What people love about Ghana Tours
- Thrills in Ghana
I booked my trip to Ghana with Protour Africa because of the positive reviews I read. This gave me the confidence that I would enjoy the tour and be taken care of as a female solo traveller. I booked the Thrills in Ghana package as it was a good mix of city life, nature, history, relaxation and culture. I'm pleased to say that this tour far exceeded my expectations and this has been the best trip I've taken so far. First of all the communication from the minute I booked was efficient and Zainab was able to answer all of my questions (and I had loads). When I arrived in Ghana after 2 long flights she was there to pick me up and make sure I was settled at my hotel. The tour itself was insightful and gave me an authentic glimpse into different parts of Ghana and Ghanaian culture - my particular favourites were visiting Mr Cedi's Bead Factory and Kakum National Park. As well as accompanying me on all parts of the tour, Zainab even made time for me to add additional items to the itinerary. Zainab, I can't thank you enough for making my trip to Ghana amazing! It was an absolute pleasure meeting both you and Rashida. If you are visiting Ghana, make sure to book your trip with ProTour because you'll have an amazing and authentic experience.

My son and I spent a week in Ghana in February 23 and had a fabulous time with the ProTour team. They were all extremely professional and enthusiastic. We did several trips during our stay, all very well organised and an abundance of information. Their air conditioned cars were very comfortable and the driver and guide were always punctual when picking us up from the hotel. Communication was very easy and Rashida was always available throughout our stay.

This tour was a splendid and an Emotional experience. Both castles came with so much Emotional history. Everyone who can should take this tour and also share this beautiful experience.
Travel Ghana your way
Ghana's active tours blend wildlife encounters with authentic cultural experiences that really get you involved. The highlight is exploring Northern Ghana's Mole National Park, where you'll join guides on foot to track elephants and buffalo through the wilderness. Our travelers love starting their mornings with a game drive and then switching to peaceful canoe safaris along the Mole River - it's a great way to spot the park's hundreds of bird species from a different angle. Down by the coast, you can explore Lake Volta, which happens to be Africa's largest artificial lake. The boat rides take you past hidden islands where local communities share their traditional gin-making processes. For something truly hands-on, we've got special access to the Cedi Bead Factory workshops where you'll work alongside artisans turning recycled glass into cultural beadwork. Our guides Zainab and Rashida get fantastic feedback from customers who appreciate their deep local knowledge and genuine connections with communities. These tours run between 6 and 12 days, giving you time to experience both the energy of Accra and also the slower pace of rural Ghana. What makes these adventures special is how they combine active wildlife tracking, hands-on crafting and real cultural exchange with local communities.

Top operators in Ghana
ProTour Africa and Continent Tours stand out as the top choices for Ghana tours, based on what our travelers tell us. ProTour's guides Zainab and Rashida really shine - they know their history inside out and share genuine stories about local life, markets, traditions and also customs. You'll notice the difference in how they handle everything, from market visits to village stays. For those looking to trace their roots, Continent Tours has built quite a reputation. Tour manager Tina Ross takes time to craft routes that connect with your family history, while guide Matina Kuma brings real depth to each stop with her local connections and cultural knowledge. They're particularly good at arranging meaningful encounters in communities where your ancestors may have lived. Both companies handle the practical details well - transportation runs smoothly, accommodations are properly vetted and the pacing works for most travelers. What sets them apart is how they weave Ghana's story into every day of your trip, from the colonial history in Cape Coast to modern life in Accra and also the traditions in northern villages. Our travelers often mention how these aren't just standard sightseeing tours - you'll sit with local families, learn to cook traditional dishes, visit markets with the guides who know all the vendors and understand the deeper context of places you visit.

"We had an excellent guide, David. We saw many animals including elephants and enjoyed a wide range of activities from a canoe ride and visit to the eco village to visiting the oldest Mosque in Ghana and a very modern art complex. Everything was well organised and both David and the safari guide, Abdul, were extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. The lodge is basic but comfortable with great views and food.

Best places to start your Ghana tour
Most people kick off their Ghana journey from Accra - about 47 out of 52 travelers start there. While you can begin from Cotonou, Tamale, Cape Coast and also Dakar, these aren't as common. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your spot around 85 days ahead, especially if you're hoping to travel with well-known guides like Zainab or Rashida who lead many popular trips. Two weeks seems to be the magic number for really getting to know Ghana properly, from Accra's buzzing markets to quiet coastal spots. It's interesting to see how many of our travelers prefer staying in local guesthouses rather than standard hotels - they say it helps them connect better with communities and get more out of the cultural experience.

Independent travelers fit right in on our cultural immersion tours, where our guide Rashida helps everyone feel part of the group while maintaining their independence. The Cedi Bead Factory is usually a highlight; children spend time crafting their own beads from recycled glass while picking up traditional craft skills. Spring offers ideal conditions to explore northern Ghana. At Mole National Park, you can join safari tours to spot elephants, warthogs and also antelopes both on walking trails and vehicle routes while temperatures stay moderate. Mountain trails in the Volta Region really shine now, with clear visibility from Mount Gemi and pleasant hiking weather for reaching Wli Waterfalls.
