What people love about France And Germany Tours
- Treasures of the Rhine cruise (Basel-Amsterdam) MS Crucevita
The management and staff went over and above to accommodate passengers. Accommodations, food, excursions above our expectations. Will cruise with them again.
- Treasures of the Rhine cruise (Amsterdam-Basel) MS Crucevita
Crucevita was a nice sized boat. Excellent accommodations, clean everywhere, terrific food and good service. Marina, our cruise director, was very helpful. The journey was great. Nice to see all the castles and we enjoyed the stops. Suggestions would be to have more waiters and to improve the drink package. Meals took 1.5 hours which was a little long. Increase the variety of wine for the drink package. Offer wines from the region or even some spirit drinks at reduced cost.
- Captivating Rhine (Christmas Cruise) 2025
I've been on three Amawaterways ship and the cruise experience has not failed me a bit. Am recommending it to more friends.

Demographics
Rhine River cruises give couples a really lovely way to explore France and Germany side by side. The ships feature panoramic restaurants where regional wines come included with lunch and dinner, which our guests tell us adds a special touch to their meals together. You'll stay in well-designed cabins with good storage and clever windows that open into sun lounges - ideal for watching those medieval castles go by from your private space. What works particularly well for couples is how the days mix scheduled activities with free time to wander. You might spend a morning exploring Strasbourg's canals lined with flowers, then find a cozy wine tavern to share a traditional Rüdesheimer coffee. When you're ready to explore more, there are optional trips to historic wine cellars, Gothic cathedrals and also preserved medieval towns.
Our older travelers often tell us how much they enjoy these Rhine journeys - the ships are comfortable, the sightseeing is well-planned and you'll find plenty of storage space in your cabin. The crew really looks after you, always ready to help with whatever you need. The daily schedule hits a sweet spot: you could start with a morning visit to Cologne's cathedral, then relax on deck all afternoon watching vineyard-covered hills roll by. The food gets great reviews from our guests, with chefs preparing local dishes and happily adapting to different dietary needs. While some excursions need good walking ability, you'll find lots of easier options like scenic Black Forest drives, relaxed walks through flat city centers and also boat rides on Amsterdam's canals.

The river cruises make great use of the extended daylight - starting with early walks through Amsterdam's quiet morning canals and ending with sunset drinks on deck as you pass the Lorelei Rock. Our travelers tell us they particularly enjoy tasting wines up in Rüdesheim's hillside vineyards, taking small boats through Strasbourg's flower-filled waterways and walking the cool paths of the Black Forest. The coach tours take full advantage of the nice weather too, with trips up to Heidelberg's castle by cable car and plenty of time in Baden-Baden's elegant gardens. You'll find our customers spending their free time at outdoor cafés in Lyon's old quarter and taking evening walks through Marseille's lively port area.

The Rhine valley really comes alive during winter, especially on those December cruises between Basel and Amsterdam. You'll find Christmas markets filling the historic squares of every port town, where our travelers love browsing local crafts while warming up with cups of mulled wine. The winter tours include some special touches - there are evening concerts inside Strasbourg's Gothic cathedral and guided walks along Carcassonne's fortress walls when they're all lit up at night. One spot our customers always photograph is Colmar's old town, where the traditional half-timbered houses look particularly charming with a dusting of snow.
