What people love about Pays De La Loire Tours
- Cycle the Loire Valley
Fabulous leaders and incredible route - pathways along the river or back country roads or cycling through small cute towns. Mostly flat - and very nicely paced with coffee and photo stops, or lunch, or a chateau visit! Only reason this didn’t get excellent from me was some of the hotels could have been better (and their free breakfasts)
What our customers ask about Pays de la Loire Tours & Trips
What are the must-see châteaux highlights on a tour through Pays de la Loire?
The Loire Valley's UNESCO-listed châteaux stand as grand monuments to French history and architecture. The Château de Chambord dominates the landscape with 440 rooms and remarkable French Renaissance design. Château de Chenonceau stretches gracefully across the River Cher featuring gardens that reflect the rivalry between Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici. The Château d'Azay-le-Rideau rises from the Indre River like an architectural island where TourRadar travelers note its position as "a Renaissance gem built on an island in the Indre River."
When is the best time to visit Pays de la Loire for sightseeing?
Spring and fall present the most favorable conditions for exploring the Loire Valley. April through October offers reliable weather with May and June bringing temperatures around 20°C (68°F). These months reveal the gardens of Villandry at their peak. The autumn months of September and October bring thinner crowds and rich colors to the Saumur and Anjou vineyards. A TourRadar traveler shares "The spring gardens at Château de Villandry were absolutely stunning with perfect weather for outdoor exploration." High summer brings longer days but expects more visitors.
What types of accommodation can I expect on a Pays de la Loire tour?
The region offers lodging that ranges from restored châteaux to boutique city hotels. The 4-star Château Belmont in Tours provides modern amenities including a wellness center and heated pool. In Chenonceaux the 18th-century Auberge du Bon Laboureur sits just 500m from Chenonceau Castle. A TourRadar guest notes "The mix of staying in authentic château hotels like Château de Chissay and boutique properties in historic towns gave us a true taste of Loire Valley living."
What's unique about the local cuisine in Pays de la Loire?
Known as the "garden of France" the Loire Valley serves refined country dishes that spotlight regional ingredients. Local specialties include sandre (pike-perch) in beurre blanc sauce fresh game and distinctive goat cheeses like Selles-sur-Cher. The wine regions of Saumur Vouvray and Anjou produce notable vintages. A TourRadar guest reports "The combination of dining in local restaurants serving traditional Loire Valley cuisine and wine tasting at family-owned vineyards made the gastronomic experience unforgettable."
How long should I plan to stay to see the main highlights of Pays de la Loire?
A visit of 5-8 days allows time to explore the region's key attractions. This duration provides space to visit major châteaux including Chambord Chenonceau and Villandry while also discovering historic towns like Tours and Angers. According to a TourRadar traveler "Our 7-day tour was perfect - enough time to see the major castles without feeling rushed plus enjoy lovely dinners and wine tastings in between sightseeing."
Is Pays de la Loire suitable for family travel?
The Loire Valley welcomes families with activities that engage visitors of all ages. Children connect with the fairy-tale atmosphere of Château d'Ussé the inspiration for "Sleeping Beauty" while the Machines de l'île in Nantes fascinates with its mechanical elephant. Family-friendly hotels like the Hotel Mercure in Blois offer appropriate accommodations. A TourRadar visitor confirms "The mix of history outdoor activities and interactive experiences at places like the Machines de l'île kept both adults and children engaged throughout the trip."
