Our travelers keep coming back amazed by Plitvice Lakes National Park's crystal-clear pools and waterfalls - it really sets the tone for what makes exploring the Adriatic so special. When you hop between the Dalmatian islands, you'll find Hvar's lovely vineyards and lively nightlife, while Korcula lets you trace Marco Polo's footsteps through medieval streets while tasting excellent local wines. For active types, Sipan Island offers fantastic kayaking spots and cliff jumping at the Green Cave, and cycling through Mljet National Park combines pristine nature with good exercise. The food here ties everything together beautifully - our guests particularly love the fresh seafood, traditional Dalmatian meat loaf and unique GRK white wines from the region. We've found April through June or September to October offer the best experience, with pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists around, making it easier to really connect with local life and traditions.

Bosnia's explorer tours connect wild landscapes with deep cultural experiences, where you'll find yourself swimming at Kravica Falls or joining local families to make traditional cheese. The 7-8 day routes blend active outdoor activities with authentic food discoveries - our travelers often mention how much they love mixing morning rafting on the Neretva River with afternoon visits to hidden Sarajevo eateries. The jeep safaris are particularly special, taking you into remote areas where wild horses roam freely at sunset. What makes these tours work so well is the natural mix of physical activities and real local connections. You might spend your morning exploring nature spots, then share a traditional BBQ lunch with locals or visit a village apiary to learn about honey production, meet the beekeepers and also taste their products.

Based on what our travelers have shared, Tour Maje really stands out with two guides who make a big difference - Adnan and Solfu get mentioned often for knowing their stuff inside and out. Naturetrips has built up a solid reputation too, especially when it comes to giving visitors a real taste of Bosnia through local food and culture, plus they've picked some nice places to stay along the way. Tour Mage has made quite an impression with how quickly they handle questions and changes - their manager Elvis seems to go out of his way to make things work for guests. One of their guides, Edis, keeps getting special mentions from travelers who appreciate how enthusiastic he is and how he stays attentive to everyone's needs throughout the tour. It's worth noting all these companies have found their own way to do things well - whether it's Tour Maje's professional approach, Naturetrips' cultural focus or Tour Mage's personal touch and excellent service level.

"This was a combined trip/s from Berlin to Budapest and then Budapest to Spit so I had an experience with two different tour groups. The scenery and history is explained so well by our tour guide and learning more about the Serb/Bosnian war was invaluable. Auschwitch was cold, wet and raining and it depicted the conditions under which these people had to survive. Very moving day indeed for all. Budapest has such beautiful scenery and lovely icecream, cakes and chocolates! Spit is a walled city and I was there before the crowds which made it more comfortable for all.

"Sadly Traveling with Intrepid was just plain disappointing. We were booked a double room on our Croatia Sailing Trip in 2018 for 2020 as the last part of our Honeymoon and was unfortunately like so many due to Covid, couldn't travel. The trip was pushed back to 2023 and we were excited to finally go. Booked 5 years in advance and the first book on our boat. Keep this in mind as we go . . . When we arrived, we found our boat was unavailable due to engine problems, understandable and a newer boat had been arranged, Great :-) We were driven to another wharf and led to our boat by our skipper. The room on board that we were given was not a double. . . Not even close but the other two couples on board were given large double rooms - how is this fair?? We paid the same and booked first!! (one of these couples only booked a few weeks before we departed). Why would you sell a single space as a double????? I was told "this is just how boats are". So we slept very little and woke up sore and stiff every day. Our skipper then proceed to advise us he had never had more than 5 guests plus himself on a vessel such small size - WE HAD 8 GUESTS PLUS HIM! My husband and i were expected to share a room the same size that the skipper had to himself, half the size of the actual double. One of the other guests had to sleep on the couch in the galley due to the configuration ( meaning we couldn't use it all trip), another guest was saturated in the night because his window seals leaked. We also got wet in the night as our window also leaked. We were then advised there would be NO SNORKLING GEAR as was promised on the Intrepid website - I was particularly upset by this as it was one of the reasons we even booked a sailing trip in Croatia. I adore snorkeling and was heartbroken. We were told to buy some gear ourselves when we stopped on one of the Island but couldn't find any at the places we stopped. The skipper then left us, we didn't see him until the next day - this happened every night and a couple of times, skippers from other boats had to come helps us secure mast lines etc because he had left us.. NO SAFELY BREIEFINGS ( i still don't know where the life jackets were), given vague directions to the supermarket and told we could no use the showers on the boat, only on land at the wharfs we stopped at overnight - some of which were truly gross. The skipper then proceeded to shower onboard EVERYDAY. He advised us we would be skipping 2 of the islands on the plan as we would need to conclude our trip one day early Including Vis and the Blue cave. When i mentioned this was something important to me to visit, he advised we would visit a better cave, much less busy. We didn't, we just skipped that whole part. We skipped 2 islands, TWO?! Completed our sailing a day early with NO COMPENSATION due to the boat needing to be returned to Split for the next group and have been ignored by Intrepid since, In fact they have lied repeatedly to my Travel agent about being in touch with us when we asked to discuss a partial refund due to the above reasons. We have been waiting almost 2 months and no contact at all from them. Croatia is beautiful and i highly recommend visiting, doing a sailing trip but 150% absolutely DO NOT DO IT WITH INTREPID. Just a S**T company with very little care for customers. "Pack as many as you can in" should be their Catch phrase. You ruined my Honeymoon Intrepid and you should be ashamed.

"We had an excellent time on the 7 Day Bosnian Experience recently, with Tour Maje. We were picked up on time at the airport on our arrival by Adnan who showed us around Sarajevo Old Town, which was just around the corner from our hotel. For the rest of our tour we were guided by Solfu (Excuse the spelling) who was very knowledgeable and good fun to be with. Everything on the advertised itinery was covered plus more when there was time. There was no rush and the tour was very easy going and gave us plenty of time in the evenings to explore. We also met Elvis for a brief time as he had a large group, so that was a nice touch. Bosnia is a beautiful country especially when you get into the countryside and the mountains, so well worth the visit.

Best places to start your Bosnia tour
Sarajevo leads as the main gateway for Bosnia tours with 16 different routes starting in the capital, while Dubrovnik follows with 15 departures and Mostar offers 11 options. Makarska, Trebinje and other regional cities provide alternative starting points. Our booking data shows that reserving about 32 days ahead hits the sweet spot - you'll get your preferred dates while having enough time to sort out travel details. This timing matters especially during summer peaks or if you're looking at popular cross-border tours into Croatia. Our travelers typically spend 2-3 days discovering Sarajevo's mix of Ottoman buildings, busy markets and significant war sites, though those wanting to dig deeper into both culture and nature spots like Kravica Falls and the Dinaric Alps hiking paths usually plan for 7-10 days. Winter brings fewer tourists and shows a different side of local life, though some mountain routes might be closed due to weather.

Week-long tours really get under Bosnia's skin, as our travelers consistently tell us these trips mix outdoor activities with genuine local connections. Many tours start in Trebinje where you'll browse local markets and visit family beekeepers before meeting cheese makers who've kept old traditions alive for generations. While you'll spend time in both Mostar and Sarajevo, it's the unique moments that make these special - like joining locals on jeep rides to spot wild horses, navigating the Neretva river rapids and gathering around campfires for traditional BBQ. Nature fans particularly like visiting both Kravica and Kočuša waterfalls, while history enthusiasts value the UNESCO medieval tomb sites and also Tito's Cold War bunker.

Demographics
Bosnia's solo travel options really shine with a mix of active outdoor experiences and cultural discovery. One walking tour takes you deep into quiet mountain areas where it's just you and the occasional shepherd in the hills. Our local guides go the extra mile - they even carry thermoses to brew coffee and tea during trail lunches. You can climb Maglic peak at 7,835 feet and visit hidden spots like Lukomir village to try homemade cheese and traditional pies. Some tours combine hiking with rafting on the Neretva River, while others focus on exploring Sarajevo and Mostar at an easy pace with free evenings to find local restaurants and cafes on your own.
Our couples tours balance active experiences with romantic settings. Many routes begin in historic Trebinje, perfect for evening old town walks and riverside dining. From there you'll visit places like Kravica Falls for swimming and take jeep safaris to watch wild horses at sunset. Our travelers tell us they love mixing outdoor activities with cultural experiences - maybe rafting the Neretva one day, then learning traditional Bosnian coffee-making or enjoying lunch at a family cheese farm the next. There's a good mix of guided activities and free time to wander Mostar's cobbled lanes or take evening walks along Sarajevo's riverfront.
Young adults tend to pick our more active Bosnia routes that pack different experiences into each day. Popular activities include 4WD trips to find wild horses in the Dinaric Alps, white water rafting sessions on the Neretva and also hiking to mountain villages. Many tours connect you with local life through hands-on activities - you might make burek pies in a Sarajevo home, watch coffee roasting demos or join street art walks. The social side is a big draw too, with BBQ nights around campfires, group hikes to places like Lukomir and free evenings to check out Bosnia's craft beer spots.
Senior travelers often choose our tours that balance cultural experiences with moderate walking. The Sutjeska National Park routes are well-planned with guides who adjust the pace for comfort. Many prefer itineraries mixing shorter walks with visits to historic sites - traditional riverside monasteries, medieval fortresses with valley views and also ancient monuments. Our travelers especially enjoy the cultural elements - exploring Sarajevo's old bazaars, visiting family apiaries to learn about honey-making and spending time in small towns like Stolac. With comfortable hotels in good locations, it's easy to explore independently during free evenings.

Our summer tours in Bosnia & Herzegovina blend activity and culture in ways that really work well with the warm weather. Travelers love starting their mornings rafting down the crystal-clear Neretva River and then enjoying casual BBQ lunches right by the water. There's also this great 4WD trip out to see wild horses near Livno that wraps up with sunset views across the Dinaric Alps - it's become a favorite among our guests. For anyone wanting to connect with local life, we've got a tour where families in Sarajevo teach you to make traditional burek, plus you'll taste homemade cheese in mountain villages along the way. The more active routes include swimming stops at Kravica Falls and treks up to Lukomir, a traditional village sitting at 4,820 feet - it's actually Bosnia's highest settlement. Our customers tell us they especially like how these tours mix physical activities with real cultural experiences, so you might spend your morning on a trail and finish your day learning beekeeping from local families.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Fall creates ideal conditions for discovering Bosnia's varied landscapes and rich heritage. We've got this excellent route starting in Trebinje where you'll explore local markets, meet farming families and learn how they've made cheese the same way for generations. The hiking tours really shine this time of year - our travelers love catching the autumn colors while trekking through the Bjelasnica Mountains and visiting hidden spots like Lukomir. History buffs tend to pick tours combining the medieval tombstones at Radimlja with walks through Mostar's carefully restored old quarter. Food-focused travelers go for our harvest season tours where you'll visit beekeepers, try wines from local producers and share meals with families in their homes. The feedback we get shows people really appreciate how the cooler weather makes exploring both cities and countryside much more comfortable, while fall colors add something special to places like the Neretva Canyon, Sutjeska National Park and other scenic spots.
