What people love about South Iceland Tours
- 3 Days Golden Circle, South Coast and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon (Group Tour)
Very nice and sympthic Tourist Guides.
- Land of the Northern Lights - 5 days
This tour was even better than I expected. Our guide "Chris" was hilarious in true Icelandic fashion, our tour bus was comfortably spacious/not overly crowded, and the accommodations were decent for the price (Guesthouse Borgartun in Reykjavik was clean and comfortable, and the Arhus cabins in Hella were fantastically cozy albeit lacking in things like a hair dryer and waterproof shower curtains). Although we felt rushed at times because of the strict itinerary we were keeping, we did get to see everything we anticipated on this tour, including some northern lights! Well worth the price, especially as an introductory tour to Iceland. Would highly recommend this for first-time visitors to the country who may be interested in seeing a variety of the usual tourist sights and getting an entertaining and educational history in the process!
- 4 Day - Volcano Hike, Golden Circle, South Coast, Jökulsárlón & Ice Cave
I really enjoyed this tour as a solo traveler! My tour guide was amazing and took us to amazing places and explained a lot of history about Iceland. A definite must do if you want to be amazed with extraordinary landscapes.

When is the best time to visit South Iceland for a general tour?
South Iceland welcomes visitors year-round with distinct seasonal offerings. Summer months (June-August) bring endless daylight and mild temperatures between 11-15°C (52-59°F). This makes it ideal for exploring outdoor sites like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Winter (November-March) offers prime viewing of the Northern Lights and access to ice caves near Vatnajökull glacier. A TourRadar traveler noted "The weather in Iceland is ever changing - we had wind rain and hail for two days then got summer weather with very hot conditions so be prepared for anything!" The Fosshotel Baron in Reykjavik provides a central location for experiencing these seasonal attractions.
What are the must-see natural highlights on a general tour of South Iceland?
The natural wonders of South Iceland unfold along well-planned routes. The Golden Circle presents three key sites: the thundering Gullfoss waterfall Geysir geothermal area and Thingvellir National Park with its visible tectonic plates. The south coast reveals Reynisfjara's black sand beaches Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Seljalandsfoss waterfall. As one TourRadar traveler shared "Iceland's nature is dominated by glaciers and the landscape is breathtaking in their strength." Hotels like Fosshotel Nupar and Hotel Klettur offer convenient bases for exploring these natural sites.
How many days should I plan for a general tour of South Iceland?
A 6-7 day itinerary provides the right balance for exploring South Iceland's main attractions. This timeline allows visitors to take in the Golden Circle South Coast and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon at a comfortable pace. A TourRadar traveler confirms: "The 6-day trip was fantastic. Such great tour guides and beautiful places we got to visit. We felt we had enough time at each location to truly appreciate Iceland's beauty." Hotels like Eyjafjallajökull and Fosshotel Baron create convenient stopping points minimizing daily travel times.
What types of accommodation can I expect on a general South Iceland tour?
South Iceland's accommodation options blend comfort with location advantages. Reykjavik offers modern hotels like Fosshotel Baron while countryside properties such as Hotel Eyjafjallajökull provide scenic views. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The hotels were wonderful. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious. Each day we visited many places but there was never a rushed feeling." Most properties feature private bathrooms and include breakfast making them comfortable bases for daily excursions.
What unique experiences should I not miss in South Iceland?
