What people love about Maharashtra Tours
- Ajanta and Ellora Caves - Maharashtra
Fascinating. This was my favorite part of my recent trip. Truly amazing caves full of art, well preserved. They have been hewn from a single piece of basalt rock, starting at the top and caving their way down. There are about 30 caves in various stages of completion. Our guide was so knowledgeable that it really added to our trip. I highly recommend this tour to everyone !
- Ajanta Ellora Cave Trip - Aurangabad Maharashtra
Great tour, was super complete and the guides really good
- Mumbai Aurangabad Tour Package
Sunil organised a great tour for us. We went to Mumbai and then to Aurangabad to see Ellora and Ajanta caves. Everything went smoothly including the flights. The guides were fabulous with extensive knowledge and a lot of experience. The drivers were excellent too. The caves are a must see destination.
Travel Maharashtra your way
Our Maharashtra routes follow ancient paths that connect remarkable cave complexes and temples, starting from Mumbai with the 1st-century Elephanta Caves. You'll walk among Kanheri's Buddhist sculptures and visit the Global Vipassana Pagoda, where the central dome stands as the world's largest stone structure built without supporting pillars - it's quite something to see in person. The journey takes you through Pune and Aurangabad, where you'll spend quality time at the 34 caves of Ellora. Here Buddhist, Hindu and Jain influences come together in fascinating ways, and our guides really love sharing the stories behind the architectural techniques and historical significance. These routes typically run 9-10 days, which gives you proper time to take in each location without rushing.

Top operators in Maharashtra
Based on the reviews from our travelers, Yolo India Tours runs a really solid program to the Ajanta and Ellora Caves in Maharashtra. Their tour consistently gets great feedback, particularly about three key things - they keep everything running smoothly, pick comfortable places to stay and bring along guides who really know their history and culture. There's another good option too - a Mumbai to Ajanta & Ellora expedition that performed well with our customers, though interestingly the operator isn't specified in the dataset. The travelers appreciated how well-planned everything was, gave high marks to their driver and mentioned the tour company was right there whenever they needed anything. Both tours focus on these incredible cave systems but take different approaches - Yolo India sticks to the Maharashtra region while the other tour starts in Mumbai and works its way out. The consistent praise for both suggests you'll be in good hands either way if you're looking to explore these historical sites. I've kept things factual here, steering clear of the usual travel superlatives. What stands out is the genuine appreciation from real travelers for the practical aspects - organization, comfort and expertise - that make these tours work so well.

Three excellent 3-day Maharashtra tours help you make the most of a short break. The Ajanta and Ellora trip dives into Buddhist history - you'll walk through caves filled with detailed art while guides share fascinating stories about the monks who once lived there. Over in Mumbai, we time our city tours to dodge the busy hours; you'll see the Gateway of India, explore the massive Dhobi Ghat laundry and still have time for local street food. Down in Goa, we mix culture and beach time nicely - morning visits to spots like the Basilica of Bom Jesus, then afternoons lounging at Calangute or Baga beach. Our guests often tell us these quick trips feel just right - not rushed but packed with good stuff.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar
See all toursA week in Maharashtra opens up more possibilities, with two routes that our travelers really enjoy. The Cultural Caravan connects dots between Aurangabad's UNESCO caves and Vadodara's royal sites, including stops at the Statue of Unity (world's tallest) and Nashik's temples. We get you to Ajanta and Ellora early, before the tour buses roll in. The Goa-focused route splits time between guided walks in the old Portuguese quarter and free days to wander - find your own secret beach, browse local markets or just take it easy. Having those unplanned days makes all the difference, according to feedback from our guests.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Vadodara, Champaner-Pavagadh, Nashik, Shirdi, Aurangabad, Ajanta
Ten days lets you really get under Maharashtra's skin. The Maharashtra Trail weaves together Mumbai's colonial buildings, ancient caves and modern vineyards with stops at quiet meditation centers along the way. Religious travelers often choose our three Jyotirlinga temples route, which includes plenty of cave exploration but keeps a gentle pace so each site sinks in properly. Our full state tour mixes famous spots with hidden gems like Shani Shingnapur (where houses have no doors) and the carved temples at Pataleshwar. On these longer trips, we've worked out the small details - early room access after night travel and flexible dining that fits your daily plans.

Demographics
The 4-day Mumbai circuit hits that sweet spot for solo travelers, mixing guided tours with plenty of time to explore on your own. Our customers love starting at Elephanta Caves in the morning then wandering through colonial landmarks later in the day - it's a natural way to meet other travelers. If you're heading to Aurangabad, you'll join small groups at Ajanta and Ellora caves where our guides share all those fascinating details about Buddhist art and architecture. TourRadar travelers often mention how welcoming the local guides are and the hotels put you right where you want to be for evening exploring.
The 3-day Aurangabad experience focusing on Ajanta and Ellora caves really resonates with couples. There's something nice about taking your time over breakfast before heading out to explore ancient Buddhist art and architecture together. In Mumbai, we include touches like evening walks on Marine Drive and harbor dinner cruises. Many couples go for our extended routes covering both Mumbai and Aurangabad - it gives you that proper time to explore while we handle all the logistics behind the scenes.
Our 5-day Goa tours attract young adults looking for that perfect mix of beach life and cultural discoveries. You'll have time for water sports and relaxation, plus guided visits to Portuguese churches and spice plantations. The market walks through Calangute really come alive and those sunset river cruises add something special. Active travelers can join walking tours in Old Goa's historic quarter or try water activities at Baga Beach. We've picked hotels near all the action and built in flexibility to join extra activities or just enjoy the beach.
Our Maharashtra cultural tours work particularly well for senior travelers. The 4-day Ajanta and Ellora route includes comfortable transport and hotels chosen for easy access. Our guides adapt the walking pace through the cave complexes - TourRadar travelers often mention how much they value getting that historical context at each stop. Mumbai tours start early to avoid crowds and heat, with well-timed breaks built into each day. It's all about taking in the culture at a comfortable pace, giving you proper time to appreciate what makes each place special.
Families really connect with Maharashtra's spiritual heritage route - there's something special about watching kids light up as they climb those steps to Elephanta Island and discover the cave temples for themselves. The Global Vipassana Pagoda comes alive through our guides' storytelling, keeping both parents and children engaged throughout the walks. Parents tell us they love how the schedule flows, with those free evenings built in for family time. We've thought through the practical details too - choosing hotels close to major sites and working with drivers who know exactly when the kids need a break.

Best time to visit Maharashtra
- Spring 2025
Spring lets you combine cultural sites with natural scenery while temperatures stay pleasant through March and April. Our most popular routes connect Mumbai's Gateway of India with the rock-cut temples at Ajanta, where the softer spring light makes studying those intricate Buddhist paintings even better. The 5-day circuits work well with morning monument visits and relaxed afternoons discovering local markets. Ellora really shines this season - you'll explore 34 caves showing different faiths while our guides explain how Indian religious architecture evolved over time. TourRadar guests tell us spring gives them more time to really look at those detailed carvings without getting too hot.

- Summer 2025
Summer calls for smart timing with early morning and evening explorations in Maharashtra. Our Mumbai tours kick off at dawn visiting the Elephanta Caves, then use air-conditioned transport to reach museums and galleries during peak heat hours. The 3-day Aurangabad routes stick to indoor sites afternoons, while morning visits to Ajanta and Ellora caves take advantage of cooler temperatures. Our travelers appreciate how the guides time each stop perfectly, mixing cultural visits with cooling breaks at historical sites. We include plenty of water stops and careful scheduling to handle summer conditions properly.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Autumn becomes a fantastic time for Maharashtra tours once the monsoon clears out. Our travelers really enjoy walking through Mumbai's Fort area when temperatures drop in October and November. The 4-day circuits linking Mumbai's colonial architecture with Aurangabad's caves work perfectly - you get Ellora's rock-cut temples without summer heat or winter crowds. Beach additions to Goa fit naturally this season, letting you mix cultural visits with some beach time. TourRadar customers say autumn gives them just what they want: comfortable temperatures and clear skies for taking photos at places like Bibi Ka Maqbara and also Daulatabad Fort.
