What people love about Laos Tours
- 6 DAYS HIDDEN GEMS OF LAOS AND MEKONG SERENITY
The tour was excellent. The guides were very professional and very prompt in pick up times. We were made to feel relaxed and not rushed through the tour stops.
- 6 DAYS HIDDEN GEMS OF LAOS AND MEKONG SERENITY
Our guide in Luang Prabang was excellent also the accommodation was excellent with location and cleanliness included foods was very good, however the accommodation in Vientiane was below standard wifi wasn’t workinb during our stay. Driver Mr King in Vientiane was very informative and friendly. It would be fantastic if this tour has more upgrade options in Luang Prabang there is a non-riding elephant conservation full day trip which including cooking class we could have done if there was an option for us to pay and book as a upgrade before the tour starts
- 6 DAYS HIDDEN GEMS OF LAOS AND MEKONG SERENITY
Absolutely loved Laos although would have liked to have spent more time in Luang Prabang. Our first guide was fantastic and so incredibly knowledgeable. For three star accommodation I could not fault it. Unless you particularly want to see the countryside, I would highly recommend to fly like my friends did to Vientiane, as the itinerary lied. The trip was not the 8 hours like stated, rather closer to 12 hours. There were limited English speaking people and the communication was limited therefore I was unsure what was going on at times regarding the arrival time to Vientiane. Furthermore it was not explained what our food voucher was for and there were not toilet break between the 2pm lunch break and the arrival time in Vientiane over 5 hours later. Don't be deceived either by the 'Deluxe' bus as it is 'Deluxe' 3rd world style. No biggie however had the most amazing hotel on the Mekong River, overlooking Thailand however the internet was non existent unless you were in the reception or restaurant. Compared to the communication from Hoi An Express during my Vietnam tour, I found the communication in Laos was very limited. There was no communication regarding my transfer between cities and it was something I was required to chase up myself.

Gaze in awe at the colonial architecture in Vientiane, hike up Mount Phousi in Luang Prabang or wind through jungle and steep limestones in Nong Khiaw. Nestled on the banks of the Mekong River, the Laos Highlands is a prime destination for global adventurers.
See all Laos Highlands toursTours in Luang Prabang give you a real look into local life, which our travelers mention again and again in their feedback. You'll stay with local families in their homes, getting to see how village life actually works day to day. The 100 Waterfalls trek is particularly popular - it's a proper adventure where you'll climb steep paths through thick jungle, cross flowing streams and eventually reach a series of beautiful cascading waterfalls. The cultural activities feel authentic and well-chosen, from watching skilled weavers create textiles to seeing how traditional paper is made using age-old methods. The food gets lots of positive comments too, with travelers loving the generous servings of fresh, local dishes throughout their trip. If you're planning a visit, aim for November through March when it's cooler and dry - perfect timing for exploring temples and outdoor activities. Many of our guests get up early to see the morning alms ceremony, where hundreds of monks in bright saffron robes collect their daily offerings as the sun rises.

The private tours through Luang Prabang really shine when you're looking to experience authentic Laos. Our 6-day routes start with dawn alms ceremonies alongside local monks and take you to the Kuang Si waterfall where the turquoise pools are perfect for a cooling swim. For those with more time, the 8 and 10-day options venture into Nam Ha's forests where you'll spend time in genuine village settings. Travelers tell us they love how we mix visits to temples like Wat Xiengthong, with its distinctive low-swept roofs, with river journeys to Pak Ou caves - home to thousands of Buddha figures tucked into the limestone. The longer trips head south to Pakse's pre-Angkor temples and Don Khone's cascading falls, giving you a full taste of what makes Laos special.

Top operators in Laos
Based on what our travelers tell us, you've got two solid options and one to watch out for in this region. Bravo Indochina Tours consistently delivers well-planned trips - they're particularly good at matching hotels to what people actually want, and their guides really know their stuff. The itineraries are thoughtfully put together, which helps everything run smoothly. DNQ Travel is another reliable choice that's earned positive feedback from our customers. They're notably flexible with changes and handle everything with respect, making the whole experience feel effortless and personal. I should mention that we've had some concerns about Realistic Asia. Several of our travelers reported issues with guide professionalism and felt the company wasn't fully focused on their needs during their trips. While every company can have off days, these reports suggest it might be worth looking at the other options first. Between Bravo Indochina and DNQ Travel, you're likely to have a good experience with either one. Both companies have proven track records of taking care of the details and delivering what they promise. They're well-established in the region and know how to handle local logistics without a hitch.

"We had the most wonderful family holiday thanks to Realistic Asia and Thang! Our “Golden Triangle of Indochina in 10 Days” tour was perfectly paced, with a mix of activities/tours as well as opportunities to rest and relax. We saw all of the must-see sights in Siem Reap, Luang Prabang, Hanoi, and Halong Bay. Our guides were terrific, and the hotels (we did a mix of 4 and 5-star) and transportation were excellent and comfortable. Realistic Asia was very flexible and accommodating during our planning process. Thang was responsive and communicative leading up to and during the trip, ready to answer any questions we had at any time. We would happily book a trip with Realistic Asia and Thang again!

Best places to start your Laos tour
Most of our travelers start their Laos journey from either Luang Prabang or Vientiane, with Luang Prabang being the slightly more common choice. Here's something practical we've learned - while buses run between major cities, flying between Vientiane and Luang Prabang saves you quite a bit of time and helps avoid possible delays. We've found that booking about 82 days ahead really helps secure good tour dates, especially since our small group tours tend to fill up during peak season. The local guides make such a difference - they know just where to take you for authentic cultural moments and can explain traditions in ways guidebooks simply can't match. Quite a few of our guests actually prefer traveling during May-June or September-October when there are fewer tourists around; they get more personal cultural experiences, though they do need to pack for some rain.
Discover Laos tours for every budget
Looking for a wallet-friendly way to see Laos? Our most popular routes run 3 to 7 days and pack in plenty of cultural stops without breaking the bank. The 6-day northern route is a real favorite - you'll catch the train from Vientiane up to Vang Vieng and finally Luang Prabang. There's a good mix of guided temple visits and free time to wander. Our travelers keep telling us how much they love joining the morning alms ceremony in Luang Prabang, learning about local history at the COPE center in Vientiane and cooling off at Kuang Si Falls. If you're short on time, we've got 3-day tours focused on either Luang Prabang or Vientiane that still give you a proper taste of Laos' culture and natural spots.

You'll get right into local life - joining monks for dawn alms, watching traditional paper-making in Saa villages and getting active with some kayaking on the Nam Song River or ziplining through Vang Vieng's limestone peaks. Got less time? The 6-day northern tours work well, and our travelers really appreciate having their own guide explain all the local customs. What's nice is you can tweak things as you go - spend more time getting those perfect temple photos or browse the local markets a bit longer.

Next comes Vang Vieng, where limestone cliffs create perfect conditions for kayaking and exploring caves. In Luang Prabang, your days mix temple visits, river excursions and trips to minority villages. Our travelers often say the Living Land Farm visit is a highlight - you'll get hands-on with traditional farming methods and work alongside water buffalo. Some routes include the '100 Waterfalls' trail near Nong Khiaw, where you'll wade through streams and jungle to reach series of cascading falls.

You'll discover Luang Prabang's temples before taking the scenic mountain train to Vang Vieng. Our travelers tell us they particularly enjoy watching the sun go down over Nam Song River and taking private boats to explore Pak Ou caves. If you've got 10 days, the southern extension to Pakse adds pre-Angkor temples and quiet time in the 4000 Islands area. What makes these routes work so well for couples is how they mix cultural insights with private moments to just be together.
The 8-day northern routes really appeal to young adults who want to stay active while diving into the culture. You'll trek through Nam Ha National Protected Area spotting wildlife, paddle kayaks on calm rivers and zip through forest canopies. There's still plenty of time to explore Luang Prabang's temples, markets and local life. Our younger guests especially connect with village homestays where they can try homemade rice wine and get a real sense of traditional life. For those shorter on time, the 6-day express routes pack in temples, waterfalls and enough free time to create your own experiences.
Our 7-day highlights tour really works well for senior travelers - it shows you the best of Laos without rushing around. You'll use comfortable transport including the new high-speed train between cities, which many guests highlight as a favorite part. The guides get great feedback for their knowledge and care, especially helping with temple steps and explaining customs. Our senior travelers like having free afternoons to relax at Luang Prabang cafes or browse night markets. While the 328 steps up Mount Phousi can be challenging, there are always other options available and the overall pace lets you properly absorb the calm Lao atmosphere.
