The Himalayas offer some of the world's most rewarding treks, and TourRadar travelers keep telling us about how these journeys changed their perspective. The Everest Base Camp Trek lets you follow the same paths as history's great climbers, with Mt. Everest right there in front of you. Our customers particularly enjoy spotting the wide mountain views across the Annapurna Range, and many say reaching Thorong La pass gives them a real sense of personal achievement. The experience goes deeper than just walking though - you'll find yourself in remote villages where life moves at its own pace, meet local families and discover ancient traditions. The spiritual atmosphere around Pashupatinath Temple adds another layer to the journey. What stands out in our travelers' stories isn't just the mountains, but the genuine connections they make with Sherpa communities and the quiet moments spent in Buddhist monasteries along the way.

Our hikers particularly enjoy the monastery routes - from the forest path leading to Khamsum Yuelley Chorten and also the pine-lined trail climbing 900m up to Tiger's Nest above Paro Valley.

Our guests love mixing physical activities with cultural experiences, like climbing to sacred sites before soaking in traditional hot stone baths at local farmhouses. The paths through rhododendron forests up to Dochula Pass at 3,150m offer both a good workout and fascinating insights about the 108 memorial chortens you'll find along the way.

"I have wanted to visit Bhutan for a long time. The trip and the hikes were great and I was glad to be able to sit a hike or 2 out. We had fun, saw beautiful mountains and shrines and I have to say Dorji was the one who made it most enjoyable.

"This has been one of the two best journeys in my life, the other being Mongolia. Some of the hikes were memorable, like the one where we could see a valley from the top and walk down into it. The spiritual aspect was also interesting since it's hard to doing an English guide who can explain it in other countries. Bhutanese food is too spicy for my liking but Sonam and Nedup took good care of my after I fainted from eating ema datshi. They also made sure I could come back safely when I chose to explore the town at night. This has been the best guided trip ever and it was in large part due to the fun and energy of Sonam and Nedup!

Best places to start your Bhutan tour
Most visitors touch down in Paro since it's got the main international airport and the much-photographed Tiger's Nest Monastery. A handful of tours kick off from the capital Thimphu after a quick drive from Paro. Here's something crucial to know - you'll want to lock in your plans about 110 days (3.5 months) before traveling. The country keeps tourism numbers limited and you'll need time to sort out the special visa and get your preferred dates, especially when festivals are happening or weather conditions are ideal. Spring brings rhododendrons painting the valleys in color from March through May and autumn offers those crystal-clear mountain views between September and November. Many of our guests love timing their visits with local Tshechus (festivals) where you can watch traditional mask dances and really dive into authentic Bhutanese culture.
Discover Bhutan tours for every budget
The luxury tours in Bhutan really shine when it comes to special accommodations and exclusive experiences. You'll stay at carefully selected heritage properties and premium resorts across Paro, Thimphu and Punakha. Our guests particularly enjoy relaxing in private hot stone baths with mountain views and sharing meals with local families in traditional farmhouses. The tours include nice touches like private meditation sessions with monks and intimate cultural performances just for your group. We've designed routes that mix classic sites like Tiger's Nest with visits to quiet mountain villages most tourists never see. The 10-14 day timeframe lets you slow down and really get into the peaceful rhythm of Bhutanese life.

Having your own guide and driver makes a real difference, especially at places like Kyichu Lhakhang and Tashichho Dzong where you can take time to learn about Buddhist traditions at your own speed. The cultural immersion options are quite popular - you'll visit traditional paper makers, watch skilled craftsmen at work in the Institute of Zorig Chusum and learn about local medicine practices. If you go for a longer tour, you can head into the Bumthang Valley in central Bhutan to try local cheese and wine while exploring old temples. For more active guests, we can mix some nice treks through Phobjikha Valley with the cultural visits.

Demographics
Solo travelers find a real friend in their guides while exploring Bhutan, making the whole experience feel secure and social. Most pick 5-8 day trips covering Thimphu, Punakha and also Paro. One traveler clicked immediately with her guide Lhamo and driver Pema right from touchdown. Another mentioned how having women guides and drivers made her feel extra comfortable throughout. There's plenty of chances to meet people - sharing dinner with local families or chatting with monks at monasteries. Our solo guests really value being able to take things at their own speed, especially during temple visits.
Couples tend to go for our smaller tour formats that mix cultural sites with quiet moments together. We include nice touches like traditional hot stone baths and private meals in family farmhouses. Many love staying in heritage hotels overlooking the mountains, particularly in Punakha Valley. The hiking gives them quality time - whether they're walking through pine forests to Tiger's Nest or exploring terraced fields to hidden temples. Several pairs told us how special it felt joining morning prayers and evening rituals together at the dzongs.
Our senior travelers find the Bhutan tours well-organized with a comfortable pace. We've had guests in their mid-seventies complete the Tiger's Nest trek, thanks to guides who know exactly how to adjust the walking speed. One couple really appreciated how their guide made complex Buddhist concepts easy to understand. We use good vehicles for mountain roads and pick hotels that offer both local character and modern comfort. The flexible schedule works well - seniors can rest when needed while still seeing all the main cultural sites. Many mention feeling completely looked after by their guides while exploring somewhere so different.
Our family tours in Bhutan run 6-7 days and hit just the right balance of culture and outdoor activities. Kids really get into the monastery visits when they're mixed with hiking - the Tiger's Nest trek gives them a real sense of achievement while staying totally doable. A recent family of four told us how their guide perfectly adjusted their pace during the snowy season. Local homestays consistently come up as the best part of the trip, with families feeling genuinely welcomed into Bhutanese homes. The hands-on bits like cooking with locals and trying archery keep younger travelers interested while they're soaking up the culture.
