What people love about Transylvania Tours
- Transylvania Castles tour in 4 days from Bucharest
We visited the most important medieval castles in Transylvania. The time past super fast in these 4 days. highly rocommend it
- Dracula beyond the legend - 8 day private tour to Transylvania
The landscapes were amazing, Romania has for sure something very wild and mysterious with all those wooded mountains and strong medieval constructions. A nice touch was including the tour Iulia Hasdeu Castle, not a medieval one but with a beautiful-sad story which impressed us all.

Fantastic and adventurous three day trip thru Romania. We‘ve passed a lot of awesome places, castles and landscapes. Everything was organised very well. Beginning from the pick up at the Airport until the drop off at the Airport on the last day. Florin is a very kind and chatty Tour Guide. I learned a lot of new things. It was an amazing trip. Thank you !

Top operators in Transylvania
Based on the reviews from TourRadar, four tour companies really stand out for Romanian travel and each brings something special to the table. Travel Talk and Explore! get loads of positive feedback about their guides - you'll get proper experts who know Romanian history inside out and actually make it interesting. They're friendly too, which makes a big difference when you're spending days together. If you're particular about comfortable travel between sites, Rolandia Tours seems to have that sorted - their transport gets consistently good marks from travelers. Romanian Thrills does a great job with the planning side of things; they communicate well and leave no detail to chance. What's nice about all these operators is how they've structured their Transylvania routes. The itineraries make sense logically and you get real Romanian experiences rather than just tourist spots. Our customers often mention how they appreciated getting beyond the surface level and actually understanding the culture, especially in Transylvania where there's so much history and local tradition to take in. The guides seem to make the difference here - they're not just showing you around, they're helping you understand what you're seeing and why it matters in Romanian culture. It's clear these companies have put in the work to create tours that feel authentic and well thought out.

"My husband and I had a lovely trip. David our guide was lovely and fulfilled all our requests. Even though it was supposed to be a small group tour, my husband and I were lucky enough to be the only ones in the tour. The hotels provided were clean & comfortable. We did pay extra to upgrade to a better room in the hotel in Brasov, as it was too small and we felt cramped. This is the second time we have used Tourradar, and we happy with our trip 😊

Our travelers really like how we mix scheduled activities with free time to explore places like Brasov's historic center or Sighisoara's winding streets on their own terms.

It's these genuine connections that make the experience special.

Our travelers especially value being able to adjust the pace and spend more time at places that catch their interest.
Top Transylvania travel itineraries to fit your plans
If you've got just 3 days to explore Transylvania, there are some really solid tour options to consider. Many travelers choose routes combining Peles Castle's neo-Renaissance architecture with medieval Bran Castle - our customers particularly like how these tours schedule castle visits in the morning hours. Afternoons often bring different experiences, like tracking actual brown bears in their natural environment near Brasov. Some itineraries take you deep into Europe's largest salt mine at Unirea before heading to UNESCO-listed Sighisoara, where the 14th-century Clock Tower stands watch over winding cobblestone streets. The village of Viscri offers authentic encounters with local craftspeople and excellent examples of Saxon architecture that even caught Prince Charles' eye.

A week in Transylvania lets you really get to know Romania's culture and landscapes. Tours typically begin in Bucharest, then wind through Sibiu's medieval center and into rural areas where you'll stay in family guesthouses. Our guests especially love getting hands-on - they'll help bake traditional Saxon bread and join guided wildlife tracking through Carpathian forests. Many tours include special evening activities like the theatrical "Ritual of Killing of the Living Dead" and local folk performances. For cyclists, daily routes cover 34-55km through Piatra Craiului National Park and quiet valleys, with guides who know exactly when to suggest switching to e-bikes on challenging uphill sections.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Budapest, Timisoara, Turda, Sibiu, Sighisoara, Brasov, Bran, Zarnesti, Sinaia, Bucharest
Ten days gives you time to pair Transylvania with the fascinating Maramures region. These extended trips include distinctive stops like Sapanta's Merry Cemetery, where colorful carved crosses tell stories about those who rest there. You'll explore Cluj-Napoca's varied architecture styles before heading to villages where traditional crafts remain very much alive. Our travelers appreciate how these longer tours offer more flexibility - whether taking extra time to photograph the winding Transfagarasan Highway or joining a local family for lunch near Biertan's fortified church, which holds UNESCO status.

Demographics
Our solo travelers really connect with specialized Transylvania tours that mix cultural depth and personal discovery. The 4-day castle circuit works perfectly for independent explorers - you get quality time with guides who know every detail about Vlad the Impaler's links to Bran Castle and Brasov's Saxon roots. There's also a fantastic 7-day route through village communities where you'll share meals with local families and watch craftspeople at work. What our customers particularly value is having their evenings free to discover historic places like Sighisoara independently, while knowing their guide is there if needed.
Our couples tours through Transylvania blend intimate castle visits with real cultural moments. A major highlight is the private evening access to Bran Castle - it's quite special walking those torch-lit corridors together once all other visitors have gone. Many couples choose to stay in small boutique hotels within medieval walls, perfect for evening walks through old town streets. Our travelers tell us they love having all the planning taken care of while still getting plenty of private moments, whether they're enjoying village meals or watching the sun set over Brasov's main square.
The active tours through the Carpathians combine cycling with genuine cultural immersion, running 7-8 days between medieval towns and tucked-away villages. You'll ride both paved roads and forest paths, with e-bikes available for the steeper sections. Each day mixes cycling with visits to local workshops, family homes for traditional cooking and also fascinating salt mines. The evenings often feature local music and wine cellar tastings, which naturally brings the group together.
Our small-group tours for senior travelers move at just the right pace while covering all the essential sites. We plan these routes carefully with 3-4 nights in each place to avoid rushing between hotels. The guides pay special attention to walking surfaces and access at fortress sites and medieval centers. Many guests choose tours featuring village cart rides, UNESCO heritage churches and plenty of local encounters. They appreciate having some meals planned at quality restaurants while keeping the freedom to explore dining options on their own.

Summer's long days let us pack plenty into our Transylvania tours - you get castle visits, village exploration and outdoor activities all in one. The cycling routes are particularly good now, especially through Piatra Craiului National Park and rural backroads. Many of our guests love how we mix things up - you might start at Corvin Castle in the morning then spend your afternoon hiking mountain paths or meeting rescued bears at the Libearty sanctuary. - Fall / Autumn 2025
Fall brings out Transylvania's character with medieval towns framed by the Carpathians' autumn colors. Our travelers often join in with harvest activities in the villages - helping collect grapes for wine or preparing traditional winter preserves with local families. The cultural visits get special touches this time of year with private access to historic buildings, tastings in ancient wine cellars and visits to working artisan workshops. You'll see lots of traditional craft demonstrations at the ASTRA Village Museum, and our guests tell us how much they enjoy exploring Sighisoara's winding cobbled streets and climbing castle towers surrounded by fall foliage.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter really shines for cultural touring in Transylvania when the big crowds thin out. Our small groups get to explore Peles Castle, Bran Castle and other sites with much more space to themselves. The medieval towns look particularly good with a dusting of snow - you'll get excellent photos in Brasov's Council Square and walking across Sibiu's Bridge of Lies. Many of our travelers tell us how the Gothic chambers of Bran Castle feel properly atmospheric in winter, especially during our private after-hours visits when you practically have the whole place to yourself. The early sunsets and crisp air really add to that mysterious castle mood.
