- RKRussell· June 21st, 2024The itinerary was busy with much ground to be covered. Everything was prepared for us including accommodation, meals and travel. Our guide, Hami, was incredible with her knowledge and caring way of looking after her travellers. Sam our driver was outstanding given the tough terrain we traversed. Can’t congratulate the team enough for their tremendous trekking expedition!!Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewDear Russell! - JTJill· July 19th, 2023Our family’s 12 day Safari with Mukisa was perfect from start to finish. We laughed (with our wonderful guide and driver) and cried (the gorillas) and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The company is Ugandan and committed to social justice and environmental sustainability. You can feel good knowing your money is going to Ugandan female guides and businesses that have a social and environmental conscience. Our safari was completely customized for our family’s needs and preferences (no strangers to travel with and no line of safari vans in front of a single lion.) The price was better than competitive and the planning stage seamless. Richard, who has the patience of a saint, worked with our crazy schedules and changes without complaint. His responses to my questions were immediate - even when it was the middle of the night in Uganda - and our special requests welcomed. When I mentioned that I’d love to see hippos, Richard added a boat trip for example. When we asked about tree climbing lions, a lion tracking morning was added. The safari was very well organized but remained flexible. If we expressed an interest in something, more of it was added in. The safari itself could not have been more fun. The food was exceptional, the accommodations comfortable and clean, luxurious at times without being ostentatious. The safari van had a pop-up top (great for photos), all the time internet and bottles of cold water. Our family’s favorite part of the trip, hands down, was our guide, Hami and our driver, John. They are smart and funny, resourceful and flexible, always sensitive to our needs and the kindest, most caring people I have ever met. They made potential unfortunate events (a flat tire) into fun memories (I got to ride on a boda boda!). When Hami could tell my energy was waning, she built in time to rest. I was constantly amazed by how much they knew - about the wildlife, the roads, Uganda. They created an atmosphere of such fun and warmth that the safari instantly became, and will likely remain, our favorite trip ever - in 50 years of travel! Uganda is an amazing country of breathtaking beauty and unbelievably friendly and kind people. I will always be grateful to Mukisa for sharing it with us. We have arrived home but our hearts remain in Uganda.Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewDear Jill, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this wonderful review! - JHJane· July 7th, 2023It’s hard to know where to start writing this review for what was easily the most incredible 12 days I’ve had in my life. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel extensively throughout the world and visiting Uganda to see the gorillas and chimpanzees has been on my bucket list since I was about 8 years old. For me, deciding where to go and who to go with wasn’t easy, as I have always travelled independently in the past. I started as most people do, with Google search and found so many options! I relied heavily on reviews (and my own intuition) and eventually landed on Mukisa Safaris. From the first interaction with Richard (via Instagram- their website was down at the time which he immediately rectified), the communication was incredible. Many people had commented on how fantastic Richard was- and I can definitely confirm this! From the moment we were in contact, he was helpful with suggestions and ideas for my trip and accommodating changes as we went along. As a solo female traveller, I wasn’t sure about safety given the Australian government recommendations for travel to Uganda but felt 100% at ease from the moment I met the amazing team and the entire time I was with Mukisa. The team… Again, hard to put into words my gratitude for these two incredible humans - Giraffe (Mabel) and Sam. I can say, the trip would not have been the same without them! Not only were they so professional, supportive and accommodating, but they were SO MUCH FUN! Giraffe is such a wealth of knowledge about all things Uganda and East Africa- the people, customs, wildlife and culture. Her way to listening and tuning into your needs is quite remarkable. She is always one step ahead ensuring you have the most special experience possible, adapting the schedule or making small changes to ensure you are comfortable and always satisfied. I wanted to try local food early in the trip, so Giraffe organised a great place where I could try it and from then on, I was hooked. We found a way to eat this most days (instead of packed lunches)- which I absolutely loved (just stay away from too much of what they call ‘white food’ or you’ll be snoozing in the car all afternoon!). Sam is THE BEST driver in Uganda- getting us through all the brown roads with ease and keeping us entertained with his calm presence and sense of humour. The camaraderie between Giraffe and Sam was a joy to be around and feel incredibly fortunate to now call them both friends. Without a doubt, the easiest 5 stars I have given! I couldn’t recommend highly enough. I love the ethos of Mukisa Safaris and the fact that they only employ female guides to create opportunities for women in what is a male dominated industry made the decision to go with them even easier. Thank you so much for the trip of a lifetime, I couldn’t be more grateful or satisfied!Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewJane, what a great review! All we can say is thank you so much for the support! We will remain ever grateful for your support; Giraffe and many other young girls will live better lives with such support! Thank you again Jane! - CChristine· April 19th, 2022We booked a trip of 12 days with Mukisa Safaris. Our main interest was to the gorillas and the Big 5 of Africa but we experience and learnt more than we anticipated. At the time of booking, we read extensively and basing on the previous reviews that had been posted about Mukisa Safaris, we opted to book with them. I find it pertinent to say that the reviews clearly represent the way Mukisa Safaris organizes safaris. I liked the way Richard responded to our many questions and the fact that he was very open and disclosed to us everything we needed to know and what we didn’t know very important for the success of our trip. We really liked the lodges that were recommended to us especially in Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi National parks. We felt that we were immersed in nature and apart from our usual crazy busy life. The team at Mukisa Safaris ensured that we traveled safely and much appreciation to our driver John and our guide Hamidah who made out holiday very interesting and memorable. Mukisa safaris is such an amazing company that I would strongly recommend to anyone who wants to receive a wonderful time while in Uganda.Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewHi Christine, thank you so much for the wonderful comments and encouraging words about us. - AAliceogden· February 23rd, 2022A perfect trip! We are so pleased we booked with Mukisa. At the time of booking we did not know anyone who had been to Uganda and so we had no recommendations to rely on. However, from reading the wonderful reviews (which do not exaggerate) and after some emails with Richard, who is extremely responsive and helpful, we knew we could trust this company and that they were the right option to book with. Mukisa was happy to tailor our plans so that it was completely bespoke to what we wanted out of our holiday. In general, this was to see as much wildlife as possible! We were lucky to see all the big 5, along with cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, chimpanzees and many more (including lots of birds). Cultural experiences were also very interesting and we enjoyed the food, which was tasty everywhere we visited. Our guide and driver were brilliant and made sure that we had an informative and comfortable time. Our driver made us feel 100% safe on the roads and we enjoyed seeing so much of the country by road over the course of a 15 day trip. The visit to the mountain gorillas exceeded even our high expectations - this is something that everybody should do in their lifetime! Accommodation was lovely throughout the trip, much of it in safari lodges where you are close to nature and can enjoy the sounds of the animals in the vicinity. There are many different options for different budgets which Richard is happy to discuss in detail. In terms of COVID, Mukisa made it easy for us to understand the entry requirements and we did not feel while we were travelling that COVID got in the way of our experience. It felt very safe - with lots of face masks and sanitiser available.Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewDear Alice, thank you so much for the wonderful review! Thank you once again for choosing Mukisa Safaris Uganda! We will be glad to travel with you again as we explore Uganda!Trip date: February 2022
- JJoel· October 14th, 2021I and my other 3 friends have just returned home from a trip in Uganda and it has been a wonderful and memorable vacation. After a few days of looking for a travel company, we found Mukisa Safaris and we instantly decided to book with the company. This because Richard exercised exceptional professionalism and promptness. He was exceedingly helpful, accommodative in crafting out the best itinerary that suited the best interests of our group and it was indeed the best travel plan as it enabled us explore and navigate almost the entire country in just 2 weeks. We visited several parks including Kidepo, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo, and Bwind Forest. Uganda is such a beautiful country with varying ecosystems that are incredible for nature lovers. During our entire vacation period in Uganda, our guide Veronica and driver John were amazing people. They were so friendly and they made us feel safe and comfortable. We miss moments of enjoying cutting and eating fruits with them and ofcourse their incredible stories. Importantly, they posses vast knowledge about their country about everything. We slept in eco friendly lodges that were very clean and served delicious meals. Uganda is exceptionally endowed with many animals and during the game drives we encountered many animals including the African Big 5. However, the experience of tracking gorillas is comparable to none. It's such an awesome experience seeing gorillas just close in a few meters. We shall return to Uganda for another experience with gorillas. We thank Mukisa Safaris for their exceptional services and we highly recommend their professional services.Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewWow! Thank you Joel for the comments! - ZZamin· October 12th, 2021With the resumption of the travel industry globally, we thought of going for a holiday and Africa emerged as our travel destination. We decided to first visit Uganda as it’s been our dream of seeing the gorillas. We contacted a few travel agents and Richard of Mukisa Safaris proved to be extremely prompt, courteous and helpful. Initially, we had intended on spending only 5 days in Uganda since our main aim was to see gorillas. We were however assured by Richard that Uganda has more to offer and he customized our tour that involved wildlife, community visits, water rafting, chimp tracking in addition to gorilla trekking. During our email and Whatsapp exchanges, Richard was very prompt, informative, helpful and reliable. On our arrival at the Ugandan airport, we were received by Richard together with his team. The safari immediately commenced with traveling to Jinja for water adventure. It was such an awesome expedition of rafting on water. After rafting, we returned to Kampala where we spent our night in a very beautiful, clean hotel. The following day, we resumed with our safari and traveled to Murchison Falls National park though we first visited and tracked Rhinos at Ziwa. Murchison falls is a beautiful park with green rolling plains and greatly endowed with a variety of animals. The wildlife safari continued to Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Park and during the game drives, we saw all the Big 5 of Africa. The walking safari in Lake Mburo was very fascinating as we got close to most of the animals especially the beautiful and peaceful zebras. Ugandans are extremely hospitable people and they have left everlasting smiles on our faces. They were so friendly during our social and community interactions with them. Towards the last days of our safari, it was time for our dream of seeing the gorillas come true. After briefing, we requested for the most challenging hike since we wanted to experience every single detail of the trekking exercise. After walking in the dense forest for 3 hours, we finally found the gorillas and they were feeding. Wow…….It was such an amazing moment standing up close to the gorillas seeing them carry on with their activities. If possible, every person would experience this. If it wasn’t by policy that after founding gorillas you are allowed to stay in their vicinity for one hour, we would have stayed with them admiring these beautiful giants. Importantly to note, during our 2 weeks in Uganda, we were in the company of Hamida and John as our guide and driver respectively. These two were very hospitable, caring, informative, courteous, and friendly and they made our trip a success. Hamida was very knowledgeable about everything in Uganda and we were moved by her vast knowledge about birds and animals and during our stay with them, we felt safe and secure. I recommend Mukisa Safaris to any one intending to travel to Uganda.Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewDear Zamin it was a honour travelling with you! Thank you so much for the wonderful comments. Like you promised, please return for another trip.Trip date: July 2021
