What people love about Switzerland Tours
- Best of Switzerland
Good, but there was definitely a lack of information given to folk on the tour. As in what to wear, how strenuous it's going to be ... etc.
- Contrasts of Switzerland (8 Days)
We think the tour of Switzerland using the train system is the best way to see the beauty of the country. It's efficient and faster and more direct than driving or taking a bus. Our guide, Stephanie Bahr was outstanding and made the tour a great and informative experience. Our group of 48 was a very workable size and composed of wonderful people from the US, Australia, New Zealand and England. The pleasant disposition of all of them was an additional highlight of this trip. Trafalgar does a very thorough job organizing the entire experience.
- Contrasts of Switzerland (8 Days)
Very happy with all parts of the tour
Most popular destinations in Switzerland
The Alps truly mix up different experiences, from relaxing train rides through Switzerland's mountain passes to active outdoor sports in Slovenia's valleys. Our customers love combining the GoldenPass and Glacier Express routes, where guides share local stories and point out interesting features as the landscapes roll by. The Soca Valley has turned into quite a hotspot for those wanting some real action - you can go rafting through rapids and canyoning down gorges, with nice comfortable hotels waiting at day's end. If you head to the Mediterranean side, you can blend coastal walks in the Italian Riviera with time exploring Nice, Monaco and also Barcelona. We've noticed many travelers wish they had more time around Lake Como and Venice when doing Swiss-Italian tours, but they do appreciate how the trips balance mountain views with cultural stops. Summer visitors generally find June through August best for hiking, while September's quieter trails and soft light make photographers happy. For winter sports, December through March sees the slopes at their best, and our travelers often mention how mountain villages feel extra special under a blanket of snow.
See all Alps toursThe Swiss Alps showcase incredible Michelin-star dining right in small mountain villages like Kandersteg, where local chefs create meals that easily match urban restaurants' quality. A standout touch that our guests mention often is the thoughtfully prepared trail lunches, served with perfect timing at scenic spots - it really elevates a regular hike into something memorable. The Haute Route perfectly demonstrates how Swiss attention to detail meets mountain grandeur, with skilled guides leading intimate groups along routes that connect the region's finest peaks and valleys. Summer brings carpets of wildflowers and exceptional visibility, while winter delivers ideal conditions for both skiing and snowshoe explorations. Many of our clients particularly enjoy visiting in late spring or early autumn, when there's more space on the trails and you can watch the alpine meadows change with the seasons.

Here you'll see how local cheese makers work their magic using methods that go back generations. The mountain paths through Bern take you past Einstein's favorite spots and the detailed 15th-century Zytglogge clock tower. Our travelers really like riding the steepest cogwheel train up Mount Pilatus, then walking the First Cliff - a clever piece of engineering that lets you step right onto the mountain face. When you reach the Jungfrau area, you're in for quite a day of mountain transport - up to 8 different train rides that connect you to high Alpine views and car-free villages like Murren and also Wengen. From what our travelers tell us, Cosmos and Globus stand out for their solid organization and guides - Marco and Tunde get mentioned often in the positive feedback. If you're looking at Switzerland specifically though, there's a bit of a mixed bag. Intrepid's "Best of Switzerland" tour hasn't quite hit the mark lately, with several customers noting issues with guide expertise and hotels that vary too much in quality. For a more intimate experience, Insight Vacations runs smaller groups where guides like Sue, Daniele and also Helen consistently earn high marks from our customers. They seem to really understand how to balance scheduled activities with personal attention. Trafalgar's "Contrasts of Switzerland" offers a comfortable train journey with nice hotels, but we've heard from several travelers who felt the guide interaction could be better. The accommodation quality is definitely there, but the personal connection some travelers look for seems to be missing at times. The big difference seems to come down to the guides - when you have someone like Marco or Sue leading the way, it adds so much more to the experience. They know those little details and hidden spots that turn a regular tour into something special.

You'll ride a rotating gondola up Mount Titlis for glacier views. These trips shine by mixing famous places with local spots - one day you're watching cheese being made in Grindelwald, the next you're at Europe's highest railway station. Our customers often mention loving how they can do guided activities but still have time to wander through mountain villages like Wengen and also Grindelwald on their own.

Switzerland's rail tours really click with couples looking for both structure and freedom to explore. The 8-day St. Moritz and Zermatt route lets you ride the famous Glacier Express as it crosses over 291 bridges and through the scenic Oberalp Pass. You'll stop for included mountain-view lunches, with plenty of time to wander together between scheduled activities. Many couples who travel with us love the cultural focus of our Swiss routes - you can visit traditional cheese makers in Gruyères, see how chocolate is crafted in Broc and take evening walks through towns that look straight out of medieval times. We've also got tours that mix in unique local experiences, from meeting Swiss beekeepers to taking private cruises on crystal-clear lakes and dining at family-run restaurants tucked into the mountains. The real charm comes from having time to both join guided activities and explore on your own - whether that means strolling Lucerne's wooden bridges or taking a sunset cable car ride just for two.
Our active Swiss tours keep young travelers moving while letting them pick their pace. One popular 7-day route combines proper hiking in the Bernese Alps with chances to walk the cliff paths in Grindelwald and ride Europe's steepest cogwheel train which tackles gradients up to 48%. Around Interlaken, you can fill your days with paragliding, canyoning or mountain biking, then explore traditional villages at your own speed. For serious trekkers, the multi-day Haute Route delivers real mountain challenges - you'll climb nearly 3,000 meters daily and sleep in authentic Alpine huts. Many younger guests tell us they love how the tours mix scenic train rides during the day with lively evenings in Swiss towns. The schedules usually include free time to discover Zurich, Geneva and other cities solo or join extra activities that catch your interest.
Our senior travelers appreciate tours that take it easy without missing out on Swiss culture and scenery. The rail-based routes are especially popular since you won't need to handle luggage between stops. One well-rated option includes extended stays in lakeside hotels, gentle guided walks through historic districts and optional mountain trips when you're feeling energetic. Food lovers enjoy tours focused on Swiss traditions - you'll meet cheese artisans, visit family wine makers and learn chocolate-making secrets while staying in hotels chosen for their good locations and reliable elevators. The thermal spas at Les Bains de Lavey and boat rides on Lake Geneva get high marks from our older guests. Our guides are skilled at matching the walking pace to the group and finding quiet spots where you can rest and take in those Alpine views. If you want to skip the more active parts, you'll still see plenty of mountain scenery from comfortable viewpoints.

You can mix exploring Zurich's Old Town with a ride up Mount Pilatus on the world's steepest cogwheel train. From there it's on to Grindelwald for walks on the First Cliff path and a visit to Europe's highest railway station. The Lake Geneva area works beautifully in spring - you'll visit medieval Gruyères for cheese tasting and also take boat trips when the lakes are perfectly calm.

You can blend cultural visits to places like the Cailler chocolate factory and La Maison du Gruyère cheese dairy with outdoor activities including the dramatic First Cliff walk. Winter wraps Switzerland's best spots in snow and holiday charm. The Magical Switzerland tour really delivers with Christmas markets, mountain trains and snow-dusted peaks. There's a fantastic wellness-focused option that pairs thermal spa visits with snow activities at Mount Titlis - you can explore ice caves there and take the 'Ice Flyer' chairlift right over the glaciers.
