What people love about Amalfi Coast Tours
- Rome, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast
Liked most of the tour. Local guide for coliseum didn't show, so much context was lost. Naples walking tour not very interesting- would have preferred time in the museum. Walk Of the Gods was very, very difficult. Only very fit people should attempt it. Hotels were fine. Was angry that we got no notification that the first hotel was changed to another. We showed up at the original and it took a while for them to figure out where we belonged. Guide was very helpful and patient. Locations were lovely.
- Local Living Italy—Amalfi Coast
Must be ready for some serious stair work. 135 just to start the day getting off the property. This is not for rookie hikers, but at the end of each day of trekking, we all felt pretty proud of our accomplishment. Tour must add/include transport back to Naples.
- 5 Day Naples including Sorrento, Amalfi, Capri Island, Pompeii & Vesuvius.
The STM team is excellent. They are flexible, very organized, constantly in contact with you via WhatsApp and best, they promptly respond. Impressed with their service. Once I booked, they promptly sent itinerary, hotel details, transfer info and daily tour details. Received details about driver pick up and then day before, each day, they AGAIN sent next day’s tour info including where to meet, tour company name so I did not have to look for details on my own. STM kept me organized and focused on enjoying my experience! I needed to cut my travel by one day. They gave me price for $100 less without asking and adjusted itinerary accordingly including pickup and drop off. Loved staying in one hotel for 3 nites. Felt rested. Loved that the 3 tours left from same place each day, 3 minutes walking distance. Hotel Vergilius Billia is excellent. Good breakfast. Excellent service overall. Capri tour operator organized. Good boat tour and ferry. Pompeii and Vesuvius tour same day tour was good also. Just take jacket for Vesuvius. Tour company Used headphones so could hear guide at Pompeii well. Tour for Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravelo was good with short time in each area to explore on own. Lot of usual traffic but seems compared to summer this was ‘light’. All 3 days were well organized and really worthwhile. Got a wonderful taste of area around Naples - fell in love with Capri, Positano etc and would love to come back. Thank you STM!
Travel Amalfi Coast your way
The Path of the Gods is where our walking tours really shine, and we base several 8-day trips in San Lazzaro, a village set 650 meters up where the temperatures stay cool and the views stretch for miles. Each day brings something different - you might find yourself exploring the Valle delle Ferriere nature reserve, where the unique climate helps rare plants grow, then the next day you're walking down old limestone steps toward Amalfi. Our travelers often mention how much they enjoy mixing challenging walks with cultural stops, like watching fresh mozzarella being made at local farms. The routes vary from easy 4.5km walks through lemon groves to more challenging 13km trails with some serious ups and downs. What our customers really appreciate are the quiet paths most tourists never find, especially those hidden trails above Positano that keep you away from the busy spots.

See all Coach / Bus toursOur explorer tours really get into the heart of the Amalfi region, starting with 5 days of private guided experiences. Many travelers tell us they love kicking off in Naples, where they get to taste proper local pizza before heading south to explore the Vesuvius area and its vineyards for some wine tasting. We've picked hotels along the coast that offer something special - quite a few have rooftop spaces where you can look out over the Bay of Naples. There's also a great tour that combines time at Pompeii's ancient sites with visits to small limoncello makers in Sorrento, where families still use traditional methods passed down through generations. Our local guides know all the quiet spots, especially on Capri and along the coastline where they can show you photography spots that most people walk right past.

Best places to start your Amalfi Coast tour
Most of our travelers start their Amalfi Coast trips from Rome - about 40 of them chose the capital as their jumping-off point. Naples isn't far behind with 33 travelers beginning there, while another 6 tours kick off from Sorrento. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your dates around 3.5 months ahead (that's 109 days), particularly if you're planning a summer visit when spots fill quickly. The smartest way to get around combines private transfers with local ferries - it gives you views and flexibility that our regular travelers really value. Sorrento works well as a home base since you can easily reach both the coastal towns and places like Pompeii. The local SITA buses save money but tend to get packed during busy hours, so catching early morning rides typically means more comfortable trips.
Discover Amalfi Coast tours for every budget
The 3-day tours from Rome hit the main spots without breaking the bank. You'll cruise down the 'Sun Route' highway, grab proper Neapolitan pizza and explore Pompeii's ancient streets with guides who know their history. Staying at 4-star hotels in Sorrento gives you a solid base, and the included dinners let you try local dishes without extra costs. The Blue Grotto visits can be hit-or-miss due to weather, but when it works out, our customers love it. While some note you could piece together similar stops independently for less money, having transport and entrance fees bundled makes life easier. It works especially well for first-timers who want some structure but also free time to wander through Sorrento's lemon groves and local shops.

From our base in San Lazzaro, set at 650 meters up, you'll find walks ranging from gentle 4.5km strolls through fragrant lemon groves to full 13km coastal trails that test your legs. TourRadar customers often mention guides like Marco Marotta, Matteo and also Renato who share fascinating local insights, especially on combined hiking-kayaking days where you paddle to secluded coves and walk paths most tourists never see. The food experiences get hands-on at family farms, where you'll make mozzarella and traditional pasta, while our 5-day tours from Naples include wine tastings at vineyards near Vesuvius. Though the Path of the Gods appears in many itineraries, our guides know exactly when to visit to avoid the busiest times. Winter brings peaceful walks through Pompeii, spring covers coastal paths in wildflowers and autumn brings grape harvest season. Many guests tell us that staying in family agriturismos with just 11 rooms adds a personal touch, while the mix of private transfers and local ferries gives you both comfort and an authentic taste of coastal life.

Our clients love starting in Naples with street food walks through Spaccanapoli, then taking their time at Pompeii with archaeologist guides who adjust the commentary to your interests. From your Sorrento base, experienced drivers handle those winding coastal roads while you take in the scenery. Many guests tell us about wonderful afternoons at family wineries near Vesuvius, enjoying five-course lunches paired with local wines. Want extra time photographing Positano or visiting a traditional limoncello maker? The guides adapt easily. Having private transport proves especially useful when moving between towns with luggage, avoiding the packed local buses entirely.
Top Amalfi Coast travel itineraries to fit your plans
Our 3-day tours from Rome or Naples hit the main highlights quickly and efficiently. You'll get solid archaeological insights at Pompeii from local guides who know every corner of the ancient streets. Most travelers base themselves at Sorrento hotels like the Vesuvio, which has great food and a pool with prime Bay of Naples views. The Capri day trip usually includes the Blue Grotto, though sea conditions can be tricky - our guides always have backup plans ready. Many guests tell us the limoncello tastings in Sorrento's old town end up being an unexpected high point of their short stay.
See all toursWeek-long tours let you settle into the local rhythm properly. You'll get hands-on at family farms, picking fresh ingredients before learning traditional pasta-making techniques. Our travelers love how the days flow - maybe exploring Positano's steep streets in the morning, then catching the sunset from a quiet Ravello terrace. Some tours keep one home base in Sorrento, while others move between different coastal spots. The Naples portion includes a really interesting migrant-led walking tour that shows the city's hidden sides, plus visits to small lemon farms where families still make limoncello the traditional way.
See all toursTen days gives you time to venture from coastal Sorrento all the way to inland Matera. You'll start with deep dives into Sorrento's food culture - think local cheese, olive oil and wine tastings with experts who know their stuff. Private guides at Pompeii share stories that bring the ruins to life, and you'll see how Capri and Anacapri each have their own distinct feel. The relaxed pace means free days to browse Positano's shops or just watch local life from a cafe. The journey to Matera shows you a totally different Italy, where local guides walk you through the fascinating cave homes called Sassi.

Solo travelers connect well on our 4-day budget tours, which bring together 8-17 like-minded explorers - just the right size to make friends while keeping things personal. Starting in Naples, you'll visit Pompeii before heading to shared rooms in Sorrento with Vesuvius views. Our travelers often mention the social vibe during group dinners and evening swims at ancient Roman pools. The guides plan evening activities but leave plenty of free time too. You can join group trips to Capri or wander through Sorrento's quiet lemon groves and side streets at your own speed.
Our private tours for couples start in Naples with personal guides who lead food tours through the winding Spaccanapoli district before moving on to Sorrento. The wine tastings near Vesuvius are a highlight - you'll get five courses paired with local wines at family estates. Private drivers know all the best photo spots along the coast and when to give couples space in places like Positano and Ravello. Many couples tell us they love taking evening boat rides around Capri, seeing the rocky coastline in the golden light after the day crowds head home.
The 7-day active tours appeal to young adults, mixing coastal kayaking with solid hiking challenges. From Naples, you'll explore Pompeii's ruins and tackle the Path of the Gods trail to Positano. There's time built in for beach visits, cooking classes and Capri boat trips between guided activities. Our travelers in their 20s and 30s really like staying in Minori - it's just 15 minutes from Amalfi but feels much more local. They mention how well the tours balance physical activity, historical sites and social time.
Our walking tours based in San Lazzaro at 650 meters work well for senior travelers, keeping temperatures pleasant year-round. The walks range from easy 4.5km strolls through lemon groves to moderate 13km trails, and guides adjust the pace as needed. Travelers appreciate having two different airport transfer times and staying in cozy family agriturismos with just 11 rooms. The days mix cultural activities like mozzarella-making demos and cooking classes with gentle walks. Our guests often mention how useful the provided walking poles are, and how the guides choose perfect scenic spots for breaks.
Our Positano-based family tours mix sightseeing with activities that keep kids interested and active. Children really get into the pizza-making classes where they receive certificates, plus they love watching fresh mozzarella come together at local cheese factories. The Walk of the Gods trail works well for families - our guides know exactly where to stop for picnics with Capri views in the distance. Many of our families choose to stay in Bomerano's family-run hotels, where owners get the kids involved in cooking demos and organize impromptu football matches while parents take some time to relax. Our guides adjust their style nicely between age groups, managing teenage energy and younger kids' attention spans during Pompeii visits and Vesuvius climbs.

Autumn brings out the best in our food tours, right when grape and olive harvests are happening. Lots of travelers choose walking tours that mix moderate hikes with seasonal activities - one day you're picking lemons for limoncello, the next you're learning traditional pasta making. Private tours take advantage of quiet trails to Ravello's gardens and include long lunches at hillside vineyards. With the sea staying warm through October and summer crowds gone, our combined hiking and kayaking tours become particularly good value. For private tours that go beyond the usual tourist spots, Soleto Travel's guides Gabriella and Mariano consistently receive high marks from TourRadar customers. These local experts adapt the schedule to your interests and handle all the logistics - from picking you up at your hotel to timing visits when places are less crowded. If you prefer organized tours but still want quality time at each stop, Carrani Tours runs a nice option called "Beautiful Amalfi Coast" that includes an interesting deep-dive into local lemon cultivation. Our travelers especially like the selected hotels and the hands-on experience learning about limoncello production. For those who want to get active, there's a combined hiking and kayaking tour that lets you see the coast from totally different angles. The guides Marco Marotta, Matteo and also Renato know exactly where to take you - like hidden coves you can only reach by water and walking paths above the usual tourist routes. They share lots of local knowledge about the geology, flora and culture while keeping the pace comfortable for different fitness levels. What makes this tour an adventure is paddling through sea caves, swimming in secluded spots and hiking paths that most visitors never see. The combination of land and water activities gives you a really complete perspective of how the dramatic coastline was formed and how local communities have adapted to living on these steep slopes over centuries.

+1 844 311 8331What our customers ask about Amalfi Coast Tours & Trips
What's the best way to get around the Amalfi Coast towns?
Getting around the Amalfi Coast can be a bit tricky with those winding mountain roads. You've got SITA buses running between towns pretty regularly but they do get packed especially in summer - like our travelers found out on the "Walking the Amalfi Coast" tour where that 40-minute ride from Amalfi to Bomerano was quite an adventure! Ferries are really nice if you want those amazing views especially going between Sorrento Amalfi and Positano though schedules change with the seasons. If you want things easier and don't mind spending more private drivers are your best bet - just ask David who loved having a private van on their Naples and Amalfi Coast tour.
Which hidden spots should I check out on the Amalfi Coast?
While everyone heads to Positano Amalfi and Ravello you might want to discover some quieter places like Atrani Praiano and Maiori. Atrani's this lovely little village right next to Amalfi where you can really feel that authentic Italian coastal life without the crowds. Praiano's got these incredible views and amazing food while Maiori gives you the coast's biggest beach with a more laid-back feel. One of our travelers on the "Highlights of Sorrento Capri and Amalfi Coast Private Tour" really loved how peaceful Maiori was compared to the busier spots.
Where can I find natural beauty away from the tourist spots?
The Amalfi Coast's got some incredible natural spots if you know where to look. The "Path of the Gods" is this amazing hiking trail between Bomerano and Positano with views that'll take your breath away - our TourRadar travelers on both the "Hike & Kayak" and "Highlights" tours couldn't stop talking about it. There's this special place called "Valle delle Ferriere" nature reserve where you'll find waterfalls and unique plants growing in their own little microclimate. Taking a boat tour shows you hidden beaches and caves you just can't see from land giving you a whole different perspective.
What local foods should I definitely try?
The food here is something else! You've got to try "Scialatielli" this thick pasta with medieval roots that's especially good in Minori - our "Enchanting Southern Italy" tour guests loved it. Don't miss "Delizia al limone" in Sorrento it's this amazing lemon sponge cake that's just perfect after dinner. "Sfogliatella" is everywhere and once you try this shell-shaped pastry filled with ricotta you'll see why. The seafood's incredible super fresh and local and if you're lucky you might get to experience what our travelers did on the "Highlights" tour - a five-course lunch with wine pairings at a vineyard right on Mount Vesuvius.
