- IT - Athens to Rome & Amalfi - Greece, the Balkans and Italy Tour with 1 included flight
I went to this tour with my two closest friends! This tour perfectly balanced history, culture, and stunning landscapes - from the ancient wonders of Athens and Delphi to the breathtaking Amalfi Coast. The itinerary was really well-organized, the guide was fantastic, and the accommodations were comfortable. Every destination had its unique charm, making this an enriching experience. Highly recommend!
- Italy and Greece 4 Star w/Catamaran in Santorini
I would highly recommend this type of tour. Not a bus tour or a cruise but more of a stress free, mostly private tour of everything you want to see plus enough free time to make plenty of your own adventures in places of true wonder without a worry in the world. Everything was carefully planned and taken care of for us along every step of the tour. The communication through What'sApp was completely seamless and made it like we had our own personal tour agent available at any time to answer any questions and make sure we had all necessary information for the next day's adventure. We saw more, learned more and experienced more than we could of imagined. I can't say enough about how incredible the use of What'sApp was throughout the tour. We bought a ESim card that worked throughout Europe, so where ever we were we received all messages from TourRadar/Wanderful Holidays and always knew where to be, what time to be there and the appropriate attire for the tour/excursion.

Getting the most from your money while seeing the highlights - that's what makes these tours work well. A smart 10-day route between Rome and Athens keeps costs down but doesn't skimp on experiences. You'll walk through the Colosseum and Vatican without waiting in lines, then hop on fast trains to Venice where gondolas and guided tours of St. Mark's await. The journey takes you into Greece to explore Meteora's monasteries and ancient Delphi before wrapping up in Athens. Our customers tell us they really like having the main logistics sorted while keeping some independence to wander and explore.
There's also a 15-day option through Athens, Mykonos and Santorini that works well for budget-conscious travelers. It's self-guided, which helps with costs and gives you room to move at your own speed - we handle the ferries and hotels while you decide what to do each day. The feedback from our travelers often mentions how nice it is to have the key pieces arranged but still choose their daily activities. The 4-star hotels in Greece get particularly good reviews for hitting that sweet spot between comfort and value.

While managing all the complex logistics, these tours keep groups intimate yet add special elements - picture BBQ lunches during Santorini caldera cruises, cooking classes in family-run vineyards, and after-hours access to historic monuments. The 10-day tours give you a proper taste of both Italy and Greece. From Venice, where you skip past the lines at St. Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace, to a peaceful gondola ride through the quieter canals - it's a great start. After exploring Rome, you'll catch a flight to Athens where local guides share their knowledge of the Acropolis and ancient agora. There's another route that takes you from Athens up through the mountains to Meteora's monasteries and down to Delphi. Our travelers really appreciate not having to figure out the transport between cities, especially on longer stretches, plus they get that nice mix of guided tours and free time to explore on their own. It works really well if you're visiting these countries for the first time and want to see the main sites while still getting a feel for local life.
See all toursTwo weeks lets you really sink into the culture and mix things up a bit. Some routes combine Greece's classical sites with relaxed island time - think morning walks through ancient Olympia's training grounds followed by afternoon swims in Mykonos. Other trips head east after Rome and Florence to spots like Matera with its cave homes and Alberobello's unique trulli houses. Our guests love spending multiple nights in key places on these longer tours, giving them time to make their own discoveries. Some itineraries include multi-day Greek island cruises stopping at Kusadasi, Rhodes and also other ports, while others head into Epirus's mountains to visit traditional villages and cliff-top monasteries.

Our 10-to-12 day routes hit all the major spots while keeping things smooth for solo travelers. You'll get private pickup from the airport and stay in central hotels that make independent exploring easy. The guides are great at including everyone during walks through Rome's ancient quarter and Venice's quiet corners. Solo guests often tell us they make new friends during the Tuscan wine tastings and cooking classes. Many love the three nights in Santorini - you can join the group sunset cruises or wander the white villages at your own pace.
Couples really click with our mixed cultural and romantic routes. One beautiful journey starts with private gondola rides and prosecco in Venice before heading into Tuscany's wine country. Another favorite combines Rome's ancient sites with Greek islands - you'll see the Vatican Museums before the crowds and catch those famous Santorini sunsets from the caldera rim. There's time to enjoy long lunches in Athens' Plaka district, explore Venice's quiet canals and also take day trips out to islands like Murano and Burano. Our couples appreciate having guided tours but also free evenings to find their own favorite restaurants.
Young travelers connect perfectly with our Athens to Rome routes running 25 days, which weave historical sites together with engaging activities and plenty of free time. These trips hit just the right notes by combining guided tours of ancient landmarks with hands-on experiences - leather crafting in Florence, traditional pizza-making sessions in Naples, and also wine tastings at family estates across Tuscany. The schedule flows naturally, dedicating mornings to major sites like the Colosseum and Vatican Museums, while leaving afternoons open for neighborhood wandering or spontaneous group activities. Those seeking Mediterranean culture often choose our Greece-focused journey, where walks through ancient Olympia lead into island explorations around Mykonos. What sets these tours apart for younger guests is the thoughtful mix - you'll gain expert insights at Delphi and Meteora's hill-top monasteries, while having freedom to discover hidden corners or bond with fellow travelers during evening strolls through Athens' Plaka or Rome's charming Trastevere. Special touches elevate the experience, from caldera-view BBQ lunches while sailing Santorini's waters, to early morning museum visits before the tourist crowds arrive.
The 10-to-12 day Italy and Greece tours strike an ideal balance for seniors, combining cultural immersion with comfortable logistics and centrally placed hotels. Our travelers appreciate having private transfers from airports, while professional guides lead engaging walks through Rome's quieter corners, ancient quarters and also Venice's hidden pathways. The schedule builds in proper rest periods between activities, and many guests highlight their three-night Santorini stays where they join sunset cruises or wander white villages independently. The two-week option mixes classical sites with island experiences - you'll explore ancient Olympia's training grounds in the morning before enjoying leisure time in Mykonos. Travel between cities flows smoothly with first-class rail connections and private drivers navigating coastal roads. The tours gain extra depth through early Vatican Museum access before peak hours, gondola rides along Venice's lesser-known canals and also dinner reservations at authentic neighborhood restaurants. Our customers consistently mention valuing expert guides at historical sites while maintaining the flexibility to discover local areas independently.
The 14-day family routes through Italy and Greece work really well for parents and kids. Our local guides in Rome tell stories that bring the Colosseum alive - kids love hearing about the gladiators and emperors while walking through the actual arena. Florence mixes history with fun hands-on activities; families join leather workshops and do taste-tests at gelato shops. Kids get excited about riding water buses through Venice's canals, making their own pizzas in Naples and watching the glass masters work their magic on Murano. The schedule includes good downtime too - afternoons by the pool and casual dinners in neighborhood restaurants where locals eat.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Our winter travelers really love the Italy-Greece combinations that work so well in the quieter season. The 10-day Venice-Rome-Santorini route gets particularly good feedback - you'll find much shorter lines at the Vatican Museums and more space to really take in the collections. After the museum visits, you can warm up with private tastings in local wine cellars. We've adjusted the island-hopping segments to match winter ferry schedules and our guides pick just the right times to visit places like the Acropolis when the light is best and crowds are thin.

How can I experience both Italy and Greece in one trip?
You'll love combining these two Mediterranean gems! It's totally doable and actually creates an amazing journey. Most tours connect the must-sees like Rome Florence and Venice with places like Athens Santorini and Mykonos using quick flights or overnight ferries. A lot of travelers love pairing Venice's gorgeous canals with Santorini's stunning caldera views or exploring Rome's Colosseum alongside Athens' Acropolis. If you're up for discovering hidden treasures you can also check out Meteora's incredible cliff-top monasteries or Sicily's Villa Romana del Casale.
How much time do I need for Italy and Greece?
You'll want at least two weeks to really soak it all in. This gives you enough time to properly explore Rome's incredible Vatican Museums and Forum which honestly need 2-3 days minimum plus discover Florence's Renaissance masterpieces at the Uffizi wander through Venice's local cicchetti bars in Dorsoduro and still have time for Athens' ancient wonders and some proper island-hopping in the Cyclades. While you could do it in 10 days you'd be rushing through the highlights but with 14+ days you can include magical places like Delphi's oracle site or spend time in Tuscany's Chianti wine region.
What's the best way to get between Italy and Greece?
You've got three main options that work really well: You can hop on a direct flight from Rome or Venice to Athens which takes about 3 hours catch an overnight ferry from Brindisi or Bari to Patras or Igoumenitsa with comfy cabins and beautiful Mediterranean views or take high-speed trains through Italy before flying to Greece. The overnight ferry's pretty special giving you that authentic Mediterranean experience plus saves on a night's accommodation while flights give you more time for exploring. Once you're in each country getting around is easy with Italy's train network and Greece's ferry system.
Which foods should I definitely try in both countries?
Each area has its own amazing specialties! In Rome you've got to try the cacio e pepe in Trastevere's traditional trattorias while Venice offers incredible cicchetti like baccalà mantecato in historic bacari bars and Florence serves up amazing bistecca alla fiorentina in the San Lorenzo area. Over in Greece make sure to taste real moussaka in Athens' Plaka neighborhood grab some fresh-caught fish at Santorini's Amoudi Bay tavernas or try authentic souvlaki at local psistarias. Don't forget about the wines either try Tuscany's Brunello di Montalcino or Santorini's unique assyrtiko from volcanic soils.
When's the perfect time to visit?
April-May and September-October are really your sweet spots with fewer tourists and lovely temps around 20-25°C. Spring's fantastic with Tuscany's wildflowers blooming and perfect hiking weather in Meteora while autumn brings all these amazing harvest festivals and wine events. Summer between June and August gets pretty hot hitting 35°C with lots of tourists but it's perfect if you're planning on beach time in the islands. Winter from November to March means better deals and more authentic local experiences though island services do slow down and there are fewer ferries running.
