What people love about Lares Trek Tours in April
- Lares Trek to Machu Picchu 4D/3N
I liked very much this trail. Our guide was very funny and knew very well the andean culture and history. It was very pleasant! I truly recommend it!
- Lares Trek to Machu Picchu 4 Days/3 Nights
We just finished the Lares trek with alpaca expeditions and it was such an awesome experience! Our guide Alvin made it an amazing trip and was such fun to be around, knowledgeable, and nice - even with my super slow hiking! Our chef Annie made the most amazing food and accomodated the vegetarian half of our group with no problems and a smile. Everyone agreed that the trek was their favorite part and they would choose it over just going to macchu Picchu! I would 150% recommend to anyone going to Cusco.
What our customers ask about Lares Trek Tours in April 2025
What are the main highlights of doing the Lares Trek in April?
The Lares Trek in April takes travelers through the Peruvian highlands where snow-capped Mount Veronica (5750m) dominates the skyline. The route passes through traditional Quechua communities including Huacahuasi and Patacancha where visitors can experience daily mountain life. A notable stop includes the G Adventures-supported women's weaving co-op in Ccaccaccollo and relaxing soaks in the Lares hot springs. One TourRadar traveler shared "We saw local villages hiked to 4500 meters saw unknown ruins camped in the Andes. A dream come true!" Accommodations range from camping to stays at the Sonesta Posada del Inca in Yucay and El Albergue Hotel in Ollantaytambo.
What level of fitness is required for the Lares Trek in April?
The trek demands solid physical preparation with April's seasonal rains making trails more challenging. Daily hikes last 6-8 hours reaching elevations up to 4800m at Ipsaycocha Pass. A TourRadar traveler notes: "This was a DIFFICULT TREK for us especially day 2 of the trek when you reach 4400 meters! Although we are not in the best condition we found it hard to reach the high passes." Most guides suggest 2-3 days of altitude adjustment in Cusco before starting with stays at properties like Casa Andina Standard or Tierra Viva Cusco Centro.
What transportation is included for the Lares Trek in April?
Standard transportation packages start with hotel pickup in Cusco from places like Ayni Cusco Hotel followed by private vehicle transfer to Lares Valley. The journey includes train service from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes on PeruRail's Expedition class and bus transfers to Machu Picchu. A TourRadar traveler confirms "The equipment and transportation were in great condition compared to some of the other groups we encountered on the trek." Return transport to Cusco comes standard with optional upgrades available to Vistadome train service.
What unique cultural experiences can I expect on the Lares Trek in April?
April brings rich encounters with Andean communities particularly in Huacahuasi and Patacancha villages. Visitors can watch traditional weaving demonstrations and learn about local farming methods. A TourRadar traveler notes: "Our guide spoke Quechua so we had a special interaction with the village kids. We gave them some snacks and treats and the guide translated for us." Stays at properties like Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel or Sol y Luna Lodge & Spa complement these experiences with access to community visits and local markets.
What meals are provided during the Lares Trek in April?
Meals feature fresh Peruvian cuisine including quinoa soups chicken dishes and regional specialties. Hot drinks help counter April's cool temperatures. According to one TourRadar traveler "The food was superb kitchen staff true professionals we were well fed every day!" Mornings start with hot breakfasts of porridge and eggs while lunches and dinners showcase local ingredients. Many tours begin with dinner at established Cusco restaurants such as Pachapapa or Chicha por Gaston Acurio.
How does the Lares Trek compare to other treks to Machu Picchu in April?
The Lares Trek stands out as a quieter alternative to the classic Inca Trail during April. A TourRadar review states "Forget the Inca Trail.... Lares is the next best thing if not better!" The route offers close-up views of village life in places like Huacawasi and Cuncani plus access to thermal springs and mountain vistas. While the trek concludes at Machu Picchu it provides deeper cultural connections and tends to have better availability than the strictly controlled Inca Trail.
