What people love about Norwegian Fjords Tours
- Magic of the Fjords - 7 days
Everything in the pre-trip preparations was excellent. They are will organized on-line for entering travel information and payments. Our contact was easily available for questions or other information. The tour we signed up for was run by VOS (Voyages of Scandinavia). There was just one issue - our tour voucher had the wrong first night hotel. But, as mentioned before, our contact was readily available to advise us. Just a slight inconvenience. The tour itself is a very good itinerary, particular for people who like free time to do as they wish. My advise to VOS is to provide a bit more recommendations on things to do in each area. We found we had to rely on our guide books and tourist centers for information. Otherwise, the bookings for hotels, trains and boats proved very convenient.
- Walking the Fjords
This tour was so much fun. I can’t say enough about the beauty of Norway. Each of the five hikes provided a unique aspect to the rugged, unique terrain. Nes Gard, the accommodations, friendly staff and absolutely wonderful food each evening, far exceeded my expectations. My only regret was that I had not gotten in just a bit better shape physically. I would call this tour “Hiking the Fjords.” That being said, it is just moderately strenuous and every step up the mountain is worth what awaits!
- 5-DAYS FJORD NORWAY ADVENTURE PACKAGE
Expectations were blown away. We immediately felt confident in the Guides and the staff, and once on the water, we felt safe, too! We were a family of five, and my teen son has autism. George listened as I explained my son's needs to him, and he was excellent at making accommodations to make sure we were set for an amazing time. I would ? recommend it to anyone who wants an adventure!

See all Coach / Bus toursNorway's most engaging fjord tours take you right into the heart of these incredible waterways. There's an 8-day route that really gets into it, starting in Trondheim and working south through Kristiansund and Bergen. You'll hop ferries across the fjords and drive the Atlantic Road - it's quite something with eight bridges linking the islands together. Another solid choice puts you right in UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord where you'll spend a night in Loen. The cable car there is one of the world's steepest, taking you more than 1,000 meters up for proper fjord views. Our customers particularly like the Oslo-focused tour that mixes city culture with deep fjord exploration - you get that lovely train ride from Oslo to Flam and even try traditional Viking food at Ægir Brewery. These tours let you get properly involved: wade in mountain streams and stand at Eagle's Point looking down over Geirangerfjord.

From what our travelers tell us, VOS (Voyages of Scandinavia) really delivers on making Nordic trips work smoothly - they've got all the logistics sorted and put people up in some excellent hotels. The Kviknes in Balestrand seems to be a particular favorite with their groups. If you're looking for more personal attention, Outdoor Norway gets a lot of praise for their guide team. People consistently mention Marcio and Genis by name; they seem to have a knack for making each trip feel tailored to the group rather than just following a set script. I notice you're asking about Europamundo and G Adventures too - while they're both established companies, we don't have direct feedback from our travelers about their Scandinavian tours in our current dataset to share specifics about their service quality or guide teams. The personal touch really matters up in Scandinavia where weather and conditions can change quickly, so it's good to see companies like VOS and Outdoor Norway putting such emphasis on getting the details right and having knowledgeable guides who can adapt on the fly.

Best places to start your Norwegian Fjords tour
Most travelers start their fjord journey from Oslo - we've had 32 recent departures from the capital. Tromsø comes in next with 23 departures, while Bergen sees 14 tour starts despite sitting right at the fjords' doorstep. Copenhagen, Voss and other cities make up the rest of our departure points. Looking at booking patterns, you'll want to lock in plans about 3.5 months ahead, especially if you're eyeing popular spots like the Kviknes Hotel in peak season. The waters are rich with wildlife - our travelers regularly spot eagles gliding overhead, seals popping up beside the boats and porpoises breaking the surface. Several fjords including Geirangerfjord hold UNESCO World Heritage status, their towering cliffs and curtains of waterfalls revealing how glaciers carved these valleys millions of years ago.

48 tours in Norwegian FjordsPrivate fjord tours give you total flexibility with dedicated guides and custom itineraries. From Oslo, you get your own guide for walks through Akershus Fortress and along Karl Johans gate. The private setup means you can take your time - our clients often spend extra moments capturing Seven Sisters waterfall or exploring deeper into Bryggen's wooden houses in Bergen. A private driver handles scenic routes like the Atlantic Road and you'll have first-class seats on the Flåm Railway. This style works especially well for photographers, families and anyone wanting to move at their own pace with expert guidance close at hand.
Top Norwegian Fjords travel itineraries to fit your plans
The week-long fjord tours give you a proper taste of Norway's natural flow. Starting in Oslo, you'll take that incredible Flåmsbana railway journey - our travelers often tell us the steep mountain passes and waterfalls exceed their expectations. If you're into winter sports, there's a great route combining skiing near Voss's fjords before heading up to spot the Northern Lights in Tromsø. The most complete 7-day circuit mixes Oslo's cultural spots with a Sognefjord cruise, and guests particularly love staying at the Kviknes Hotel with its waterfront setting and really good buffet dinners. These tours balance guided activities nicely with free time - you can join extras like exploring the Fjærland glacier or wander through Bergen's fish market at your own speed.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Oslo, Gol, Flam, Bergen
See all toursThe 10-day journeys let you really discover northern Norway. There's an excellent route linking Oslo and Stockholm, starting in Norwegian fjord country before taking the fast train into Sweden - our customers consistently praise how well the connections work. Another route takes you up past the Arctic Circle to Honningsvåg and Alta, where you'll visit working husky farms and see the striking Northern Lights Cathedral. These longer trips include special touches like sleeping in glass-roofed cabins for aurora watching, meeting real Sámi reindeer herders and sharing meals in their traditional lavvu tents. With the extra time, you can properly explore Bergen's UNESCO-listed Bryggen area and drive the Atlantic Road with its eight bridges spanning the sea.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, Flam, Gudvangen
See all toursThe two-week Svalbard expedition focuses on Arctic wildlife and raw landscapes rather than traditional fjords. You'll sail around the entire archipelago, reaching as far as Kvitøya which few visitors ever see. The route includes the massive Austfonna ice cap with its 45-kilometer ice wall and the major seabird colonies at Alkefjellet. Having 14 days means proper time for polar bear watching, visiting remote historical sites and adjusting the route when ice conditions change. You'll stay on a well-equipped expedition ship, perfect for reaching isolated spots like Karl XII Öya while coming back to good meals and comfortable cabins each night.

Demographics
Our solo fjord tours strike that perfect balance between guided moments and free time to explore. Starting from Oslo, you'll hop aboard the incredible Flåmsbana railway as it winds through mountain passes. The days mix scheduled activities with plenty of afternoons to yourself - perfect for wandering through Bergen's wooden Bryggen houses or finding a cozy spot in Trondheim's waterfront restaurants. The 5-day fjord packages work really well for solo travelers, combining group activities like kayaking in Nærøyfjord with time to hit Voss's hiking trails at your own pace. Our guides know how to create a friendly group feeling while giving everyone space - you can join the others for dinner or explore local spots on your own. The hotels are all centrally located, making it easy and safe to do your own thing in each town.
For couples, our multi-day fjord journeys blend scenic travel with quiet moments together. One favorite route includes a night at Kviknes Hotel in Balestrand, where you can share Norwegian specialties while watching the sun set over Sognefjord. Through Hardangerfjord, you'll visit family-run cider farms and take private walks to spots like Voringsfossen waterfall. What makes these trips special is how they unfold - there's time to really take in places like Geiranger, with evening walks to the waterfall or quiet moments at Eagle's Point lookout. Couples tell us they love mixing active experiences like glacier hiking at Briksdalsbreen with slower-paced moments on scenic train rides and harborside dinners in Bergen.
Young adults get their fill of action on our activity-focused routes. You'll paddleboard Voss's rivers, tackle single-track mountain bike trails and kayak through narrow fjord passages. The social side really makes these trips - nothing bonds a group like conquering grade III rapids on the Raundal River or helping each other up tricky sections of Mt. Oksen. Days move between high-energy activities and cultural stops, like exploring traditional fishing villages between outdoor challenges. Our travelers in their 20s and 30s particularly like choosing their own difficulty level, from easier cycling routes to technical trail sections.

Best time to visit Norwegian Fjords
- Spring 2025
Spring opens up some interesting combinations in fjord country, where you can actually ski and kayak in the same trip. Our routes around Granvin Fjord let you hit the slopes in the morning and paddle the warming waters by afternoon. The Flåm Railway rides are particularly good this time of year - you'll see dozens of waterfalls powered by the spring melt. Many of our travelers time their visits to catch Kjosfossen waterfall at its strongest, when all that winter snow starts flowing down the mountains. The e-bike routes to the falls open up again, giving you a whole new way to explore.

- Summer 2025
Summer brings those long Nordic days and opens up every corner of the fjords. The Oslo to Bergen routes are really popular, taking you past Geirangerfjord's Seven Sisters falls and along the island-connected Atlantic Road. You can mix glacier hikes at Briksdal with boat trips through the UNESCO fjords. Our customers keep telling us how much they love those endless summer evenings - you can still take great photos at Eagle's Road viewpoint well after dinner. The Flåm Railway shows off its best side in summer too, with clear skies highlighting every valley and peak along the way.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Autumn gives you a more intimate look at the fjords, with fewer crowds and mountains draped in gold and red. Those Bergen-Oslo routes take on a different character now - our travelers particularly like how the low autumn sun lights up the fjord walls during morning cruises. You'll find several good options that connect Copenhagen or Stockholm city visits with fjord exploration. The timing works well for walking through historic districts before heading into the mountains. If you're taking the Atlantic Road, autumn actually adds something extra with dramatic waves crashing against those island-connecting bridges.
