What people love about Ecuador Tours
- Galápagos Adventure: Snorkelling & Sea Lions
Great tour. I fell in love with Galapagos!
- Galápagos Adventure: Snorkelling & Sea Lions
This was an absolutely amazing tour! I loved everyday of it, from start to finish. To be able to see so many amazing animals in such a beautiful and pristine environment was truly a dream. My guide Fernando was also amazing! His knowledge and passion for the islands really came through and he gave us so much great information while being friendly, positive and engaging. I would do this tour again if I could. The camping element was also great. It was actually better than I imagined as the tents were large and tall enough to stand up in and more than enough space for 2 people. The only thing I would offer is an even longer tour visiting Espaniola, Rabida and possibly other islands as well (aimed at 18-35's bracket), as now I am even more fascinated with the other islands and want to see more! I would recommend this tour to anyone.
- Galápagos Adventure: Snorkelling & Sea Lions
The tour was very well organised. there was plenty of time to do all the additional activities and the guide made sure we did what we wanted.
Most popular destinations in Ecuador
The Galapagos Islands put you right in the middle of what feels like your own nature documentary. Our customers keep telling us their trips really shine when they get incredibly close to those famous giant tortoises, watching them move about freely at local ranches and breeding centers. Jump into the water and you'll find sea lions swimming loops around you, putting on quite a show. Over at Kicker Rock (León Dormido), snorkelers regularly spot hammerhead sharks, sea turtles and also rays gliding through the clear waters. If you like hiking, the volcanic paths of Sierra Negra take you across landscapes that look like another planet, with species you won't find anywhere else in the world. The sweet spot for wildlife viewing falls between December and May - the water's warmer and calmer then, perfect for snorkeling. That said, each season brings its own special wildlife shows, from waved albatross making their nests to blue-footed boobies doing their distinctive courtship dances.
See all Galapagos Islands toursDive into the Pacific's chill vibes. Sail through Fiji's gorgeous islands, trek New Zealand's epic Milford Track, and explore Australia's jaw-dropping Great Barrier Reef. Savor tasty Polynesian eats, hang with friendly locals, and discover incredible marine life.
See all Pacific toursMachu Picchu stands as the crowning jewel of Andean experiences, where our travelers consistently tell us that photographs simply can't capture its true scale and majesty. The ancient Inca citadel reveals itself differently throughout the day as clouds drift past, creating an almost mystical atmosphere that leaves visitors spellbound. The Inca Trail journey itself has become legendary among our customers - it's a genuine mountain adventure with challenging ascents, ancient stone pathways and nights spent camping under star-filled skies. Our guides, who share deep knowledge of Inca history and local ecology, have earned particular praise for turning what could be just a tough trek into an enriching cultural experience. Travelers often describe how the changing ecosystems along the trail, from cloud forests to alpine grasslands, create a sense of walking through multiple worlds in just a few days.

Ecuador's Avenue of Volcanoes offers proper trekking with real challenges and rewards. The best multi-day route takes you through the Andean mountains near Chimborazo, reaching 16,732 feet where you'll get unique views from Earth's center's highest point. Our groups love stopping in Chugchilan, where local farmers still use traditional bartering - it's authentic and unchanged by tourism. The Quilotoa area combines tough crater rim walks with nights in isolated mountain lodges, while Cotopaxi National Park provides gentler trails where you might spot wild horses, Andean condors and loads of birds. What makes these walks special is the mix of high-altitude routes and local culture - you could find yourself learning about healing plants from indigenous guides or sharing home-cooked meals in mountain communities.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursEcuador mixes wildlife watching with physical challenges and genuine cultural experiences. Popular trips combine horse riding in Cotopaxi National Park with white-water rafting on the Jatunyacu River, which feeds right into the Amazon. The multi-sport options include biking the Baños Waterfall Route past three different waterfalls, with Tungurahua volcano as your backdrop. These trips stand out because you get such variety - one morning you might be cooking with the Siona community, then by evening you're walking through the rainforest looking for nocturnal creatures. Our travelers really like moving between high Andes activities and Amazon lowland exploration, staying in comfortable eco-lodges between outings. For something quieter, Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve offers kayaking where you can quietly watch river dolphins and tropical birds.
See all Active toursYou really need 7-10 days to experience the Galapagos properly by boat. The Grand Daphne yacht does it particularly well with small groups and knowledgeable naturalist guides who make all the difference. The sailing routes reach places like Kicker Rock, where you can snorkel alongside hammerhead sharks and sea turtles. Most trips stop at Las Tintoreras on Isabela Island - it's brilliant for watching Galapagos penguins and marine iguanas just doing their thing. The trips work so well because you get both land and water activities; your day might start with a volcano hike and finish with sea lion snorkeling. Our guests often tell us how much they appreciate the crew members who know exactly when and where to find specific wildlife, from blue-footed boobies to flightless cormorants.
See all Sailing toursEcuador's explorer tours really come alive in the Galapagos Islands where our most popular routes mix water and land activities. You'll go snorkeling with sea lions at Las Bachas, hike the huge Sierra Negra Volcano crater and visit centers where giant tortoises are bred. One day you're kayaking around Isabela Island, the next you're walking through forests filled with opuntia cacti. Our travelers consistently praise the naturalist guides who spot wildlife others might miss - from blue-footed boobies and penguins to marine iguanas. The Charles Darwin Research Station features on many itineraries, and at Kicker Rock the clear waters make it easy to swim alongside sea turtles.

Looking at the recent feedback from our travelers, Intrepid comes out particularly strong with their Ecuador tours. They've got their logistics sorted well - the itineraries make sense, run smoothly and you get solid value for what you pay. What really stands out though are their guides, who know their stuff about local wildlife and environmental protection. Adventure Journeys also gets lots of positive mentions from travelers coming back from Ecuador. The places they pick to stay have real character, and they're doing the food right - you'll get proper Ecuadorian dishes throughout. Their guide David keeps getting special mentions in reviews; he's one of those guides who helps you really understand local life rather than just ticking off tourist spots. G Adventures is having a bit of a rougher time lately. When political issues came up in Ecuador, some of our travelers ran into problems. The buses weren't always on schedule, there were some hiccups with hotels and getting clear updates was tricky at times. It's an area where they could definitely step up their game. I should note these experiences are mainly from 2023, which was a bit of an unusual year for Ecuador with the political situation. Still, it shows which companies handled the challenges better than others.

Best places to start your Ecuador tour
Most people (about 72% of our travelers) kick off their Ecuador experience in Quito, while others fly directly to Baltra Island or San Cristóbal for Galapagos-focused trips. You'll want to book roughly 3.7 months ahead - that's about 112 days before you plan to travel. This timing really matters for Galapagos tours since boats have strict capacity limits and permits are carefully controlled to protect the environment. It's smart to spend 2-3 days in Quito first - not just for altitude adjustment but also to explore the local markets, cultural sites and authentic food scene. If you're planning to explore the Andes region, June through September typically offers the clearest skies for hiking and mountain views.

The heartland tours connect mountain views with thermal springs, including stops at South America's biggest handicraft market and relaxing soaks in the Papallacta Hot Springs. Our guests really like how these tours mix guided activities with free exploration time.
The upscale Galapagos yacht tours aboard the Grand Queen Beatriz offer refined 10-day cruises that take you snorkeling with penguins at Sombrero Chino, watching rare Galapagos hawks at Espumilla Beach and kayaking through hidden coves. You'll get special access to remote spots like Punta Suarez to see waved albatross colonies. Our travelers enjoy watching blue-footed boobies do their mating dances right from the deck and exploring the black sand shores of Bahia Gardner. The expert naturalist guides lead small groups to quiet snorkeling spots where you might catch glimpses of white-tipped reef sharks, golden cow-nose rays and also sea turtles.

Seven days in Ecuador lets you see the striking differences between the Galapagos and mainland areas. Most people start in Quito before catching a flight to Baltra or San Cristobal islands. Our travelers spend their days getting close to sea turtles while snorkeling and walking across landscapes shaped by volcanoes. The Giant Tortoise Breeding Center on Isabela Island is always a highlight, and the hike up to Sierra Negra Volcano's crater shows you just how massive these formations are. Some trips focus purely on the Galapagos with daily activities - you might kayak in Puerto Villamil Bay one morning and walk to the Flamingo Lagoon the next. Other routes mix time between Quito's colonial center (it's UNESCO-listed), the markets of Otavalo and also the warm waters of Papallacta Hot Springs.

Island-hopping in the Galapagos works really well for solo travelers, and our guests keep telling us why. The small groups naturally come together while snorkeling with sea lions at La Loberia or hiking up to catch the views from Frigatebird Hill on San Cristobal Island. What really clicks is how the days flow - you'll spend mornings watching blue-footed boobies and penguins with the group, then get time to yourself in the afternoons. You might take a quiet walk on the black sand beaches or grab a kayak and explore at your own speed. The evenings are flexible too - join the group for dinner or take some peaceful time alone. Our travelers often mention how the guides make everyone feel part of the group, especially during shared activities like cooking classes in Santa Cruz and hikes among the volcanoes of Isabela Island.
Our Ecuador multi-sport tours hit all the right notes with young adults looking for real action. You'll move from paddling the rapids of Jatunyacu River to cycling past waterfalls near Baños and riding horses through Cotopaxi National Park. Groups stay small, between 5 and 12 people, which creates an easy social atmosphere. One day you're up in a treehouse platform looking out at Tungurahua volcano, the next you're getting hands-on with traditional cooking in Quito's historic center. The guides are pros at managing different fitness levels as everyone adjusts to the altitude - they'll get you cycling the Waterfall Route when you're ready and know when it's time to relax in Papallacta's thermal springs. The lodges get great feedback from our younger guests and also the guides who really understand how to pace the activities.
