What people love about Senegal Tours
- Senegal Highlights 8 Days / 7 Nights
This was a lovely trip, off the beaten track, seeing some of the highlights of Senegal. A really interesting eye opener as I really did not know what to expect. My tour guide and driver were really lovely and looked after me (I was the only person on the trip). I loved the variety in places I stayed from a standard hotel to desert tent to cute resort hut to a more refined beach resort. There are very long drives to get from one place to another so that is something you need to be prepared for, more time driving than at the sights, however I saw a lot of real life in several Senegalese towns from the car. The national dish of thieboudienne did not make its way on tourist restaurant menus, but after saying how much I wanted to try it, my tour driver took me to a place to try it on my final day...it was worth the wait :). This trip has a lot of spare time in the evenings so plenty of time to rest ahead of the next day. We usually set off soon after breakfast, between 8am and 9ish..so sociable times and on most days I was dropped off at my accommodation at around 5ish. So a big thank you to Dioudiou the driver and my tour guide Mr Jang (I think that was his name, we got introduced after I got off the plane and I didnt double check!) for their wonderful hospitality, it felt like having my own little family abroad.
- Authentic Cultural Experience of Senegal, 6 Days
We did the Senegal cultural tour. Our guides were Ali and Ibrahim. They were both excellent, kind, and attentive. They were the reason our experience was fantastic. They catered to our needs all along the way. Thank you Ali and Ibrahim.
- The Best of Senegal – 8 Days
Its was the first time I took a private tour and loved it! Our guide Abou made all our wishes happen, we had a smooth ride and a lot of fun. Sénégal was a great destination to visit, people are nice, weather was fantastic and there is much to visit.
What our customers ask about Senegal Tours & Trips
What Are the Best Places to Visit?
There's so much to see here starting with Goree Island it's a UNESCO site that really brings the slave trade history to life. Dakar's this incredible mix of energy with these amazing markets colonial buildings and you can't miss the African Renaissance Monument it's actually taller than the Statue of Liberty at 164 feet. Saint Louis is something special too another UNESCO site where French and African cultures blend beautifully with these colorful houses and carved balconies and there's this fantastic fishing village called Guet Ndar. Nature lovers should definitely head to Djoudj National Bird Park it's incredible with up to 10000 different bird species including flamingos and pelicans. Then there's Fathala Wildlife Reserve where you can see giraffes rhinos and even walk with lions which is pretty amazing.
What's the Best Way to Get Around?
You've got these Sept-Places which are shared taxis that fit seven people they'll get you between cities though comfort's a bit hit or miss. Bush taxis usually these old Peugeot 504 wagons give you more of a local experience. You can rent a car but honestly the roads need experienced handling. Most people find having a private driver works best our travelers really loved exploring with their guide Abou it just makes everything so much smoother.
What Should I Know About Local Culture?
The country's mainly Muslim about 95% of people so dressing modestly really helps especially if you're visiting religious places like the Grand Mosque in Touba it's one of West Africa's largest. Greetings are super important here take time to shake hands ask how people are doing. There's this wonderful community spirit where sharing food and having good conversations are just part of daily life.
Which Unique Experiences Shouldn't I Miss?
You've got to spend a night in the Lompoul Desert under the stars and try a camel ride across the dunes. Pink Lake's really interesting with its salt harvesting though heads up the pink color varies depending when you visit. The Sine Saloum Delta's mangroves are beautiful for bird watching and you can visit Sipo Island with its fascinating history of a 70-year female chief. The markets Kermel and Sandaga are fantastic for local crafts and food. For something really special head to the Bedik villages in the southeast where ancient traditions are still alive and well our tours actually take you right into these communities to learn about their customs firsthand.
