What people love about Northern India Tours
- Mountains & Mystics of India (including New Delhi)
Wonderful two weeks in Northern India. Saw so much stuff and it was very exciting.
- Mountains & Mystics of India (including New Delhi)
I enjoyed this tour my fifth time back to India. Very different from other parts of India quite picturesque. We had a great group, we all hit it off from the start so that always makes a difference. The accommodation was good but some hotels were a bit dowdy, no hot water and slow or no WiFi, having said that it was not generally the rule But overall it was a good trip and I would certainly recommend it. This was my first trip to India, and I was fairly nervous despite being a regular traveler - I just didn't know what to expect. I landed in Delhi alone, a solo female traveller, and I was overwhelmed by the people and traffic. But as soon as I joined my group, all of my anxieties disappeared and I began to be captivated by a country and people for the next two weeks that will leave me longing to go back again and again. Our trip leader was all class - an incredible ambassador for his country and company. And the trip itself was an extraordinary experience up in the far north of India, where we say scenery that was totally unexpected - alpine vistas and winding mountain roads - it blew my mind. The food was next-level delicious. Every person I met along the way was friendly, warm and generous - and everyone wants you to fall in love with India, so they really go out of your way to make sure you experience the best hospitality and generosity. I would, and have, recommended this trip to my friends and family, and a couple have already booked to visit next year!

Explore a wide diversity of safari tours through Northern India. We have 20 adventures that vary from 3 days to 20 days. With the greatest number of departures in January, this is also the most popular time of the year.
See all Safari toursThe Northern India treks range from laid-back Ladakh paths to properly challenging Karakoram routes that'll test your limits. Ladakh's 7-day treks wind through Nangma Valley, where you'll see thousand-year-old paintings at Alchi Monastery and ride double-humped camels in Nubra Valley. For those wanting more of a challenge, the 10-day Karakoram trek has you camping in Mingulo Broq's willow groves and meeting local shepherd families. Our trekkers often tell us the highlights are watching Balti musicians perform at camp and trying the regional dishes our trek cooks prepare. We've carefully planned these routes to include proper time for adjusting to the altitude, which is especially important around Pangong Lake at 4,400 meters.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursTiger safaris in Jim Corbett National Park are consistently popular with our guests, and for good reason. The naturalist guides run early morning and afternoon jeep safaris - they've spent years studying tiger patterns which really helps spot these amazing Royal Bengal Tigers. Up in Ladakh, you can combine monastery visits with proper high-altitude hiking, including crossing Khardung La pass at 5,602 meters before heading down into the Nubra Valley. Over in the Solang Valley near Manali, you can try paragliding with views of snow-covered peaks, glaciers and deep valleys. Our travelers often mention how much they appreciate our drivers; they know exactly how to handle mountain roads safely while making time for photo stops at orchards, temples and scenic points along the route.
See all Active toursOur most popular Himalayan routes blend Shimla and Manali over 6-7 days, giving you a real mix of what Northern India has to offer. You'll walk through the snowy landscapes of Kufri, check out the ancient Hadimba temple and get active in Solang Valley with some proper mountain sports. Our travelers tell us they love how smoothly everything runs - from the hotel setups to having experienced drivers who know these mountain roads inside out. Winter trips head up to Rohtang Pass for snow activities, while summer routes focus on meadow walks and exploring the valleys. The local guides are a huge plus - they know exactly when to take you to spots like Mall Road so you avoid the crowds and get the clearest views.

Top operators in Northern India
From what our travelers tell us, three tour operators really stand out for their India trips. Fragrance of Taj gets consistent positive feedback for running smooth operations - their drivers are professional, hotels comfortable and the guides know their stuff. The communication is clear throughout which helps everything run smoothly. MTA Destinations has built a solid reputation with our customers who appreciate how well-organized their tours are. Their drivers are known for being courteous and the daily sightseeing is thoughtfully planned to make the most of each location. When it comes to Swastik India Journeys, travelers particularly love their choice of high-end hotels and how professional their drivers are. Their guides really know their material and also understand what makes a good tour experience - their Agra guide especially gets mentioned for making the visits fun and helping everyone get great photos of their time at the monuments. What connects all three companies is their attention to the fundamentals that make tours work well - reliable transport, quality accommodation, knowledgeable guides and good organization. The consistent positive feedback from people who've actually taken these tours suggests you'd be in good hands with any of these operators.

Best places to start your Northern India tour
Most of our Northern India journeys begin in New Delhi - about 48 travelers chose it as their starting point last season. Another 16 people kicked off from Islamabad, while 12 headed straight to Leh to get into the Himalayan landscapes. Our booking patterns show that securing your spot around 78 days ahead (that's about two and a half months) makes sense, especially since the nicest hotels tend to fill up during peak season. The heritage palace hotels in Rajasthan are a real highlight - they give you a genuine taste of royal Indian living - and many guests combine their cultural touring with stops at national parks to see wildlife. Having one of our local guides along really makes a difference; they help make sense of the rich history and also make it easier to navigate local customs and traditions.
Discover Northern India tours for every budget
Northern India has some really good budget-friendly routes that our travelers love. The Holi Celebration tour combines the Golden Triangle with the festivities in Mathura - you'll play with colors during the festival and get to see the Taj Mahal as the sun comes up. If you're interested in wildlife and mountains, there's a great value trip through Nainital and Corbett where you can spot tigers on safari and explore three lakes tucked into the hills. Over in Mussoorie, the tours take you up to Lal Tibba for the best views in town, plus visits to Municipal Gardens and cooling off at Kempty Falls. Our customers often tell us how much they appreciate the local guides who make each place come alive with their knowledge and stories.
The luxury experiences in Northern India focus on exceptional details and carefully chosen accommodation. You can stay in heritage hotels while exploring Kashmir and Ladakh, take private boat rides on Dal Lake and sleep in upscale camps next to the turquoise waters of Pangong Lake. Another premium route combines spiritual experiences in Rishikesh and Haridwar with elegant stays near Amritstar's Golden Temple. The guides arrange special moments like joining morning prayers with local priests and exclusive cooking lessons in heritage homes. What really makes these tours special is seeing the Taj Mahal twice - at dawn and dusk - when the light is perfect and the crowds are thin.

Our quick 3-day Northern India tours focus on two distinct paths: the Delhi-Agra-Taj route and wildlife watching in Corbett National Park. In Delhi-Agra, you'll ride rickshaws through Chandni Chowk's lanes, visit Jama Masjid and explore both Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. Our travelers love how we time the Taj Mahal visit for sunrise - that's when the marble picks up those soft pink and golden colors. Over in Corbett, it's all about the wildlife - morning and afternoon jeep safaris with naturalists who know the best spots for Royal Bengal Tigers, plus visits to Corbett Falls and the Dhangarhi Museum between drives. What makes these short trips work? It's our drivers who know every shortcut and guides handling all the daily details.

See all toursThe week-long mountain tours link Shimla and Manali with smart route planning. You'll explore Shimla's Mall Road and Jakhoo Hill first, then head to Kufri Valley for local experiences. Moving on to Kullu Valley, you can check out traditional apple orchards and try paragliding in Solang Valley if you're feeling adventurous. Our guests like how we mix active days with cultural visits - you might be up at Rohtang Pass one day (weather allowing) and exploring the quiet Hadimba Temple or relaxing in Vashisht's hot springs the next. We've planned the route to give proper time in each place while making sure you adjust to the altitude comfortably.

The Mountains & Mystics of India tour really clicks with solo travelers - they tell us how much they love the balance of cultural experiences and time in the Himalayas. Many mention starting out nervous about traveling India alone but feeling right at home thanks to our local guides who handle all the day-to-day details. Tiger spotting in Jim Corbett National Park with expert trackers is another solid choice, while the Varanasi tour lets you experience early morning boat rides on the Ganges and explore ancient Buddhist ruins at Sarnath. Our guides are great at helping first-timers navigate busy streets and local customs, which makes such a difference when you're exploring solo.
Our couples love how the Golden Triangle tour with Rishikesh add-on mixes romantic Taj Mahal evenings with quiet moments by the Ganges in India's yoga hub. The 12-day Himachal Pradesh route works really well for pairs who want to discover things together - you'll stay in converted palace hotels and drive through gorgeous mountain passes. The morning toy train in Shimla is always a highlight, and watching the border ceremony at Wagah gets lots of praise. If you're short on time, our 3-day Delhi-Agra tour includes two visits to the Taj Mahal at sunrise and sunset, with guides who know exactly when to dodge the crowds for perfect photos.
The Shimla-Manali combo tours are big with young travelers looking for real adventures - you can try paragliding in Solang Valley and hike through the snowy paths of Kufri. The 6-day trip gives you time for winter sports at Rohtang Pass and temple visits, plus free evenings to enjoy Old Manali's buzzing vibe. Young adults also gravitate toward our Kumbh Mela experience where you'll camp near the festival grounds, join evening kirtans and really dive into spiritual India. These tours mix active outdoor time with genuine cultural experiences, which is exactly what younger travelers tell us they're after.
For our senior travelers, the 3-day Golden Triangle tour hits the sweet spot with its comfortable pace, dedicated drivers and expert guides at each location. They often mention how smooth everything runs, from airport pickup to hotel check-in. Adding Varanasi works well too - we time the boat rides and temple visits for cooler morning hours. The guides are great at adjusting the pace when needed and keeping an eye on all the small details. Active seniors also enjoy our Leh-Ladakh tours, where we build in proper time to adjust to the altitude and set up comfortable camps at Pangong Lake.

Winter really shows off Northern India's mountain destinations, especially in Shimla and Manali. Our travelers love playing in the snow at Kufri which sits up at 2,500 meters with its clean white landscapes. You can go skiing and zorbing in Solang Valley, and when conditions allow, the Rohtang Pass routes give you proper Himalayan snow experiences. The spiritual tours to Varanasi and Kumbh Mela take on a special feel in winter - morning boat rides drift through mist on the Ganges, and the evening ceremonies feel almost magical in the cool air.
