I was in Taiwan on my solo trip. After checking out of my hotel at 11.30 am, I got a message that my flight was delayed by 5 hours. I was elated as I got a few more hours to roam around the beautiful city of Taipei, but I had to keep my luggage somewhere. There, among the many boons and banes, technology became a savior for travelers like us. Suddenly, my experience in Europe flashed in mind that I realized there must be luggage storage rental services in Asia as well. Well, luckily I got to know about Lalalocker, my savior. It was cheap as well and they operate out of salons, restaurants, cafes and many other common locations along the metro. I kept it in Ludique creme. However, these services recommend you not to keep expensive items in your luggage, just in case. So, keep a small backpack handy to carry your expensive stuff with you before ditching your luggage. This service of Lalalocker in Taiwan made my day! Nice service.
- Taiwan Express
We enjoyed seeing Taiwan but much of the time our guide (Alan Chow) spent on irrelevant information (how to use the toilet, how many lunch/dinner options, etc) could have been spent explaining where we were and what we could see through the coach windows. Quality of accommodation was mixed, some seem to have 5-star awards but these awards were not matched with the quality of service provided. We disagreed with Alan's explanation that as there were so many similarities between Taipei and Tainan (the first capital) there was no need to visit Tainan.
- Around Formosa Taiwan
This tour was magnificent, from the moment we arrived everything ran like clock work. We literally found our guide straight away and transfered by rail to the central station, where we took the bullet train to Tainan. Hotels were some of the best hotels i've stayed in, in the whole world, very impressive and the food is to die for.
Travel Taiwan your way
Taiwan really opens up to travelers who want to dig deeper into local life. Our explorer tours take you right into the action on Dihua Street in Taipei, where you'll see old shophouses getting a fresh spin from young business owners. What makes these tours special are the hands-on experiences - you'll cook traditional pancakes in Yilan, pick up hunting skills from Atayal tribe members and create your own peanut roll ice cream from scratch. Tea lovers particularly enjoy rolling their own leaves at Hugosum Tea Farm, usually combined with visits to local temples. Our guide Lily gets great feedback for showing both the big attractions and little-known spots, sharing stories that bring Taiwan's culture to life. Food enthusiasts can learn dumpling-making secrets in Taipei and then head south to Tainan, a city that doesn't get enough credit for its amazing seafood and local specialties.

SuperValue stands out as a top choice for Taiwan tours based on what our travelers tell us. Their attention to detail really shows - from picking quality hotels to planning great meal stops along the way. Guides like Andrew, Hui Liang and especially Iping consistently get mentioned in the positive feedback we receive. If you're looking for something with a more local angle, Intrepid runs solid small-group tours. They're good at getting you into neighborhoods and spots that bigger tours often miss, and their guides tend to be locals who know their stuff. We've had some mixed signals about Delightful Travel lately. While some travelers enjoy their tours, others have reported that what they got didn't quite match what was advertised. There have also been some hiccups with schedules and getting clear answers from their team. If you're considering them, it's worth double-checking the specific details of your tour package beforehand. The most consistent positive feedback comes from SuperValue's customers - they seem to nail the basics while adding those extra touches that make a trip memorable. Their guides know how to handle both the planned activities and those unexpected moments that pop up during any tour.

"There wasn’t much to see or do in the eleven days. For what there is to do, the itinerary should be shortened to seven days maximum. The typhoon prediction caused cancellations that weren’t necessary because we hardly got any rain. All in all I wouldn’t recommend this tour.

"Everything was great: visits, transport, restaurants, hotels. The only thing that could get better was the guide, L.W., who was far more interested in food then in culture, and made us spent twice as long time sipping coffee at the Grand Hotel then visiting the National Palace Museum. When I told her: "Please, let's finally go to this museum, only an hour is left now before the closure, and this is labelled a "cultural trip"; she said: "Well, im my view it is not a cultural trip but a trip by train". Disappointing.

Best places to start your Taiwan tour
Looking at recent bookings, Taipei is clearly the go-to starting point with 36 of our customer trips kicking off from the capital. A handful of travelers begin in Kaohsiung or Taoyuan instead - just two departures each from these cities. We've found booking about 45 days ahead hits the sweet spot for getting your preferred dates and places to stay. Our customers often mention doing extra homework on hotels pays off, since ratings in some areas don't tell the whole story. Getting around is surprisingly simple - grab a high-speed rail pass and mix it with local transport to reach everything from city centers to quiet mountain spots. The extensive train system and efficient public transit make exploring a breeze. Don't skip the night markets - they consistently top our travelers' highlight lists with amazing local food and also genuine cultural immersion you just can't find anywhere else.

12 tours in TaiwanPrivate tours in Taiwan give you amazing flexibility to explore at your own pace. Our most successful itineraries blend cultural immersion with outdoor activities - you might start your morning making Hakka pounded tea in Miaoli before cycling through Taitung's Forest Park later that day. These tours work especially well for families and small groups who want to dig deeper into local life. You can spend time learning about Seediq culture in the mysterious Meixi tribe area and get hands-on with traditional crafts in Sanxia. Our travelers particularly enjoy the freedom to linger at spots like Jiufen's tea houses or adjust hiking plans in Taroko Gorge based on weather and energy levels. The private guides really make these tours special - they'll help you discover hidden temples in Lugang's winding alleys and know exactly when to visit Qixingtan Beach for the best sunset views over the Pacific.

A week in southern Taiwan really lets you get under the skin of this unique region. Our popular 7-day route kicks off in Taipei before heading south, mixing cycling with local food discoveries. You'll paddle tidal rivers near Kenting, kayak past towering cliffs and start your mornings with swims at Baisha Beach - yes, the same one from Life of Pi. The variety keeps things interesting: one day you're cycling 40km along the coast, then you're hiking through the national park spotting monkeys and eagles. The tour winds down with beach time and spa visits in Kaohsiung.

See all toursTen days in Taiwan gives you the complete picture, which is why these tours rate so highly. Starting in Taipei, you'll head to Sun Moon Lake for boat trips and mountain temple visits. The journey continues through Tainan's historic streets and Fort Zeelandia, then down to Kenting National Park for coastal walks. What makes these tours work is how they blend the must-see spots with genuine cultural moments - you'll stay in indigenous villages, learn about Rukai tribe traditions, experience tea culture in Pinglin District and also send lanterns skyward in Pingxi. One of our guests mentioned how their guide Alan kept everything on track even when a typhoon meant quick thinking and replanning.

Demographics
Our solo travelers really connect with small-group tours where 8-12 people explore together, giving you both social time and space to do your own thing. Guides like Lily Wang and Vincent Chiang get great feedback for how they tune into each person's interests while keeping the group flowing. The routes work well - you'll explore Taipei's night markets, join cooking classes and take scenic train rides to Sun Moon Lake where you can cycle the shoreline or learn traditional tea rolling. What works especially well is how the days blend guided activities with free evenings, plus sharing real local meals with your group at places like the original Din Tai Fung.
Our Taiwan couples' tours blend elevated experiences with heartfelt cultural moments. Imagine sharing a private tea ceremony in a historic home above the Pacific near Jiufen, or soaking in your own hot spring bath at The Lalu as lake views stretch before you. The tours balance guided discoveries with free evenings, letting couples wander night markets and discover local flavors at their own pace. From early morning paddleboarding on Lotus Lake, where temple reflections dance on the water, to cycling side-by-side along Qixingtan's coast where mountains tumble into ocean, couples find countless intimate moments. Our travelers tell us they appreciate the thoughtful rhythm - there's time to unwind in Taroko National Park's rooftop spas after canyon hikes, and connect with local families over home-cooked meals. The dining experiences range from Din Tai Fung's original location to secluded indigenous-style lunches, and also peaceful morning visits to popular attractions before other visitors arrive.
The active tours hit just right for younger travelers who want to move. You'll cycle 35-40km daily through Meinong's quiet countryside, paddle board on Lotus Lake and hike through Kenting National Park. Recent guests tell us they love how each day mixes physical activity with local culture - morning rides past remote temples and rice paddies, then afternoons diving into night markets and food traditions. There's plenty of swimming at spots like Baisha Beach and kayaking along tidal rivers. What makes these tours click with younger travelers is the daily variety and real local connections, like sharing meals with indigenous communities.
Taiwan opens up beautifully for our senior travelers, with train journeys that connect the whole island at just the right pace. Our guide Vincent - who's gotten fantastic feedback from a group of 75-year-olds last month - really knows how to adjust the walking speed and explain everything clearly. You'll find the lakeside paths at Sun Moon Lake particularly easy to navigate; they're wheelchair-friendly and lead right to some fascinating temples. We've picked hotels that make sense for older travelers, with good access features and locations that put you close to the main sights. The cultural experiences really shine on these tours - you'll sit down with tea masters who'll show you the traditional preparation methods, catch the precise movements of the guard changing ceremonies and explore the National Palace Museum with guides who bring the artifacts to life. When it comes to food, you can choose your comfort level from elegant restaurants to gentle explorations of night market specialties with tables reserved at the quieter spots.

- Spring 2025
Spring brings cherry blossoms and perfect temperatures for our most active tours. The Taste of Taiwan by Train series gets fantastic feedback for mixing cultural sites with outdoor activities - you'll cycle around Sun Moon Lake in the morning mist and release sky lanterns in Shifen by sunset. Our travelers especially love the spring tea-picking experiences at Hugosum Tea Farm, where you'll learn to roll your own leaves just as local farmers have done for generations. Walking tours through Taipei's oldest street, Dihua, come alive in spring as young entrepreneurs revitalize historic shophouses. The Indigenous Atayal tribe visits are particularly meaningful this time of year, with opportunities to learn traditional hunting techniques and cook bamboo rice in the forest.

Summer tours focus on Taiwan's beautiful coastline and mountain retreats. Our customers particularly enjoy the East Coast routes, combining visits to Qixingtan's striking beach with peaceful rides along ocean-view cycling paths. The paddleboarding sessions on Lotus Lake at dawn get great reviews - you'll glide past temples and pagodas before the heat sets in. Mountain tours to Alishan provide relief from summer temperatures, with early morning forest hikes to spot cypress trees and unique wildlife. Food tours take on a different flavor in summer, with night market visits becoming the highlight as locals come out to enjoy evening breezes and street food specialties.

Fall brings comfortable temperatures and clear skies, perfect for our most comprehensive island tours. Many travelers choose multi-city itineraries that combine Taipei's cultural sites with Tainan's incredible food scene and Kaohsiung's modern art spaces. The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas look especially good against fall foliage, while the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum offers peaceful moments between city explorations. Our hiking tours through Taroko Gorge get particularly good reviews in autumn, though you'll want to check current conditions given recent changes. Fall is also prime time for tea experiences - you can visit multiple growing regions as the weather turns cooler and sample fresh harvests right at the source.

Winter tours in Taiwan lean heavily into cultural experiences and indoor activities to escape the cooler temperatures. Our food-focused tours are particularly popular, starting with cooking classes in Taipei where you'll learn to make traditional dumplings and xiaolongbao. Travelers love combining visits to the steamy Yangmingshan hot springs with tea ceremonies in Jiufen's century-old teahouses. For nature enthusiasts, the Alishan Forest Railway offers cozy train rides through misty mountain forests, while cycling tours around Sun Moon Lake take advantage of the cooler weather for comfortable rides. Many of our customers particularly enjoy the whisky tasting sessions at Kavalan Distillery followed by traditional arts workshops - it's a great way to stay warm while getting hands-on with local culture.
