What people love about Malta Tours
- Malta and Gozo Discovery
Our overall tour was excellent. We had a wonderful tour leader in Elizabeth Cutajar (Lisa), and the itinerary was nicely varied and well thought out. The weakest part of the tour were the two hotels, the Calypso in Gozo and the Argento in St. Julian, but I realize that they were probably good value for the money.
- Malta and Gozo Discovery
Would have preferred to do Gozo at the end of the trip and Malta first. Did not like the area of St Julian where the hotel was. Elizabeth Cutajar was amazing!
- Malta and Gozo Discovery
Malta was Amazing. Lisa is a passionate, experienced and knowledgeable guide. Overall the tour was a wonderful experience.
Travel Malta your way
Want to get under Malta's skin? Our explorer tours dig deep into the islands' story, running 8 days across Malta and Gozo. You'll walk the grounds of Ggantija temples, which stood here before the Egyptian pyramids rose from the desert. What our clients really connect with are the farm visits - they get hands-on with traditional farming and taste local specialties like sun-dried tomatoes paired with Maltese wines. The route takes in Valletta's Upper Barrakka Gardens for those classic harbor views and weaves through the Three Cities where the Knights of St John made their first home. Every time we run these tours, people tell us how much they loved wandering the medieval lanes of Vittoriosa.

Based on the reviews, Explore and Soleto Travel both excel in different ways when it comes to Malta tours. Our travelers consistently praise Explore's guides - Maria in particular stands out for really bringing Maltese culture to life during her tours. The itineraries are solid and well-thought-out, though some folks mention wanting a bit more free time to explore on their own. If you're looking for a more personalized experience, Soleto Travel specializes in private tours that let you set the pace. Their guides Silvia DeBono and Dennis get lots of positive feedback for going above and beyond. The company handles all the details smoothly - from comfortable transfers to upscale hotels and resorts. It's ideal if you want a higher-end experience without having to worry about the logistics. Really, your choice comes down to travel style and budget. Explore works well if you enjoy group tours and want an expert-led introduction to Malta's highlights. "We customized this tour, doing a 6-day tour from Palermo to Catania and then a week in Malta, combining two tours in a private way. Both the Sicily tour and the week in Malta were wonderful. The tour guide in Sicily who took us around Palermo and to Monreal was very knowledgeable, especially in the Cathedral. The guide who took us through the Greek temples was also super interesting and personable. The driver, Francesco, who took us to the Roman house spoke very good English and took time to point out a lot of things we would have missed otherwise. All of the hotels in Sicily were nice but the one in Agrigento was really special.I am glad we skipped the wine tasting the day of Mt. Etna and Taormina because we wouldn't have been able to see much of Taomina otherwise. Sicily is so big you can't see everything in a week but I think your tour does a great job of hitting the highlights. It was great. The tour in Malta was even better. Malta is a fascinating place but what made it really great was having Charmaine as our tour guide. She did a really exceptional job of explaining and showing her country to us. She is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun to be with. She really took care of us. I wish she could be my guide on every trip I take. I really like staying in Sliema for two nights and then two nights in Valletta to get two different perspectives of the city. The hotel in Gozo was delightful. I am telling everyone I know to go to Malta and get Charmaine as their tour guide

Top Malta travel itineraries to fit your plans
Our 7-day Malta tours give you that perfect mix of guided exploration and free time to really sink into island life. The most popular route starts in Valletta before heading to Mdina, where our travelers love walking the lamp-lit streets that earned this former capital its nickname as the 'Silent City'. Several tours include a day at the Blue Grotto caves - we usually suggest going early when the morning light makes the water glow an electric blue. What works well about these week-long trips is how they balance cultural sites like St John's Co-Cathedral with outdoor experiences around Gozo's salt pans and coastal trails. A lot of our customers opt for tours that include Marsaxlokk, especially on Sundays when the waterfront fills with market stalls and those bright blue and yellow fishing boats called luzzus bob in the harbor. The tours typically spend time in both Malta and Gozo, with some great spots like Ta' Pinu Sanctuary and Xlendi Bay which our guests particularly enjoy. One of our most successful itineraries includes a food tasting day where you'll try Maltese ftira and local wines at family-run vineyards. For those who prefer more independence, our self-drive options let you explore at your own pace while still having a structured itinerary to follow. These tours include stays in St Julian's or Sliema areas, giving you easy access to restaurants and shops in the evenings. What makes these work so well is the flexibility - you can linger at spots like the Dingli Cliffs or spend extra time exploring Victoria's Citadella in Gozo when something really catches your interest.

Solo travelers give top ratings to our discovery tours, which mix cultural experiences with independent exploration time. Most tours run 6-8 days from Valletta where you can explore the limestone streets and stop at local cafes for real Maltese coffee whenever you like. We include guided walks through the Three Cities and Mdina's quiet lanes, plus you can choose to visit Gozo Island for swimming in tucked-away coves. Our solo guests tell us they love how the tour balances group activities with free time, and many say the local guides are great at suggesting authentic restaurants and peaceful spots that tourists usually miss.
Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find plenty to love in our private Malta tours. These intimate experiences let you explore at your own rhythm, from sunrise walks along Marsaxlokk's colorful harbor to sunset cruises around the Blue Grotto's glowing caverns. Many of our couples stay in boutique hotels in central Valletta, making day trips to Gozo's ancient temples and quiet beaches. The tours adapt to what you enjoy - some couples spend more time at family vineyards tasting wine, while others prefer exploring medieval villages and also swimming in clear blue bays. Our travelers often mention how much they appreciate the private guides adjusting the pace and focus to match their interests.
Young adult travelers go for our active discovery tours that combine cultural sites with outdoor activities. You'll hike Gozo's dramatic coastline, swim in hidden inlets and explore ancient temples. We mix guided history walks through Valletta's narrow streets with time to find local wine bars and restaurants on your own. Many tours take you to the Xwejni Salt Pans to see traditional salt harvesting, followed by swims in peaceful Mediterranean coves. Our younger guests tell us they really like having both structured activities and also free time to explore.
Our senior travelers appreciate tours that cover Malta's highlights at a comfortable pace. We base these tours in Sliema or St. Julian's, making daily trips to places like St. John's Co-Cathedral and medieval Mdina. There are regular rest stops and manageable walking distances, plus you can skip any activities that feel too demanding. Senior guests often tell us how much they enjoy the guides who make Malta's history come alive, and many say visiting local producers to try traditional foods and wines was a highlight. The tours include harbor cruises and coastal drives, giving you relaxing ways to see Malta's lovely landscapes.

Best time to visit Malta
- Spring 2025
Spring tours in Malta focus heavily on nature and walking experiences, taking advantage of mild temperatures and wildflowers in bloom. Multi-day walking tours on Gozo are especially popular in April and May, when Mediterranean shearwaters nest along the dramatic cliffs near Sannat. Our travelers particularly enjoy hiking the salt pans along the north coast and exploring hidden coves like Mgarr ix-Xini. Cultural tours during spring include visits to the Ggantija temples and walks through Victoria's medieval streets. Farm visits are a highlight this time of year - you'll see greenhouses in full production and learn about traditional farming methods from families who've worked the land for generations.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
The weather's just right for our most active Malta tours in autumn, and you can really mix up cultural visits with outdoor activities. Our September and October travelers tell us they love swimming at Ramla Bay and hiking coastal paths without the summer heat. You'll get to see the Blue Grotto's glowing caverns, watch the fishing boats at colorful Marsaxlokk port and explore Mdina's quiet streets and St Paul's Catacombs without the crowds. Just so you know - there's a Maltese bird hunting season from September through January, so you might notice some hunting activity during country walks in Gozo and Malta.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter adds something special to Malta's cultural tours that run 8-11 days from December through February. Our Christmas and New Year's trips really shine, mixing Three Cities exploration with local holiday traditions. The winter light makes for excellent photos when you're walking Vittoriosa's waterfront or taking harbor cruises to Sliema. You'll get St John's Co-Cathedral and Upper Barrakka Gardens almost to yourself - quite different from the busy summer months. Many of our guests love hearing about Mosta's domed church, where a WWII bomb crashed through but never exploded - it's quite a story. We've planned plenty of indoor activities too, like wine tastings and craft village visits, which work perfectly when winter brings the occasional rain.
