Travel Oman your way
Our active tours pack real cultural experiences into 3-5 days of outdoor exploration, starting in Muscat before heading into the wild. You'll cool off in the blue waters of Bimmah Sinkhole then trek through the rocky paths of Wadi Shab. The nights get interesting - you'll sleep in Bedouin camps after some serious 4x4 driving over massive dunes, then wake up to see the sunrise paint the endless sand. We take you to places like Al Hamra, where 400-year-old mud brick houses still stand and local families show you their traditional crafts. Our travelers often tell us the best part comes at Nizwa, wandering through old souks and fortresses and taking sunset walks in green palm groves.
See all Active toursOur explorer journeys through Oman blend the country's most fascinating places into carefully designed 8-day routes. You'll walk the old quarters of Nizwa and mix with locals at their Friday market before discovering the detailed craftwork inside 17th-century Jabrin Castle. The nights in Wahiba Sands are something special - our travelers often tell us how much they love sitting around the campfire after watching the sun drop behind the dunes. The coastal section takes you to Sur's traditional dhow builders and then to Ras Al Jinz, where you can quietly observe green turtles laying their eggs - it's one of those genuine wildlife moments that stay with you. There's also time for cooling swims in Wadi Bani Khalid's natural pools and walks through ancient date palm groves, giving you a real sense of Oman's diverse landscapes and culture.

Top operators in Oman
Both MTA and GidOman have built solid reputations as reliable tour operators in Oman, with our travelers consistently sharing positive experiences. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque appears frequently in their stories, along with visits to the ancient forts of Nizwa, Bahla and also Sur by the coast. What really stands out in traveler feedback is how personal these tours feel, thanks to guides like Yousuf, Ilyas, Adam, Jamal and also Aziz. They're often mentioned by name in reviews for going beyond the usual tourist routes. One customer wrote about how Yousuf took a detour to show them a hidden corner of Wadi Shab that most visitors miss. The itineraries blend well-known sites with local experiences - you might find yourself swimming in crystal-clear wadis in the morning, exploring a 17th-century fort by afternoon and camping under the stars in Wahiba Sands by night. Our travelers particularly value how these companies handle the logistics while leaving room for spontaneous stops and authentic interactions with local communities. The accommodations get good marks too - they're comfortable without being overly luxurious, which fits well with Oman's natural character. Several customers mentioned appreciating how the guides share genuine insights about Omani culture, traditions and also daily life, rather than just reciting historical facts.

"This tour was even better than expected, thanks to our great guide, Sayeed! The tour itself gave us a wonderful overview of Oman's beauty but it was Sayeed who made it so outstanding. His personal touch made us feel so welcome & comfortable, the time flew by. A fantastic & fun experience. The vehicle was really comfortable & Sayeed is an expert driver. The ride in the canyon & along the steep mountain road the last 2 days were amazing. We'd highly recommend it.

Best places to start your Oman tour
Muscat serves as the natural starting point for most Oman explorations, with 74 of our tours kicking off from this cultural hub and main entry point. Some specialized trips begin in southern Salalah or link up with Dubai for a wider Gulf experience. Looking to join? Book around 73 days ahead, particularly from October through March when mild weather makes desert exploration really pleasant. Those cooler months bring comfortable 25°C (77°F) days - perfect for mixing cultural visits with dips in wadis and mountain trails. Summer gets quite hot, but it opens up opportunities for early morning coastal wildlife spotting and some excellent deals on upscale hotels. Our photographers love capturing the dramatic mountain scenes at Jebel Shams and the bustling ancient markets of Nizwa throughout the year.
Discover Oman tours for every budget
Oman offers solid value tours that pack the country's best into 7-8 days, running from Muscat through to Wahiba Sands. The real adventure happens up in Jebel Shams, where you'll trek along deep canyon walls that drop away dramatically - locals actually call this Oman's Grand Canyon. Our customers love sleeping under impossibly clear desert skies and waking up to mountain views. The routes include cooling swims at Bimmah sinkhole and visits to traditional villages like Misfat Al Abriyeen, where stone houses seem to grow right out of the mountainside. Many tours include nights with Bedouin families, joining them for traditional coffee ceremonies in the desert. Our recent travelers particularly mentioned the quality lunch boxes at Wadi Shab and liked how the itineraries mix cultural visits with natural exploration.
High-end Oman journeys center around exceptional stays at The Chedi Muscat and Six Senses Zighy Bay, typically running 10 days to let you properly experience each spot. Up in the Green Mountains, guests at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort often tell us about watching the sun rise over misty canyons from their private terraces. The journeys include private dhow trips around the Daymaniyat Islands, where you can snorkel in pristine reefs far from the crowds. What makes these tours special are the intimate local connections - like cooking alongside Sidab women in their homes and visiting mountain villages to see traditional rose water being made, with special access most visitors don't get.

The guides know hidden spots, like quiet wadis and lesser-known corners of Mutrah Souq, plus they're great at arranging spontaneous visits with local families for coffee and dates.

Our 8-day Muscat tours really hit the mark for solo travelers, giving you a good balance of guided activities and free time to explore. You can wander through the winding paths of Mutrah Souq or join others for a sunset dhow cruise when the mood strikes. The group dinners are particularly social, and there's nothing quite like sharing stories around the campfire in Wahiba Sands. You'll walk through ancient villages, cool off in clear wadis and spend nights watching turtles nest at Ras al Jinz. Recent guests tell us they love how our guides create an easy-going atmosphere while sharing deep knowledge about Omani culture and daily life.
Our 6-7 day Oman tours give couples plenty of memorable moments together. There's something special about having a secluded pool in Wadi Bani Khalid mostly to yourself, watching the late sun turn the desert golden and exploring quiet mountain villages at your own pace. Many couples tell us they really enjoy mixing active exploration with cultural experiences - like cooking with local families or seeing traditional dhow builders at work in Sur. The desert camps offer private tents with proper beds, and early mornings in the dunes are perfect for photography. Our guides have a good sense of when to share insights and when to step back, letting you take in the experiences together.
Our 5-day tours attract younger travelers who want real physical challenges mixed with cultural discoveries. You'll properly earn your rest with wadi hikes, cave swimming and dune climbing in Wahiba Sands. The tours mix up high-energy activities like 4x4 dune bashing with cultural moments, sitting down for coffee in Bedouin camps. Recent travelers in their 20s and 30s say they love how the days flow - maybe a morning hike followed by exploring ancient forts and local markets. The pace keeps moving but leaves time for sunset moments in the desert and cooling dips in mountain pools.
Our 6-8 day tours work well for senior travelers, combining good hotels with genuine cultural experiences. You'll see all the major sites - the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Nizwa's fort and also ancient villages - but at a comfortable pace with plenty of time at each stop. Our older guests often mention appreciating the small touches, like proper seating for desert dinners and routes that avoid difficult terrain. The guides are really good at adapting activities for different mobility levels while making sure everyone gets to properly experience Omani culture, from the traditional souqs and also the mountain communities.
