What people love about Colombia Tours in January
- Contrasts of Colombia
The tour leader was excellent and so was the itinerary. We didn’t like the excursion on the yacht because it was very loud although we enjoyed dancing. Didn’t love the hotel in Ste Martha which was a huge white room. We would recommend you provide water every day as it is necessary, inexpensive and would make things more comfortable. We were pickpocketed on day 1 before the tour started in the evening. I would emphasize the danger of pickpockets in your written notes. This happened between arrival and the welcome dinner. I also think the food could have been better. There were only 2 places with really good food, montmartre being one of them. It is important to have a good food experience when travelling. Many meals were disappointing and sometimes inedible. Otherwise we had a very good experience.
- Colombia Express
An excellent tour which included places we would never have dreamed of visiting ourselves, but it was not a ‘9-day’ one!
- Colombia Uncovered
Book this trip. Quit thinking about it and book it. This trip blew my expectations out of the water right from the get go. Everything you want from a Latin America tour. Amazing night life to some of the best food I’ve ever had. I felt completely safe from day one.
What our customers ask about Colombia Tours in January 2026
How is the weather in Colombia's different regions during January?
Colombia's varied regions each offer distinct weather patterns in January. Bogota sees clear skies with temperatures around 20°C (68°F), making it comfortable to walk through the historic streets. Along the Caribbean coast Cartagena and Santa Marta reach 30°C (86°F) with very little rain. The Coffee Region maintains mild temperatures from 18-25°C (64-77°F) with brief afternoon rain showers common in areas like Armenia and Salento. As noted by a TourRadar traveler: "The January weather was perfect for hiking in Cocora Valley and exploring the coffee farms - not too hot and hardly any rain."
What are the most popular destinations to visit in Colombia during January?
The dry season draws visitors to several key Colombian locations. Cartagena's 16th-century walled city comes alive with street musicians and outdoor cafes. The Coffee Triangle reveals its full charm with clear views of the Andes and ideal conditions for farm visits. Medellín's temperate climate makes January an excellent time to explore its transformative public spaces. As a TourRadar reviewer shared: "The combination of Cartagena's coastal charm and the Coffee Region's mountain landscapes in January was magical." Key lodging options include Hotel Diez in Medellín and Hotel Armeria Real in Cartagena.
What are the best beach destinations to visit in Colombia during January?
The Caribbean coast shines in January with blue skies and calm waters. Tayrona National Park's Cabo San Juan beach offers a natural escape while Cartagena's Bocagrande presents a more urban seaside experience. The beach towns of Taganga and Palomino provide quieter alternatives for travelers. A TourRadar reviewer shared: "The January conditions at Tayrona's beaches were perfect - clear waters and sunny skies made for incredible swimming and snorkeling." Hotel Placita Vieja in Santa Marta serves as a convenient base for beach exploration.
What special events and festivals can I experience in Colombia during January?
January brings vibrant cultural celebrations throughout Colombia. The Festival de Negros y Blancos fills streets with music and traditional performances. Near Tayrona National Park local indigenous communities welcome visitors while the Coffee Region showcases its agricultural heritage. Cartagena's Hay Festival draws literary enthusiasts from around the world. One TourRadar traveler shared: "The January festivals gave us amazing insights into Colombian traditions especially in Cartagena where we stayed at the historic Hotel Armeria Real right in the center of the action."
How far in advance should I book a Colombia trip for January?
January's popularity means booking 4-6 months ahead particularly for sought-after accommodations like Hotel BOG in Bogota or Hotel Armeria Real in Cartagena. Multi-day experiences such as the 14-day Colombia tour often reach capacity well in advance. A TourRadar traveler noted: "We booked our January tour six months ahead and were glad we did - many hotels and popular tours were fully booked closer to the date."
What are the best outdoor activities to do in Colombia during January?
The dry season creates ideal conditions for outdoor exploration. Tayrona National Park offers well-marked hiking trails while beaches near Taganga welcome swimmers and snorkelers. The Cocora Valley presents clear views of its iconic wax palms and coffee farms around Armenia open their doors to visitors. A TourRadar reviewer mentioned: "We had incredible visibility hiking through Cocora Valley in January - the famous wax palms looked spectacular against the blue skies." Hotel Estrella del Monte in Armenia and Hotel Placita Vieja in Santa Marta provide convenient access to these activities.
Is January considered high season in Colombia and how does this affect prices?
January brings peak season rates especially in coastal destinations like Cartagena and Santa Marta. Expect to pay 20-30% more at popular hotels such as Hotel BOG in Bogota or Hotel Armeria Real in Cartagena. Daily tour costs range from 156 USD to 511 USD. However as one TourRadar traveler noted: "Despite being high season January offered great value - the perfect weather and festive atmosphere made it worth the premium."
