What people love about French Riviera Tours
- The French Riviera - Monaco-Monte Carlo, Cannes, Nice, Antibes
Did the Euroadventures trip to the French Riviera for Carnival at the end of February. What a great trip! Had the owner of the company, Shaun, as our trip leader and he was fantastic. Showed us a ton of great sights in Monaco, Antibes, Nice and Cannes and recommendations for food and nightlife too. The Carnival parties were super fun as the streets were packed with the parade and floats. Really worth it going up in the carousel to get great views over the parade. Even though it was February, the weather was great and we even managed a few hours on the beach in Cannes (water was too chilly to swim though). We had an amazing all you can eat mussels dinner in Nice (local specialty being seafood of course), and all the food in general was fantastic. Overall the French Riviera is like a dream destination. So much to see and do in a small connected area with the cities and seaside towns. I really felt like we got to know the destination well even though the trip is just a 3 night weekend and that's thanks to everything Euroadventures showed us and the great itinerary!
- Stunning French Riviera

Travel French Riviera your way
Our most popular small-group tours blend Rome-to-Barcelona coastal routes with inland discoveries along the French Riviera. You'll hike between the vibrant villages of Cinque Terre and explore Nice's local neighborhoods while getting to know Monaco's hidden corners with expert guides who really know their way around. What our customers particularly like is how the tours mix guided activities with personal exploration time - one day you're joining cooking classes with local migrants in Barcelona, the next you're free to wander Rome's cobblestone streets at your own pace. The rail journeys between stops give you nice downtime to watch the Mediterranean coast slide by, and evening activities like wine tastings and group dinners help everyone connect naturally.
Select from our extensive range of 18 fully guided tours to enjoy a worry-free experience through French Riviera with our expert guides leading the way.
Best tour companies for French Riviera tours
Looking at the major tour operators, G Adventures and Euroadventures really stand out in terms of guide quality and overall experience. I've seen consistent feedback from our travelers about how their G Adventures CEOs turn what could be just another tour into something much more personal - they're genuinely invested in making everyone feel included and taken care of. The small touches make a big difference here. One of our recent travelers mentioned how their G Adventures CEO would join them for casual dinners, share local insights and really helped the group bond together like old friends. Similar story with Euroadventures - their trip leaders have a knack for going the extra mile, whether that's tracking down hard-to-find local spots or organizing impromptu celebrations (one guide even put together a surprise champagne evening for their group). It's worth noting though that not all operators hit these same standards. We've had some concerns from travelers who booked through Wingbuddy, dealing with basic issues like wrong bookings and transportation mix-ups. This kind of feedback helps us guide people toward more reliable choices. What makes both G Adventures and Euroadventures work so well is how they've nailed the basics while adding those personal elements that turn a good trip into a great experience. Their guides don't just stick to a script - they adapt, problem-solve and create those memorable moments that keep our travelers coming back. They've found that sweet spot between professional service and genuine connection.

Our week-long tours from Rome to Barcelona via the French Riviera combine train travel with local experiences. You'll stop at Pisa's tower, explore the Italian Riviera and spend time hiking between the five villages of Cinque Terre. The French section includes Nice and Monaco - our customers say they like having some structure but also free time to explore. The mix of transport makes these tours special: scenic train rides along the coast and a flight to Barcelona, where you'll cook with locals and explore winding streets in the Gothic Quarter.

Demographics
The social side of our small group Riviera tours really clicks with solo travelers, especially on routes between Rome and Barcelona. You'll join cooking sessions in Barcelona, walk Monaco's streets with local experts and share wine tastings with your group. Our solo guests particularly enjoy mixing planned activities with time to explore independently. The Nice hostels get solid feedback for their social setup, with common rooms that make meeting other travelers natural. The included group dinners and evening activities help solo travelers connect without forcing it.
For couples after a bit of romance, our Riviera tours blend luxury touches with real local experiences. We base private tours in quality Nice hotels and include special moments like food walks through local markets and coastal sunset cruises. Many couples opt for evening visits to Monte Carlo's casino followed by dinner in Monaco's historic center. Day trips to Saint-Paul-de-Vence offer lovely photo spots, while optional wine tastings in Beaujolais add something extra special. These tours work because couples get both structured activities and quiet time together.
Our active Riviera tours attract younger travelers by mixing daytime sightseeing with evening entertainment. Weekend packages include Nice old town pub crawls and visits to Monte Carlo's casino. Days combine market walking tours with free time to swim at Cannes and Antibes beaches. The Nice hostels, often with ground-floor bars, make it easy to meet other travelers in their 20s and 30s. The Rome to Barcelona routes are especially popular, offering cultural sites, beach time and social evenings in good proportion.
Our senior travelers enjoy tours with a comfortable pace and deeper cultural focus. The schedule alternates between Nice-based days and guided trips to nearby towns. Small group sizes and knowledgeable local guides who share rich historical context make these tours special. You'll visit local markets, traditional restaurants and cultural spots like the Picasso Museum. While walking is part of the experience, there's time for breaks and flexible scheduling. Optional trips to Menton and San Remo let you adjust activities to suit your energy level.
Our family tours along the French Riviera work really well because they mix fun activities with enough downtime. Nice makes a practical home base - you can take easy trips to Monaco and Antibes without constantly moving hotels. Parents tell us how much they like the balance; morning walks through Nice's local markets pair nicely with free afternoons for swimming or exploring museums. The Picasso Museum in Antibes is perfect for families since it keeps both kids and adults interested. The boat rides to Villefranche sur Mer add variety, and optional trips to medieval villages like Eze let families set their own pace.

Best time to visit French Riviera
- Spring 2025
The French Riviera really comes alive in spring and our Nice-based 4-day trips let you experience the February Carnival in full swing. You'll get excellent views of the street parades and floats from the carousel platforms - it's quite a show without the packed summer crowds. The weather strikes that sweet spot for exploring, though the Mediterranean's still a bit cool for swimming. Our travelers keep coming back for those unlimited mussel feasts in Nice's old town and love wandering through the flower markets when everything's in bloom. The walking routes through Nice's historic quarters work particularly well this time of year, leading you to quiet squares and local eateries most tourists miss in peak season.
- Summer 2025
Summer along the Riviera is all about mixing beach time with cultural spots. The smart move is starting early - our guides lead morning walks through Nice's old town before the real heat hits, then it's off to those crystal-clear beaches for afternoon swims. The boat rides from Nice to Villefranche sur Mer give you fantastic coastal views and our guides have perfect timing for Monaco visits. You'll see the royal palace and cathedral when it's cooler and duck into Monte Carlo's famous casino when you need a break from the sun. The evening scene in Nice's student areas has become a highlight - there are games and social spaces where our travelers often end up chatting with other visitors over drinks.
- Fall / Autumn 2025
Autumn hits just the right notes for exploring the Riviera's hilltop villages and coastal paths. Our routes combine medieval Eze and the Fragonard perfume factory with a scenic drive to Monaco. Nice's markets and old quarter are perfect for tasting local socca and pissaladière without fighting through summer crowds. The boat trips around Saint Tropez show off its old fort and millionaires' bay in that special autumn light, while inland villages like Saint-Paul-de-Vence and Gourdon offer something different. Our travelers particularly enjoy watching local confectioners at work and joining in the seasonal festivals that pop up in these smaller towns.

How do I get around the French Riviera easily?
The regional TER trains are your best bet really they run every half hour during busy times and you can zip from Nice to Monaco in just 20 minutes. If you're looking to save money the coastal bus 100 is fantastic at only €1.50 per ride with some amazing views thrown in. Want to explore those charming hilltop villages like Èze or Saint-Paul-de-Vence? You might want to rent a car from Nice Airport but just keep in mind parking can be a real headache and quite expensive in Monaco and Nice's old town. For a really special day trip hop on the Train des Merveilles from Nice to Tende it'll take you through some breathtaking Alpine scenery.
Which hidden gems should I check out beyond the main tourist spots?
You've got to visit Villefranche-sur-Mer it's just 10 minutes from Nice and has what locals consider the area's best swimming spot with this gorgeous sandy beach and historic port. Then there's medieval Èze perched way up at 429m with views that'll blow you away plus you can visit the famous Fragonard perfume factory. Saint-Paul-de-Vence is pretty special too with its La Colombe d'Or restaurant where artists used to trade paintings for meals and now you'll find over 60 art galleries. Don't miss Menton they call it the "Pearl of France" and it's got these amazing gardens thanks to its unique microclimate and architecture that feels really Italian.
What local experiences can I really dive into?
You can actually create your own perfume at Parfumerie Galimard in Grasse during a 2-hour workshop with expert perfumers guiding you. The Cours Saleya market in Nice's old town is a must before 1pm and if you're there Monday you'll catch the antiques. Want to feel like a local? Join in the pétanque games happening in Antibes' Place Nationale early evenings. The Picasso Museum in Antibes is really special it's in the actual château where Picasso worked in 1946 and they offer these great hands-on art workshops. Summer's amazing for experiencing traditional Provençal festivals with local music and dancing.
Where can I find those special places that tourists usually miss?
You'll love the Serre de la Madone garden in Menton it's this incredible place designed by Lawrence Johnston with rare subtropical plants and beautiful Mediterranean terraces. Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild has nine themed gardens that are much quieter than the busy beach spots. There's this amazing island called Île Saint-Honorat just off Cannes where monks still make wine like they've done since medieval times. If you're up for some hiking head to Mercantour National Park it's only an hour from Nice but feels worlds away with ancient rock art and stunning Alpine trails.
What are the must-try local dishes and where should I eat them?
You've got to try socca a chickpea pancake that's best at Chez Pipo in Nice's Port area and don't miss the real Pissaladière that onion tart you'll find at Marché de la Libération. For an amazing bouillabaisse head to Restaurant Acchiardo they've been serving it since 1927. La Merenda in old Nice does these incredible Niçoise ravioli filled with Swiss chard. The local olive oil and tapenade are actually protected by AOC status and you'll find the best at Nice's Olivier Baussan shop. Looking for a good deal? Lots of restaurants along the Promenade des Anglais do all-you-can-eat mussels in the evening.
