What people love about Senegal Tours
- Authentic Cultural Experience of Senegal, 6 Days
We did the Senegal cultural tour. Our guides were Ali and Ibrahim. They were both excellent, kind, and attentive. They were the reason our experience was fantastic. They catered to our needs all along the way. Thank you Ali and Ibrahim.

If I could give Abou 20 stars, I would!!! Our baggage was lost and our entire trip was spent without proper clothing and personal items. Abou went above and beyond trying to get our situation resolved. Although we were unsuccessful in locating our baggage, it was not for lack of trying. Abou kept our spirits lifted. I would definitely use Continent Tours again!

Abou deserves a galaxy of stars!!! My school, Wells Preparatory Academy, engaged in a cultural tour of Senegal. It was everything and more than we could have ever dreamed. Abou and staff were attentive, patient, and caring. I can’t thank them enough!!!

From what our travelers tell us, you've got two solid options here but with different strengths. Continent Tours, with Abou as guide, really shines when it comes to the details - they're quick to adjust plans when needed and keep everything running smoothly. Our customers consistently mention how Abou anticipates needs before they even come up, which makes a big difference during long travel days. Penguin Travel has Abdou who's quite the storyteller and really knows his material. He brings places to life with interesting facts and keeps the mood light. That said, we've heard from several travelers that the behind-the-scenes stuff like scheduling updates and pre-trip information could be better organized. A few mentioned having to follow up multiple times to get basic details sorted out. If you're someone who likes everything planned just so, Continent Tours would probably be your better match. They've got the logistics down to an art. But if you're more easy-going and value entertainment along with education, Penguin Travel with Abdou could work well too - just be prepared to stay on top of the planning details yourself.

"Mr Lamp Fall (Mamadou Diagne) & his driver Doudou were both simply amazing guides. I felt very safe with them. The tour itself was fantastic - the itinerary was great! My only recommendation was to add Djouj Bird Sanctuary (which we did, per Mr Fall's recommendation & per my request as well), I realize that portion is seasonal. I also recommend making it very clear that the tour Starts in Dakar but ENDS in Saly- it was a little confusing because there was a discrepancy between what the itinerary said versus the actual VOUCHER. Also, a faster responsiveness from both Tour Radar and/or the tour operator would definitely make a positive difference! I also suggest adding on the "Things You Must Know list" = is to add that most places we went for shopping do NOT take credit cards so to bring lots of CASH (for shoppers) & small change as many merchants seemed to be short on change. Also to bring personal toilet paper as many public bathrooms do not have it. Otherwise, the tour overall was FANTASTIC & I highly recommend it!!

"If you're even considering this tour, we highly recommend you book now. This tour is a great way to be introduced to Senegal and Ghana since they offer two different experiences but both in West Africa. If we could do anything differently, it would only be to add on the 2 day tour to see Saint Louis in Senegal because we would have liked to spend more time there. Our tour guide in Senegal was Abou and our driver was Ibou. Both were absolutely fabulous. Abou was willing to teach us about his country including some phrases in Wolof, answer all our questions, take us to delicious restaurants to try local food, and make sure we were always taken care of. Senegal is an amazing country with extremely welcoming people and a rich culture. In Ghana, our tour guide was Elvis. This tour is a good introduction to Ghana from bustling Accra to local crafts in Kumasi to the beautiful Cape Coast/Elmina area with its educational history. The people of Ghana were also very welcoming and we enjoyed the food and culture. This is a great local company with local guides and a local perspective. This trip truly enhanced our lives.

Best places to start your Senegal tour
Most people kick off their Senegal trip from Dakar - actually 19 out of our 24 travelers start right in the capital. You can also begin from Ndiass with its coastal charm, historic Saint Louis, the beach town of Saly and the fishing hub of Kayar, but these spots are less common starting points that each give you a different first taste of Senegal. Our booking data shows most people lock in their tours about 64 days ahead, which is smart for getting the dates and guides you want. The sweet spot for visiting is November through May in the dry season, when the weather's just right and rain stays away. It's perfect timing to mix cultural visits with wildlife watching at places like Fathala and Djoudj Bird Sanctuary, plus you can check out Lake Retba's pink waters and soak in the history of Gorée Island.

7 tours in SenegalPrivate tours last anywhere from 6 to 14 days and they're all about flexibility. Our guides Ali, Ibrahim and Abou regularly get fantastic feedback from travelers - they're known for handling everything from tracking down missing bags to adding surprise local meetings along the way. While each tour can be adjusted, popular activities include walking with lions at Fathala Reserve, taking horse-drawn carriage rides through Saint Louis and boat trips in the Djoudj Bird Sanctuary where you might spot up to 350 different bird species. Many people love staying overnight in the Lompoul desert camps, where you get traditional music around the campfire. The real plus here is setting your own pace - whether that's extra time for wildlife photos or browsing local markets.
Top Senegal travel itineraries to fit your plans
Ten days gives you the chance to really feel Senegal's unique rhythm. From Dakar, you'll head to the Lompoul Desert for a night in Bedouin-style tents - our travelers love waking up to ride camels across white dunes as the sun rises. Then it's off to Saint Louis for something completely different. The Saloum Delta offers peaceful boat rides through mangrove channels where you'll find countless birds at rest. These longer trips also take you to fascinating places like the Wassu Stone Circles in The Gambia, where even experts still debate the origins of these ancient megalithic sites. Our guests tell us they love how these 10-day tours balance wildlife watching, cultural visits and quiet moments to take it all in.
TourRadar recommends visiting:
Dakar, Ile de Goree, Saloum Delta National Park, Toubakouta, Georgetown, River Gambia National Park, Tendaba, Touba, Djoudj National Park
Two weeks lets you properly explore Senegal's southwest, with quality time at Niokolo Koba National Park. You can take boat trips to see hippo colonies or walk along the Gambia River where monkeys and exotic birds are easy to spot. The schedule includes unique experiences like hiking to Bedik villages and visiting the Dindefelo waterfall - its 80-meter cascade creates a perfect swimming spot in the basin below. You'll typically spend two nights in most places, which means there's time for both guided activities and independent exploring. Our travelers particularly enjoy visiting the Fathala Reserve, where they can walk with lions and see the rare West African Giant derby elands that you won't find anywhere else in the world.
TourRadar recommends visiting:
Dakar, Ile de Goree, Lake Retba, Thies, Saint Louis, Djoudj National Park, Touba, Kaolack, Tambacounda, Kedougou, Saly, Foret de Bandia National Park
Demographics
Our 8-day Senegal tours really hit the sweet spot for solo travelers - you'll feel like part of a Senegalese family thanks to guides like Dioudiou and Mr. Jang who get fantastic feedback from our guests. The days flow at a civilized pace, starting around 8-9am and wrapping up by 5pm, with nice chunks of evening downtime to relax. You'll dive into Dakar's bustling markets, take in the powerful history at Gorée Island's Door of No Return and spend a night under twinkling desert stars at Lompoul. The mix of places to stay keeps things interesting - from regular hotels to desert camps and beachfront spots. Our guides love showing you where locals actually eat, so you'll try real thieboudienne and other specialties well away from the usual tourist spots.
Our 6-day Senegal experience works brilliantly for couples who want both culture and quality time together. Starting in lively Dakar, you'll head to the fascinating Pink Lake where salt harvesters work their trade and nearby Fulani villages welcome visitors. The desert night at Lompoul is a real highlight - picture traditional dancing and drumming under an enormous starlit sky. Then it's off to Saint Louis by horse-drawn carriage, perfect for taking in the colonial buildings at a gentle pace. Our carefully picked hotels put you right in the middle of each location's character, which our couples really love for ending their days.
Our 13-day senior tours blend wildlife and heritage at a comfortable pace. Bird lovers get especially excited about Djoudj National Park - imagine watching pelicans dive in formation among the park's 400-plus bird species. We use comfortable transport between stops and give plenty of time to explore Saint Louis's colonial architecture. Pack a fleece though, as evenings can get cool. Our guide Baba knows his birds and local history inside out, and takes extra care to make sure everyone gets great views at each stop. The Gambia River portion lets you spot monkeys, hippos and crocodiles while staying comfy on the upper deck of our river boat.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Early November hits that sweet spot for fall tours - fewer mosquitoes and really nice temperatures. Our travelers love how these trips mix cultural experiences with nature watching. You might spend your morning on a boat spotting monkeys, crocodiles and lizards along the riverbanks, then visit traditional villages where local chiefs tell you about life in their communities. Many tours include nights at riverside camps where nature's sounds send you to sleep and birds wake you up. We often stop at the Wassu Stone Circles - it's fascinating to hear how archeologists and local people have different ideas about these 1,500-year-old monuments.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter tours really come alive in Senegal from November through March when Djoudj National Park fills with millions of migrating birds. Our most popular 8-10 day trips blend wildlife experiences with cultural discoveries. You'll catch incredible scenes of up to 15,000 pelicans diving in sync, plus flamingos, herons and more than 400 other bird species. The park visits pair nicely with heritage explorations - we take horse-drawn carriages through Saint Louis's old colonial streets and walk the quiet paths of Gorée Island. Our guests often mention guides like Baba, who combines deep bird knowledge with fascinating local history. Do bring a light fleece though - evenings get cooler than you'd think.
