Coastal Walks in Mediterranean Reviews
- Amalfi Coast Walking - Agriturismo
I would suggest that Explore give more detail about the level of walking experience needed, and more clarity on the gradient. A total ascent/descent doesn't give a clear picture of the gradient of the ascent/descent. I managed it but my companion and others on the trip found it much too difficult, which was disappointing for them. I had to miss out on the two later medium walks but still had a great time and loved the places that we visited.
- Walking in Madeira
Move this trip to the top of your list. Every location is just as magical as the other. Even though the island is small, each walk gives you a unique experience and a completely different feel than the previous walk. Benny was an amazing guide that has a true passion for his island. Not only does he educate you on everything from the geology to the flora, but he also does an amazing job of pushing you past your normal comfort zone. Motivating me to jump in extremely cold natural pools not once, but twice will be some of the lasting memories I have from thus trip.
- Walking the Amalfi Coast
This was a great trip. Our guide, Enrico, was wonderful. He tried very hard to accommodate everyone and considering there were many fires around during our tour he optimized the timing and we had very little disruption to our activities Enrico also shared a great deal of local knowledge as well as environmental and botanic information. He was a wonderful guide and definitely made this trip wonderful. The staff at Hotel Due Torri was also very accommodating and friendly. They certainly fed us well after all our hiking. The Amalfi coast is absolutely gorgeous. There is a lot to see and do and the hikes are a wonderful way to get an intimate view of life in the area.
What our customers ask about Coastal Walks in Mediterranean
When is the best time to go on a Mediterranean Coastal Walk tour?
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) offer the most favorable conditions for Mediterranean coastal walks with comfortable temperatures and fewer tourists. The Amalfi Coast for instance sees its highest walking tour bookings during September and October when temperatures hover around 20-25°C. Properties like the Hotel Due Torri in Bomerano maintain their pool operations from mid-April to mid-October to match these prime walking conditions. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The spring weather was perfect for hiking with stunning views at every turn."
What fitness level is required for Mediterranean Coastal Walks?
These walks need a moderate level of fitness as routes feature regular elevation changes on varied terrain. Daily hikes on the Amalfi Coast typically last 4-6 hours with climbs and descents of 400-800 meters on old mule tracks and stone steps. A TourRadar traveler on the Corfu Trail shares: "The trails had beautiful views but were more difficult than described - steep inclines on rocky/sandy surfaces make good fitness essential." Tours usually rate their walks as moderate to challenging with participants needing endurance for 6-8 hours of daily walking.
What are some must-see highlights along Mediterranean coastal walks?
The coastal paths combine natural landscapes with historical sites. Notable spots include the Path of the Gods above Positano offering views across the Amalfi Coast the ancient stone settlements and olive groves along Corfu's western shore and Turkey's Lycian Way connecting archaeological sites with seaside locations. A TourRadar traveler notes from Corfu: "The coastal views were stunning with masses of wild flowers everywhere. We loved discovering sleepy villages pristine bays and Byzantine monasteries along the ancient stone paths." Routes often include UNESCO sites such as Ephesus in Turkey and coastal towns like Portoferraio on Elba island.
What type of accommodation can I expect on Mediterranean Coastal Walk tours?
Lodging consists mainly of family-operated hotels and agriturismos in coastal and hillside settings. The Due Torri Hotel in Bomerano provides traditional Campanian hospitality with pool access and mountain scenery while Luna d'Agerola offers cozy rooms with coastal-view terraces. Along Tenerife's walking routes hotels like Cuatro Esquinas in San Miguel de Abona combine local character with modern comforts. A TourRadar traveler shares: "The family-run hotel was a comfortable haven to return to each day with excellent local food and warm hospitality."
What should I pack for a Mediterranean Coastal Walk?
Key items include broken-in hiking boots with good ankle support lightweight layered clothing sun protection gear a 20-30L daypack and walking poles for steep sections. For stays at places like Hotel Club Phellos in Kas pack swimwear while accommodations like the Hideaway Hotel require warmer clothing for evening hours. A TourRadar traveler suggests: "Good walking shoes are essential as the terrain can be rough and steep." Remember to bring a water bottle and camera for the views.
What's included in the meals on Mediterranean Coastal Walking tours?
Tours typically cover daily breakfasts with regional specialties while some include trail lunches and group evening meals at local establishments. Amalfi Coast tours serve fresh Italian dishes and Turkey's coastal routes often feature traditional meals in village settings. According to a TourRadar traveler: "The food was excellent throughout - from picnic lunches with local ingredients to wonderful dinners at family-run restaurants overlooking the sea." Special dietary needs can be met with advance request.
