailing tours along Montenegro's coast work perfectly for couples - think sunsets from deck, swimming in private bays and chef-cooked dinners under starlit skies. Many couples go for our luxury gulet cruises to mix relaxation with exploring old towns like Perast and also Kotor. If you prefer staying on land, our heartland tours include wine tasting at family vineyards, evening boat rides on Lake Skadar and nights in boutique hotels in Cetinje, Montenegro's former royal capital. The mountain scenery from Lovcen National Park and the cliff-perched Ostrog Monastery add some real drama to the journey.
The younger crowd loves our active tours that combine outdoor challenges with evening social scenes. They'll hike up to Kotor Fortress for bay views, then join sunset boat tours for swimming and socializing. Most head to Durmitor National Park for mountain biking and hikes to Black Lake, later checking out Budva's buzzing nightlife. We've left enough free time to add optional activities - from canyoning in Nevidio Canyon to catamaran trips to the Blue Cave. Our younger travelers tell us they really like having both group activities and time to do their own thing.
Our discovery tours really work for senior travelers - they're comfortable but still show off all Montenegro's culture and landscapes. You stay in quality hotels and take daily trips to places like UNESCO-listed Kotor, traditional Perast and also Our Lady of the Rocks island. The tours include visits to prosciutto makers in Njegusi village and lunches at local spots overlooking Skadar Lake. Senior guests often mention how much they appreciate our guides' historical knowledge and flexibility with pacing. There's some light walking involved, but the focus stays on cultural experiences and scenic drives through Montenegro's mountain landscapes.
Our family adventures in Montenegro start in Tivat before heading up to Zabljak mountain resort. Kids really get into the e-bike rides through Durmitor National Park, spotting wildlife along the way. The Tara River rafting is special - it's actually Europe's deepest canyon, but our guides adjust everything based on ages and skill levels. Teenagers love trying out canyoning in Nevidio Canyon, while the younger ones have more fun kayaking on Lake Biogradska. We've built in plenty of swimming breaks, beach time and even optional zip-lining across Tara Canyon at 80km/h for the thrill-seekers. The guides mix up active fun with cultural bits, from wandering Kotor's cat-filled lanes to taking that incredible cable car ride down to the coast.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Autumn offers some of Montenegro's most rewarding hiking and cultural experiences. The comfortable temperatures are ideal for tackling trails like the climb to Bear Peak or walking the old Austro-Hungarian road from Muo to Prčanj. Our travelers particularly value the fall colors in Biogradska Gora National Park, one of Europe's last primeval rainforests. Cultural tours this season let you really connect with local life - from watching prosciutto making in Njegusi village to boat trips on Lake Skadar when migratory birds fill the skies. The crowds thin out at popular spots like Ostrog Monastery and around Kotor Bay, making autumn perfect for photography and unhurried exploration.
