This was a return to Uganda where we worked for two years as volunteers 50 years ago. Bosco provided a modified 11day tour for us to include more time in places we wanted to revisit. He was terrific. Everything worked out better than we could have hoped, from level of accommodation, meals, transportation, itinerary, his extensive knowledge and personality as a guide. He was fun to be with, especially important when in a vehicle for long hours.

Words can't describe the feeling of staring into the brown eyes of a gentle giant who is so much like yourself. Gorilla trekking is the ultimate safari experience and if you're visiting Rwanda or Uganda then obtaining a permit to Bwindi or Volcanoes National Park should be on your wish list.

Travel Uganda your way
A safari in Uganda promises a thrilling experience. Witness the majesty of gorillas in the lush Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, spot chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, and keep your eyes peeled for lions in Queen Elizabeth Park.
See all Safari toursUganda offers serious trekking that really tests your legs and rewards your effort. The most sought-after experiences are gorilla treks through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where you'll climb steep hills and navigate twisting trails for 2-8 hours until you meet these remarkable creatures. Our travelers consistently tell us how much they learn from the expert rangers, who teach actual tracking techniques and share detailed insights about gorilla families. If you're looking for variety, the Sipi Falls area offers moderate 3-4 hour hikes past three cascading waterfalls, with routes winding through small villages and coffee farms. For a full day in nature, head to Kibale Forest to track chimps, or take it easier with walks in Lake Mburo National Park where zebras and giraffes often cross your path just meters away.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursUganda packs in plenty of active experiences that get your heart racing for good reason. Take the white water rafting near Jinja - you'll navigate 31km of Nile rapids before relaxing with a riverside BBQ lunch. Many of our guests combine this with up-close rhino tracking at Ziwa Sanctuary and a challenging hike to view Murchison Falls from above. For wildlife encounters that really test your tracking skills, our travelers often highlight the lion tracking in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where skilled guides teach you to read signs and follow these big cats through the grasslands. We can also arrange hands-on cultural experiences like learning traditional Batwa hunting methods or peaceful canoe trips on Lake Bunyonyi, where you'll spot many of the lake's 200 bird species and can safely swim in the calm waters.
See all Active toursUganda's most popular tours combine gorilla encounters with rich cultural experiences, typically running 5 to 10 days. The quick 5-day programs leave from Entebbe and take you straight to Bwindi, where you'll join small groups led by local rangers who know every trail through the thick forest canopy to find the gorilla families. If you can spare 8 days, you'll get to add fascinating chimpanzee tracking in Kalinzu Forest and also catch sight of the unusual tree-climbing lions in Ishasha. Our travelers often tell us the 10-day option gives them the fullest picture of Uganda - it kicks off with rhino tracking at Ziwa Sanctuary, heads up to see the powerful Murchison Falls and then south for quality time with both gorillas and chimps.

"We had an amazing time on a private seven-day tour with Mukisa Safaris. Despite the limited time, we managed to experience so much—more than what you'd usually see in two weeks in other countries. Our coordinator, Richard, and driver-guide, John, were incredibly friendly and dedicated to making sure we were happy. Richard helped plan the trip, offered multiple options, adjusted the itinerary to match our preferences, and gave packing tips that proved super helpful. John, on the other hand, was a tireless driver and guide rolled into one. He knows all the animals of the savannah, the best times to head out, and somehow manages to spot wildlife even while driving. Thanks to him, we not only checked off all the activities on our itinerary but even went beyond it. We saw animals that most tourists miss, like hyenas and leopards. He answered all our questions, shared stories about life in Uganda, was polite, cheerful, and always ready to solve little problems that came up along the way. The team at Mukisa Safaris are fantastic partners for anyone looking to explore Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. It’s almost impossible to organize such a trip on your own, especially on your first visit, but with Mukisa, it’s all achievable. Highly recommend! Just one tip—don’t limit yourself to a week; aim for 10–12 days to see everything this beautiful country has to offer. And yes, chimpanzee trekking (and most likely gorilla trekking, which we didn’t get to) is absolutely worth it. Don’t hesitate—it’s an investment in memories you’ll treasure forever.

"A Fantastic Trip with Enchanted Uganda Safari We felt completely safe, secure, and well cared for throughout our trip with Bosco from Enchanted Uganda Safari. Bosco’s expertise, adaptability, and ability to handle unforeseen changes (such as activity schedule modifications) made our journey even better than expected. His extensive knowledge of the parks and wildlife, combined with an uncanny ability to locate animals and birds, allowed us to see far more than we had imagined. We spotted hippopotamuses, African lions, giraffes, zebras, leopards, gorillas, and chimpanzees. The accommodations were exactly as described, and Bosco’s advice about when air conditioning would be necessary was invaluable. Thanks to Enchanted Uganda Safari, we had the trip of a lifetime.

Best places to start your Uganda tour
Most of our Uganda safaris kick off from Entebbe, with 76% of travelers starting here - it just makes sense given its international airport and position on Lake Victoria's shore just south of Kampala. While Kampala departures are available, Entebbe proves more practical for most visitors. You'll want to book around 55 days ahead, especially for gorilla treks since permits are limited and sell quickly in peak season. Many travelers have found great success combining their gorilla experience with chimp tracking in Kibale Forest, where you've got better than 90% chance of spotting our primate cousins. Early morning light works wonders for wildlife photos, while visits to local communities give you real insight into traditional life here. You'll find everything from high-end lodges to well-appointed tented camps, with many places actively supporting local conservation projects.
Discover Uganda tours for every budget
Looking for solid value in Uganda? The 3-day gorilla tracking safaris take you straight to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with a nice bonus stop at the equator for photos along the way. If you've got a week to spare, many of our customers go for the 7-day option that adds chimp tracking through Kibale's jungle paths. The longer 10-11 day tours pack in even more: you'll track rhinos at Ziwa Sanctuary and cruise the wildlife-rich Kazinga Channel. The accommodations really stand out for budget tours - we regularly hear from travelers who can't believe the quality of the lodges and tented camps given the reasonable prices.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Autumn creates perfect conditions for exploring Uganda's diverse regions. Our comprehensive 10-day tours cover everything from watching hippos in the Kazinga Channel to following gorilla tracks through mountain forests. The 8-day tours focus on both primates and big cats - you'll meet gorillas and chimps while looking for lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Mukisa Safaris, run by Richard, gets consistently great feedback for how well they handle everything - from putting together custom trips to sorting things out when travel plans hit a snag. The guides there, like Veronica, Joan and also Allen, really know their stuff and help visitors connect with both the wildlife and local culture in meaningful ways. If you're watching your budget, Enchanted Uganda Safaris is worth looking into. Their lead guide Bosco has earned solid reviews for running well-organized trips that still feel personal. They manage to deliver a proper safari experience without the premium price tag that some operators charge. Both companies are reliable choices - it really comes down to your specific budget and what kind of experience you're after. Mukisa tends to be more high-end with lots of customization, while Enchanted Uganda offers good value without cutting corners on the important stuff.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Uganda offers two main tour types that our travelers really connect with. The longer journeys run 10 days, taking you from gorilla tracking in Bwindi's forests to watching rhinos at Ziwa sanctuary and up to the rushing waters of Murchison Falls. If you're short on time, the 6-day tours zero in on primates - you'll spend quality time with gorilla families and watch chimps play through Kyambura Gorge's tree canopy. The dry winter conditions make hiking more manageable and bring wildlife closer to water sources. Our guides know the perfect spots for morning game drives when animals come out to start their day.
