This tour is aptly named. All that I wanted to see and experience in my short 21-day time frame was achieved. Norma, our group guide, was always on hand to inform and answer questions about the various sites. She is so knowledgeable about the Inca sites and their culture. This tour was so enjoyable and made more so, by sharing interests and anecdotes with my fellow travellers. Can I only start Amazon tours from Manaus?
While Manaus is the main gateway with direct flights from Miami and Panama City you've actually got some great alternatives. Santarém is perfect if you want to check out the Tapajós National Forest and Belém gives you amazing access to the river delta. Puerto Maldonado's another option especially if you want to see the macaw clay licks and elevated walkways in Tambopata National Reserve. What's really interesting is how each starting point gives you different ecosystems - from Manaus you'll explore black-water environments while Santarém lets you experience both black and clear-water systems.
