      Swakopmund to Sesriem (350km)

      You can try morning activities in Swakopmund like quad biking or sandboarding before leaving at 11:30 AM. The route crosses vast gravel plains and mountain passes including Kuiseb Canyon.       Windhoek to Sossusvlei

      Leave Windhoek early for the 5-hour drive to Sossusvlei. You'll see the landscape transform as you go, so have your camera ready. "The drive itself was part of the experience - watching the terrain change from bush to desert was incredible," one traveler shared. Plan to arrive at Solitaire Lodge before sunset to get a good night's rest for tomorrow's early start.

      Sossusvlei Dunes

      Get up around 4:30 AM to reach Dune 45 for sunrise when the sand is still cool enough to climb. Make sure to wear closed shoes with good grip because the sand gets very hot by mid-morning. After Dune 45, check out the ancient camel thorn trees at Dead Vlei. If you still have energy, climb Big Daddy dune. End your day at Sesriem Canyon when the temperature drops in late afternoon.

      Sossusvlei to Swakopmund

      The drive to the coast takes about 4 hours. Stop at Walvis Bay's lagoon during high tide to see thousands of flamingos. You'll reach Swakopmund by afternoon, where the coastal breeze offers a nice break from the desert heat. Your campsite is on the edge of town, close to the German colonial buildings.

      Windhoek & Wildlife Sanctuary

      Land at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek before noon to get the most from your first day. The N/a'an ku se Wildlife Sanctuary sits 50km east of the city.
