What people love about Austria And Italy Tours
- Munich, Austrian Alps, Dolomites in a Porsche: Pre-set sat-nav guided
Absolute must. Everything from beginning to end was top notch. Stephan's availability and commitment to making this an extraordinary experience was much appreciated. With very short notice he was able to put together a tailored trip to meet all of our requirements.
- Munich, Austrian Alps, Dolomites in a Porsche: Pre-set sat-nav guided
With this guided tour, we felt like we were locals. We navigated through great scenic points and great restaurants. Definitely a great memory of a lifetime!
- Classical Italy and Eastern Capitals (10 destinations)
Overall, the tour is great but the hotels in Florence and Venice definitely need to be changed as they are very old and cold hotels. Other than that, the last tour guide whose name is Abdel Salem, he is very very very very informative guide but it was so repetitive and he kept saying always 'eh' in after every word on mic and that made him not easy to understand, but he is a definitely good man. Also, Cheers to Antonio that he is very fun guide to travel with. Thank you Ali
Travel Austria and Italy your way
If you're looking to hike across the Alps between Austria and Italy, we've got some excellent routes mapped out. The route from Garmisch-Partenkirchen takes you through the remarkable Partnachklamm gorge - there's something special about walking next to waterfalls that crash through 80-meter deep rock walls. Many of our clients opt for the Oberstdorf route, which includes crossing Austria's highest footbridge at Holzgau. It's quite an experience to walk above the Lechtal Alps on this engineering achievement. For those who want a real challenge, there's the Timmelsjoch pass route at 2,500 meters, following old smuggler paths into Italy's Passeiertal valley. If you prefer an easier pace, consider going from Villach to Trieste - the paths are clear and well-maintained through Val Canale's untouched forests and meadows. Our customers particularly like the final leg through Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where you walk past vineyards before reaching the sea.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursThe bike routes linking Munich to the Italian lakes offer something special for cyclists. The Alpe-Adria stretch from Villach to Trieste follows smooth paths through the Canal Valley, while the Munich to Lake Garda route lets you experience both alpine peaks and Italian wine country as you pedal through the Dolomites. You'll cover about 14-20 kilometers daily, with nice stops at mountain lakes and old towns along the way. Our riders love how the route connects three distinct areas: traditional Bavarian villages, Austrian mountain meadows and Italian lakeside spots. The GPS system we provide means you can ride at whatever pace suits you best while still catching all the good stuff along the route.
See all Bicycle toursOur explorer route through Western and Central Europe really shines when it comes to food discoveries. Travelers start with mountain walks around Innsbruck and Lake Misurina before diving into Venice, Florence and then Rome. The Florence market tours are a highlight - our guests love learning about ingredients right from local experts. What works well is the mix of guided and free time; you'll join evening food walks in Venice but get plenty of time to explore the canals on your own. Our tour leader Andrei gets mentioned often in reviews for making new travelers feel at ease while keeping the whole group engaged and having fun.

Top Austria and Italy travel itineraries to fit your plans
The week-long routes connecting Austria and Italy blend three distinct cultures perfectly. Cycling enthusiasts love the Alpe-Adria path from Villach to Grado, where Italian, German and Slavic influences mix naturally along the way. For hikers, the Oberstdorf to Meran trail crosses the main Alpine ridge with cozy nights in mountain huts, including a stay at the Memminger Hütte sitting at 2,242 meters next to a crystal-clear lake. Families particularly enjoy taking the bike route from Villach to Grado - it follows old railway tracks downhill through Val Canale valley and includes a special section along the Venice lagoon where kids spot local wildlife and plants along the way.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Lienz, San Candido, Berg im Drautal, Spittal an der Drau, Villach
Ten days really lets you experience both countries properly. The Salzburg to Grado journey starts in Mozart's hometown and winds down to the Italian coast, following river valleys through Gastein before taking a scenic train through the Tauern tunnel. Culture lovers often pick the Innsbruck to Venice route, which takes you through South Tyrol's vineyards and past beautiful Renaissance villas near Vicenza. Our clients especially like the Jewels of Italy route with Oberammergau - the two-night stay there makes all the difference instead of rushing through. The guides get lots of praise in feedback for helping out with museum bookings in Florence and finding good solutions for different walking speeds in Venice. You'll find enough free time built in to explore Udine's squares or take a side trip to Padua's thermal baths.

Demographics
Solo travelers connect well with our Western Europe routes linking Venice to the Alps and Rome. There's a good mix of guided experiences plus time to wander on your own. The Venice ghost and food tour combo is a hit - you'll meet other travelers while discovering local spots most tourists miss. Walking through Florence's markets and Rome's neighborhoods makes it easy to connect with others naturally. What makes these routes work is how you can join group dinners when you want company but also have time to explore independently.
Couples often book our music-themed routes through Italy and Austria from Vienna or Rome. You'll get culture and romance - like cruising Traunsee Lake past four castles before dining in Vienna's charming Grinzing quarter. We leave evenings open so you can find intimate restaurants or join optional group activities. The Venice to Budapest section is a favorite; it mixes gondola rides and glass-making demos with relaxing Danube boat trips.
Young travelers love our Classical Symphony routes, especially when they include Budapest. Your day might start at St. Peter's Basilica and end with street food in Florence's old center. The pace keeps things moving with guided walks and free time to check out local bars and cafes. Travelers in their 20s and 30s tell us they like having included experiences like the Murano Glass Factory visit and Danube cruise while still getting time to break away and do their own thing.
Seniors appreciate our Road to Rome tours starting in Paris or London. These well-planned routes include proper time at places like the Vatican Museums and Florence's galleries with guides who share real historical insights. You'll enjoy welcome dinners at local brasseries and wine tastings at family vineyards in Veneto. Our older guests like how we handle all the details but still give enough time to properly see each place without rushing around.
Our family tours from Innsbruck to Venice hit just the right balance with easy cycling and interesting stops. Kids really get into exploring castle grounds and jumping into mountain lakes along the riverside trails. Parents tell us their children love checking out the medieval walls in Glurns and seeing the Iceman exhibit at Bozen's museum. The Innsbruck to Lake Garda route works well too - you can pick fruit at local orchards and spend time at Gardaland theme park. These routes let families decide their own rhythm; take it slow when it's hot or cover more ground when everyone's feeling good.

Best time to visit Austria and Italy
- Spring 2025
Spring comes alive as mountain flowers start blooming and cafe terraces reopen. Our April-May departures let you experience both sides of the Alps - first exploring Rome's ancient sites and Florence's Renaissance art without the crowds, then heading north as mountain passes clear. The Lucerne-to-Vienna routes work especially well in spring when the solar-powered cable car up Mount Stanserhorn runs and local rangers help spot native wildlife. You'll catch prosecco tastings right as family wineries bottle new vintages and see Venice before summer fills the canals.

- Summer 2025
Summer brings long days perfect for exploring from Rome to Budapest. Our travelers love the evening activities - boat rides on the Danube in Budapest, dinner in Vienna's Grinzing wine village and late-night ghost tours through Venice's quiet canals. The mountain sections open up completely; you can take lake cruises past Austrian castles on Traunsee and explore high trails around Kitzbühel. Our guides know how to balance indoor and outdoor time - visiting St. Peter's Basilica early to avoid crowds then spending afternoons in shaded piazzas, mixing cultural sites with cool breaks.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Fall catches Italy and Austria at their most atmospheric. Our travelers follow the wine harvest through Veneto's prosecco country, stopping at family wineries to learn the art of making the perfect Bellini. The mild weather suits city walks - ideal for food tours through Rome's Trastevere district and market visits in Florence. Mountain areas like Innsbruck and Salzburg show their golden colors, while Vienna's parks turn lovely shades of amber. These autumn routes mix food experiences with cultural highlights nicely - start your day at a Viennese coffee house, explore Hofburg Palace and finish at a traditional tavern in the wine hills.
