What people love about Tibet Tours
- Glimpses of Nepal and Tibet Tour 14 Days
Mate, me Nepal Tibet Tour was a ripper experience, I tell ya! From havin' a gander at the bloody lively cities of Kathmandu and Lhasa, to layin' eyes on the sheer beauty of the Himalayan mountains and the peace and quiet of the Tibetan plateau, every minute was fair dinkum magical. The tour guides were full of knowledge and always ready to lend a hand, and the places we stayed were comfy as and squeaky clean. I reckon this tour is an absolute corker for anyone keen on fully immersin' themselves in the bloody rich culture and history of Nepal and Tibet. Give it a burl, I reckon!

I highly recommend Peregrine Treks and Tours to anyone thinking about this incredible adventure.
- Overland Tibet with EBC Tour 8 days
We did the Kathmandu-Lhasa Overland Tibet tour along with Everest Base Camp for 8 days. We drove from Kathmandu to the Tibet border Karung, North Everest base camp, Shigatse and Lhasa. These places were so beautiful that made me never want to leave. I will always keep this tour and experience on my mind. Everything was coordinated perfectly. Our guide Dambar spoke perfect English so communication was very smooth and Effortless. Thank you Adventure Himalayan Travels and treks for providing us with necessary things to make this tour an extraordinary experience.
Travel Tibet your way
Our 8-day Tibet adventures from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp work really well for most travelers. Starting at Lhasa's 3,650m gives you time to adjust before heading higher, with great stops at Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier on the way to Shigatse. The longer 15-day western Tibet routes let you explore some fascinating places - there's the old Guge Kingdom ruins and the deep cuts of Sutlej Canyon. Our travelers often mention how much they enjoy discovering the Buddhist caves at Kyhunglung and visiting villages that still practice the ancient Bon faith. For focused mountain experiences, we time the visits to catch the sunrise over Everest from Rongbuk Monastery at 5,150m - it's worth getting up early for those views.
See all Active toursOur best-selling Tibet tours combine cultural depth with remarkable mountain landscapes. The Lhasa to Kathmandu route takes 7 days, starting among ancient monasteries before crossing high Himalayan passes. Our travelers tell us that watching the sun rise over Everest from the north base camp offers a completely different feel compared to Nepal's side. For those wanting to go further, the 15-day Mount Kailash journey explores western Tibet's lesser-visited corners. What works well is how these routes mix the must-see spots like Potala Palace with real local moments - you might find yourself sharing butter tea with monks at Drepung or joining early morning pilgrims circling Barkhor Street.

Great Tibet Tour and Adventure Himalayan Travels and Treks both get solid feedback from our travelers exploring Tibet and the Himalayas, though they each have their own strengths. At Great Tibet Tour, guides Dajie and Lobsang really shine - our customers consistently mention how well they explain Tibetan Buddhism and local traditions. They take time with questions and make sure everyone's comfortable with the altitude changes and daily schedule. Adventure Himalayan's guides Lakpa and Dambar are known for their excellent English and keeping tours running smoothly. The company does good work organizing complex multi-day treks, but we've had a few travelers mention confusion about visa paperwork. It's worth double-checking all the entry requirements with them early in your planning. We see both companies handle the cultural and physical aspects of Himalayan travel well. Great Tibet Tour might have a slight edge for those focused on Tibetan culture and Buddhist sites, while Adventure Himalayan excels at the trekking logistics, routes and technical aspects of mountain tours. One practical note - altitude adjustment is part of any Himalayan journey, and both companies build in proper acclimatization days. Their guides are experienced at monitoring travelers and adjusting the pace when needed.

In Lhasa, participants will explore significant sites like the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and various monasteries, experiencing the rich culture and spiritual life of Tibet. Finally, the tour wraps up with a return drive from Shegar to Kathmandu, creating a memorable adventure through diverse and breathtaking scenery.

"Attempted to book the Forbidden Lhasa and Everest Base Camp tour with Adventure Himalayan Travels. Caveat emptor (buyer beware): You cannot enter Lhasa by air without using a China gateway city (Chengdu). You cannot enter Lhasa without a Tibet permit. To get a Tibet permit you must spend five days in Nepal and then fly to Chengdu and then to Lhasa. The PRC will not issue a China visa if you book travel to Tibet unless your tour operator has already obtained a Tibet permit. The tour operator does not disclose any of this in their brochure and you can be stuck with large expense.

Top Tibet travel itineraries to fit your plans
The week-long route from Lhasa to Kathmandu really shows Tibet at its finest. We start at Lhasa's spiritual heart - exploring Jokhang Temple and Potala Palace before heading into more remote areas. You'll cross several high passes over 5000m with clear views reaching to Everest and the Himalayan range. What makes these tours work so well is how they blend cultural experiences and photography moments - you might find yourself watching monk debates at Sera Monastery one day and catching the Everest sunrise the next. Our travelers consistently mention how well our guides handle both the practical side of altitude adjustment and share rich details about each monastery, village and cultural site along the way.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Lhasa, Gyantse, Shigatse
The 10-day journeys add valuable time around Lhasa and venture north to Lake Namtso. There's space to properly explore Potala Palace's thousand rooms and join local pilgrims circling Barkhor Street market without feeling rushed. Our guests particularly enjoy having enough time at Tashilumpo Monastery and Shigatse's local markets. The route to Lake Namtso crosses through nomad grasslands where yaks graze beneath snow peaks, and that first view of turquoise waters against Tibet's clear mountain light tends to leave quite an impression. The longer duration helps with altitude adjustment and lets you experience morning prayers, festival moments and quiet times in monastery courtyards.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Kathmandu, Tingri, Lhatse, Shigatse, Gyantse, Lhasa, Xegar
Two weeks in Tibet reveals its complete character. Some routes focus on sacred Mount Kailash, timing visits with Saga Dawa when thousands gather to celebrate Buddha's enlightenment. Others combine Tibet's main sites with China's key locations - starting at the Great Wall in Beijing, moving to Xi'an's Terracotta Warriors and working with pandas in Chengdu before crossing to Lhasa. Our travelers often tell us how these longer trips let them experience both the major sites and small details: sharing butter tea with locals, watching paper cutting artists work and finding themselves amid monk debates at Sera Monastery. You'll really grasp Tibet's role in the broader cultural landscape with this extended time.

The local guides make all the difference here, creating real chances to connect with local culture - you might learn to make momos with a Lhasa family or share butter tea with monks at Drepung Monastery.
Our Lhasa to Everest Base Camp routes get fantastic feedback from couples looking to share something special together. These 9-14 day journeys start with quiet walks through old Lhasa before heading into Tibet's mountain country. Our travelers tell us they love those shared moments - catching sunrise together at Everest's north base camp, taking photos by the bright blue Yamdrok Lake and exploring monastery halls filled with incense smoke. It's that mix of culture and mountain scenery that really works - one day you're walking with pilgrims around Tashilhunpo Monastery, the next you're looking out at Himalayan peaks from Gawula Pass.

You'll cross several 5,000-meter passes, visit remote monasteries and stay in local guesthouses along the way. Summer opens up Tibet's harder-to-reach areas, and our longer 14-day Nepal-Tibet combined tours run from June through August. These trips balance cultural visits with time outdoors, and our guides know exactly when local festivals are happening - they'll often adjust the schedule so you can join in monastery celebrations. The Lhasa tours include early morning visits to Drepung Monastery and afternoon sessions watching the monk debates at Sera. - Fall / Autumn 2025
Fall's perfect for overland journeys across Tibet, with tours running 8 to 14 days and crossing multiple high mountain passes. The autumn skies make for exceptional mountain photos, especially around Everest Base Camp - our customers mention this constantly. Several routes combine Shigatse market visits with nights in traditional guesthouses, giving you a real feel for life on the plateau. Tours to Namtso Lake get great feedback in autumn - there's a good chance you'll see pilgrims making their yearly walks around this sacred water. The Lhasa to Kathmandu journeys work really well with fall's stable weather and comfortable temperatures for monastery visits along the route.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Tibet brings a special kind of quiet, with fewer visitors around the main sites. Our 8-day Lhasa tours let you explore Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple at your own pace, without the usual summer lines. The Kathmandu routes keep running through winter and we provide oxygen supplies to help with the altitude. It's quite something to watch the monk debates at Sera Monastery with snow falling in the courtyards - our travelers often mention this as a highlight. The Everest Base Camp trips run all year and while it gets cold in winter, our guides make sure everyone comes prepared with detailed packing lists.
