- Best of Iceland
Iceland was on my bucket list for many years. I was finally able to tick it off last year. I didn't know much about Iceland and maybe that's why I was so in awe during the trip. I've recommended this G Adventures trip to everyone who has asked me.

It was an amazing adventure, I enjoyed it every day.

Have used Intrepid for over 7 trips and loved every single one ran by them exclusively. Amazing local guides and staff.

Iceland, the Land of Ice and Fire, boasts natural wonders best explored on a hiking tour. Whether you’re wandering wherever the wind takes you or sticking to a renowned trail like Laugavegur, Iceland is an absolutely unmissable destination.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursIf you're looking for active days but prefer a proper bed each night, our Ring Road adventures hit the sweet spot. The popular 6-day tour combines glacier hiking in Vatnajökull National Park with whale watching from Dalvík - and yes, you'll likely spot humpbacks! Our travelers love how varied each day is, from crawling through lava caves to relaxing in the Mývatn Nature Baths. Winter brings chances to see the northern lights, while summer's midnight sun lets us pack even more into each day. The guides get lots of praise for keeping everyone safe and knowing when to switch plans if the weather turns. You'll need decent fitness, but it's perfect if you want to experience Iceland's natural wonders without carrying heavy backpacks or sleeping in basic huts.
See all Active toursTake in the picturesque landscapes and remarkable sights on a guided Coach / Bus adventure of Iceland. There are 62 vacation packages to choose from, that range in length from 3 days up to 17 days. The most popular month for these tours is September.
See all Coach / Bus toursOur most popular explorer tours take you on complete circuits around Iceland, giving you a proper feel for the country's diverse terrain. The 6-day Around Iceland tour has become a favorite with our travelers - you'll walk on Vatnajökull's glaciers and watch humpback whales break the surface near Dalvík. What works really well is how we mix the must-see Golden Circle with quieter spots like the Mývatn Nature Baths and Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall. The guides have perfected the timing for each stop to dodge the busy periods and find the best light for photos, especially when hunting the Northern Lights in winter.

Top operators in Iceland
Looking at these three major Iceland tour companies, each has their own strengths but also some things to watch out for. Arctic Adventures gets consistently good feedback for their guides - people often mention Jonas, Frimann and AEvar Omarsson by name. These guides seem to handle tough weather really well and find ways to make tours work even when conditions aren't perfect. BusTravel Iceland runs a solid operation with comfortable coaches and professional guides who know their stuff. Their tours generally run smoothly, but there's a bit of frustration when it comes to Northern Lights tours - specifically how they handle rescheduling when the lights don't show up. Troll Expeditions, which you'll find on TourRadar, has built quite a reputation for adapting tours based on Iceland's famously changeable weather. Their guides Johann Kari, Gylfi and also Davið get mentioned a lot in traveler feedback for really knowing how to show off Iceland's best spots. One thing to note about Arctic Adventures - while their actual tours are great, they could improve their communication before tours start, and some travelers weren't too happy with their refund policies. It's worth reading the fine print there before booking. What makes these companies stand out is how their guides handle Iceland's unpredictable conditions. They know when to adjust routes, find alternate viewing spots and make smart calls about weather - that's really what you need in a place like Iceland where conditions can change quickly.

"The guide Vignir was amazing, very knowledgeable, very open, very organized and informative and super nice. The trip was an absolute success and I loved it. Before the activities I would've wanted more communication from the organizers, in terms of information about the itinerary, pick-up, drop-off, accommodation etc.

Best places to start your Iceland tour
Most people join our Iceland trips starting in Reykjavik, with 60 tours beginning there and another 37 departing from Keflavik near the international airport. We also run some specialized tours from Thingvellir National Park and Egilsstadir in the east. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your dates about 4 months (125 days) ahead since Iceland tours fill up fast - especially in peak season when popular dates can go even earlier. Our travelers tell us summer tours let you explore every corner of the country, while winter brings special chances to check out ice caves and watch for the Northern Lights. Small groups mean you get quality time with local guides who know all the cultural bits and hidden spots. For good deals and fewer crowds, think about May or September when the weather's still nice but the peak crowds haven't arrived or have already left.
Discover Iceland tours for every budget
The 3-day winter packages combine Golden Circle sites with Northern Lights viewing - they're consistently rated highly by our budget-conscious travelers. You'll see the continental divide at Þingvellir, watch Strokkur geyser's reliable eruptions, take in Gullfoss waterfall and explore South Coast gems like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. What makes these tours especially good value is getting a second shot at seeing the aurora if conditions aren't right the first night. Our guides know exactly when to visit spots to avoid the crowds and where to get the best photos. The buses come equipped with solid Wi-Fi and comfortable seats for those longer drives between locations.
Our Premium Iceland and private luxury tours focus on intimate experiences of the landscape. You'll rest your head in select properties like Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon, where walls of glass showcase mountain and ocean views. The experiences go beyond standard stops - you'll dine at Reykjavik's top restaurants exploring local cuisine and take private whale watching trips in Eyjafjörður. Many clients particularly enjoy meeting local artists in Grundarfjordur to learn stone carving techniques or taking time to soak in the exclusive Sky Lagoon with its ocean panoramas. Our guides time each visit perfectly - often arriving at popular spots during golden hour for ideal photography.

Many of our guests pick tours combining Snæfellsnes Peninsula's seals and basalt cliffs with the full Ring Road loop. The routes blend busy spots with quiet ones nicely - maybe a morning at popular Geysir followed by peaceful whale watching in Eyjafjörður near Akureyri. Guides adjust things based on conditions, particularly in winter when they know just where to catch the Northern Lights away from city lights.

The Ring Road in Iceland works exceptionally well for solo travelers, as we've seen with our 10-day discovery tours. You'll stay at welcoming farm stays and guesthouses where meeting other travelers happens naturally over breakfast or evening chats. Our guides handle all the practical details from driving to meals, so you can focus on what matters - like taking that glacier boat ride or joining a morning horse trek. The groups always include other independent travelers, and there's something special about sharing moments like a sudden geyser eruption or spotting a whale breach off the northern shores with your new travel friends.
Our 7-11 day Ring Road journeys really click with younger travelers who want to mix classic sites with active experiences. You'll get moving with proper glacier hikes and venture into natural ice caves, then take it easy at spots like the Beer Spa or slip into the warm waters of Mývatn Nature Baths. The schedule flows nicely between planned activities and random discoveries - maybe it's a wild reindeer sighting in the east or catching that perfect Diamond Beach sunset. Our groups stay small, usually 8-16 people, which keeps things social and lets us adapt easily. The guides know exactly when to visit popular spots to avoid crowds and where to find those secret waterfalls that aren't in the guidebooks.
Our discovery tours really suit mature travelers who want to see Iceland properly without rushing. These 8-10 day circuits cover all the key sites at a comfortable pace - you'll see the Golden Circle and float among the icebergs at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon with plenty of time for photos and taking it all in. The accommodations are carefully chosen for comfort and our guides love sharing their knowledge of local history and geology. The small groups of 12-16 people tend to bond quickly over shared interests in nature, photography and cultural stories. Our travelers often tell us how much they enjoy exploring with like-minded people who appreciate a well-planned journey without feeling rushed.

Fall paints Iceland in autumn colors and brings more Northern Lights chances as nights get longer. Our 6-8 day Ring Road tours mix the main sites with seasonal treats like spotting wild reindeer in the East Fjords or gathering berries on the Troll Peninsula. You can still hike and enjoy outdoor activities while dealing with fewer tourists at major spots. The photography gets really good in fall - that low sun creates perfect conditions at Kirkjufell mountain and Reynisfjara's black beaches. Many travelers pick fall tours specifically to see both the classic sites and Northern Lights without dealing with deep winter weather and also conditions.
