1 Review by TourRadar travelers“The tremendous work on routing was appreciated, but the fair-weather routing proved challenging.”
John, traveled in March 2024
The Algarve stretches magnificently from Sagres fortress to Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Cape St. Vincent lighthouse, Lagos's maritime quarter, and Ria Formosa park highlight the journey, complemented by stays at upscale hotels like Tivoli Lagos and AP Eva Senses.

What people love about Algarve Tours
- Algarve
Bikes: Good to excellent, saddle size was a downgrade. The large, padded saddles caused new friction where sitting wear points didn't exist. Unfortunately, bike companies refuse to standardize bike saddles so there is no solution for clients traveling too far to bring a saddle. Route: appreciate the tremendous work on routing . . . but it appeared as fair-weather routing. Spring rains turned many (most) miles of hard-packed dirt (with a bit of gravel) into mud, hectares of mud. (And in the water/mud, one cannot see the potholes.) We made a few ride-arounds after bogging down too often in the seasonal mud. We also rode around the silly segment to 'walk the bikes on the sand'. Recommend Eurobike recommend one free and one pay mapping routing service to clients to use with the GPX provided. Lodging: Strongly prefer lodging on the route and with local flavor vs corporate (holiday vs business traveler). Lagos - Hotel Tavoli had ants in the bathroom. Lodging at Albefera, Cerro da Marina was excessively off the route and in a heavily residential area. Luggage transfer: perfect.
- Walking in Portugal - Remote Coastal Trails
Stunning views every day and a very engaging and dedicated tour leader made this my favourite Explore trip yet. Plenty of much desired solitude on the walks - too often I find them crowded with other groups. Grading was accurate, the walks were never near exhausting. Breakfasts at the hotel were not suitable for a day of walking, but the variety and quality of food available nearby for dinners was excellent. Not enough positive things can be said about our guide, Carol. She is new but one would never know had she not said so...and a natural for the job.

"We had the unfortunate experience of participating in a walking tour that was led by an extremely unprofessional tour leader, lydia. She led the walking tour of Faro, Portugal. May 5th to May 12 2024. From the outset, it was clear that she was disengaged and uninterested in her role. Rather than interacting with the group and providing insightful information about the area, she spent the majority of the time on her phone, neglecting her responsibilities. There was a noticeable lack of enthusiasm and effort on her part. We were not given any meaningful context or background about the sites we visited, which greatly diminished the overall experience. The tour felt more like a self-guided walk with a stranger who was constantly distracted, rather than an informative and engaging exploration led by a knowledgeable guide. Additionally, she insisted that local restaurants did not accept credit cards and collected cash from the group on the first night, quickly dashing to the register. It was obvious she had a deal going with these restaurants, which left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Out of the 8 restaurants we dinned at, only one location didn’t accept credit card. To make matters worse, she often talked behind tour participants’ backs, causing gossip and division within the group from day one. This behavior was highly unprofessional and created a negative atmosphere among the participants. It's disappointing when a tour leader fails to enhance the experience, especially when part of the attraction is learning about the history and significance of the places visited. Unfortunately, the tour leader, Lydia did not meet our expectations, and we would not recommend this tour leader to others based on this experience.
