What people love about Austria, Germany And Switzerland Tours
- Christmas Markets of Austria, Germany and Switzerland (8 Days)
Good itinerary and eight days just right.
- Alpine Christmas Markets (Classic, 9 Days)
First let me say that the tour director, Meagan Chandler was terrific, first-rate, excellent. The driver, Joseph, was also excellent. Accommodations were good and it was nice not to have had only one night in any location. The tour company provided breakfasts each morning and they were lovely buffets. The Tour Director also gave us daily treats that added to the fun The included dinners were good and highlighted the culture of the area. This, however, was a Christmas Market tour and there was often only 2 to 3 hours to spend at the market site. When you had to figure in taking the time to get lunch, as wurst and other market food every day isn't healthy and can get boring, there was often only an hour or a bit more to wander the markets. The buses have to park quite a distance from the city center, the local tour guides, while good, were lengthy, and there were lots of tourists competing for dining space. The itinerary needs some tweeking. The tour company should provide simplified maps with street names of major streets clearly legible of each city that identified the market areas. There was not enough time to just wander the streets of the town and visit the Christmas markets.
- From Prague to Zurich (7 destinations)
Overall is good. The tour guide shd have more knowledge. The bus shd be better and wifi available during long voyages. Time given for us to shop is limited.

The Prague to Zurich route works perfectly for solo travelers - you'll join others to explore Prague Castle, take a Vltava River cruise and discover Munich's old town together. Starting in Vienna is another great choice, where you can mix with fellow travelers in traditional beer halls and city walks. Our solo guests often mention how much they like having the border crossings taken care of while still getting free time to explore Lucerne, Innsbruck and other stops at their own speed.
Couples tend to pick our French-Swiss combination tours, starting with Paris moments like the Eiffel Tower ascent and Seine river cruise before heading into the Alps. The private carriage rides through Austria, shared fondue in mountain restaurants and walks across Lucerne's Chapel Bridge create perfect moments together. Most couples go for the tour including Strasbourg - it offers quiet medieval town exploring and wine tasting sessions in Alsace.
Active travelers in their 20s and 30s usually choose routes like our Prague-Zurich tour, which mixes hiking Grindelwald's suspension bridges and exploring Swarovski's crystal gardens with Europe's best city scenes. The Berlin-south route is another favorite, combining history sites and modern culture as you head through Dresden and Prague. Our guides know all the good spots - from Munich and Zurich's best nightlife to perfect Alpine photo locations for social media.
Our winter tours really work well for senior travelers who appreciate the relaxed pace and comfortable coaches. The included dinners are always a hit, especially in Munich's beer halls and up on Switzerland's Stanserhorn mountain. Local guides get great feedback for sharing European history and culture while keeping everyone comfortable throughout the journey.
Families really connect with our Alpine routes, especially the Christmas Markets tour. Kids get excited watching Munich's Glockenspiel and trying Lebkuchen cookies at Vienna's Christkindlmarkt. What are the most efficient ways to travel between Austria, Germany, and Switzerland?
Trains are definitely your best option for getting around these countries - the rail networks are incredibly well-connected with frequent high-speed services running between major cities. The Eurail Pass gives you lots of flexibility to hop between countries and explore at your own pace. For something really special, take the Glacier Express through the Swiss Alps from St. Moritz to Zermatt — the views are absolutely stunning. If you're looking for a more leisurely way to travel, river cruises along the Rhine let you stop at charming towns and vineyards like on the "Christmastime from Basel to Vienna" route.
What are some locally recognized cultural practices visitors can participate in, and where do they typically take place?
Head to the village of Habkern Switzerland where you can actually learn to make your own alphorn and try yodeling during the "Discover Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria" tour between Bern and Innsbruck. Over in Innsbruck Austria you've got to catch one of the traditional Tyrolean folklore shows — local musical families put on amazing performances that really showcase the culture. For a truly authentic German experience visit Munich's famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall or time your trip for Oktoberfest the world's biggest beer festival that takes over the city each September and October.
What locally recognized regional specialties should I try, and where are they commonly served?
You'll find Austria's famous Wiener Schnitzel — a perfectly crispy breaded veal cutlet — in traditional restaurants all across the country. Switzerland is all about the cheese: grab some fondue where you dip bread into a communal pot of melted cheese or try raclette where they scrape melted cheese right onto potatoes and veggies like they do on the "From Prague to Zurich" tour. Don't miss Salzburg's sweet soufflé called Salzburger Nockerl. In Germany every region has its own take on bratwurst served with sauerkraut and mustard — best enjoyed in a beer garden. The "10-Days Cheese & Alps Euro Rail Trail" includes a great Bavarian Beer and Food Evening in Munich.
Which officially designated natural areas exist outside major urban centers, and what are the primary methods of accessing them?
Switzerland's Aare Gorge is pretty incredible — this limestone gorge carved by the river has great footpaths and bridges for exploring. Take the cable car up to Glacier 3000 for amazing Alpine views featured in the "Switzerland's Best" tour. Germany's Black Forest is perfect for hiking and cycling with extensive trails like those on the "Christmastime from Basel to Vienna" river cruise. The Austrian Lake District has gorgeous mountain-ringed lakes you can explore on the "Summer 5-Country Alpine Tour in a Porsche." Most of these spots are easy to reach by train bus or rental car.
Which lesser-known or regional routes are documented for traveling around Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, and what are the recognized reasons travelers prefer them?
The Gerlos Alpine Road in Austria takes you through beautiful alpine meadows with spectacular views — it's actually featured in the "Summer 5-Country Alpine Tour in a Porsche." Germany's Romantic Road connects medieval towns and castles and you can experience it on the "10-Days Cheese & Alps Euro Rail Trail." The Grossglockner High Alpine Road crosses Austria's highest paved mountain pass while Switzerland's Entlebuch region a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve shows up in the "Fall/Spring 5-Country Alpine Tour." TourRadar travelers say they love these routes because they're more relaxed and let you really discover authentic villages and local culture off the typical tourist path.
