What people love about Greenland Tours
- Disko Bay (Includes Return Flight Copenhagen - Kangerlussuaq)
The tour was enjoyable and the Ocean Albatros is an outstanding boat! I thought the tour was a little too long for what was offered. It might be possible in future to reduce it to 5 or 6 days as the settlements visited are very small and there is not much to do if you are not a hiker. Perhaps two settlements could be visited in the one day. The lectures/presentations were generally very good but not all were professionally delivered. I had wanted much more information about the history, culture, and politics of Greenland and we could have begun early, say the second day, with the introduction to Greenlandic language and a few important words. Also, a little more attention to solo travellers like myself would have been appreciated. And may I suggest that the entertainment offerings could be updated in terms of the films available and also add a channel for classical music! I did enjoy my trip, my very first expedition cruise, but there is some fine tuning that can be done to make the experience even more enjoyable.

They paired with me a very difficult person who had lot of medical problems, was difficult to deal. Will stay up half of the night.so it was a mess.

Arctic expeditions come in two distinct varieties that our travelers keep telling us about. If you're drawn to Greenland's dramatic scenery, you'll paddle past massive icebergs in crystal waters and walk across ancient glaciers with professional equipment - the sound of ice crunching beneath your feet is something quite special. The other option takes you down the Dempster Highway where the Arctic wilderness really shows itself through regular wildlife sightings and endless tundra stretching to the horizon. You should know these aren't luxury tours - expect basic camping conditions, pack essential gear like headlamps for moving around after dark and plan for simple but genuine Arctic meals. Our past guests particularly love photographing wildlife in their natural habitat, especially polar bears, and many can't stop talking about experiencing the midnight sun during summer trips.

Our most popular Greenland expedition spans 10 days through Nuuk and Ilulissat, where you'll join local families for kaffemik gatherings and listen to age-old tales from Greenlandic storytellers. The walks up to the UNESCO Ice Fjord viewpoints give you amazing perspectives. For a shorter option, we've got a solid 5-day route through Narsarsuaq that takes you past icebergs to reach Qaqortoq and the old Hvalsoy church. Our customers particularly enjoy how this trip mixes natural wonders - like glacier views and valleys filled with thousands of flowers - with genuine cultural moments, meeting Greenlanders who share their crafts and daily life.

At GJ Travel, our travelers have found some gaps between what's promised and what actually happens on their trips - particularly when it comes to daily schedules and activities. It's one of those things we've heard about consistently in feedback. The main issue seems to be communication - when plans change, people aren't always kept in the loop properly. Tasermiut Tour does things differently though, and it shows in what people say about them. Their guides Eva and Enrico get mentioned a lot in reviews for really knowing their stuff and making the whole experience run smoothly. The food is straightforward but good, though we've had notes from quite a few active travelers saying they could use more protein-rich options to keep their energy up during long days outdoors. What's interesting is the contrast in how these companies handle the basics - Tasermiut has nailed down the fundamentals of keeping everyone informed and well-taken care of, while GJ Travel still needs to work on matching their service to what's in their brochures. The food situation at Tasermiut is a good example of how even well-run tours can have room for small improvements that would make a real difference to travelers. These details really matter when you're choosing a tour operator - it's the day-to-day experience that shapes how people feel about their trip, from having guides who know what they're doing to knowing what to expect each day.

Best places to start your Greenland tour
Most travelers start their Greenland adventure from Reykjavik, where we offer 21 different tours. Copenhagen runs 9 departure options, Kangerlussuaq has 4 tours and both Nuuk and Keflavik offer 3 starting points each. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your trip about 57 days ahead - that's just under two months before you plan to travel. The ice-filled Disko Bay and Ilulissat are particularly popular spots, especially around the UNESCO Heritage Icefjord where you get incredibly close to massive glaciers. Between the kayaking, guided hikes across ancient ice and chances to explore traditional settlements, spots fill up quickly. This is especially true in summer when the weather's perfect for getting out on the water and hitting the trails.
Discover Greenland tours for every budget
For travelers keeping costs in check, we've got some solid Greenland expeditions worth looking at. The 10-day Arctic Villages tour through East Greenland lets you experience local life up close - you'll stay in traditional houses and hike 6-7 hours each day across raw terrain. Our customers particularly love climbing Qeqqit Qaqqartivaat mountain; the views of fjords and glaciers from up there are incredible. There's also a great South Greenland route starting from Iceland where you'll weave through massive icebergs in Tunulliarfik fjord and walk on ancient ice sheets. These tours use simple but cozy hostels and fixed tents, so you get that real wilderness feel without spending too much.
Our premium Greenland voyages really take things up a notch. The 14-day Discovery Yacht trip from Iceland shows off the best of the Arctic in style - you get a private verandah suite and excellent food while sailing past the powerful Dynjandi waterfall and through Prince Christian Sound. Or take the voyage through Scoresby Sund, the world's biggest fjord system, where you can watch whales and gyrfalcons right from your deck before heading to the onboard spa. These ships are built specifically for Arctic waters, so they can get right up close to towering ice walls and squeeze through narrow fjords. You'll also get helicopter glacier flights, expert guides leading shore trips and visits to isolated spots like Ittoqqortoormiit.

The 10-day trips really let you discover the hidden corners of East and South Greenland. Starting from Reykjavik, you'll sail through Scoresby Sund - it's actually the largest fjord system in the world. Many of our TourRadar customers tell us they particularly enjoy joining the science projects while crossing the Denmark Strait; you'll work alongside researchers tracking environmental changes in real-time. If you're interested in Viking history, there's a great route that takes you to Qassiarsuk where Erik the Red once settled, before heading to the remote village of Kuummiit. The hiking here hits a nice middle ground - you'll tackle peaks like the 1100-meter Qeqqit Qaqqartivaat, which gives you incredible views across glaciers and fjords but won't wear you out completely.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Toronto, Kangerlussuaq, Disko Bay, Qeqqata
The 14-day journeys give you proper time to really understand Greenland's pace of life. Following old Viking routes across the Denmark Strait, you get four full days exploring the southern fjords and channels. Our travelers appreciate how flexible these trips are - the captain and expedition team adapt the route based on ice conditions, finding the best spots for wildlife and shore landings. You'll explore Ivittuut, an old mining town where musk oxen now roam freely, and sail deep into glacier-carved fjords. The trips end in Copenhagen or Reykjavik with enough time to explore these cities too. What makes these longer trips special is visiting tiny places like Qoornoq and Kapisillit - communities of fewer than 90 people who keep traditional life going despite being relatively close to Nuuk.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Kangerlussuaq, Kangaamiut, Evighedsfjorden, Nuuk, Qassiarsuk, Prins Christianssund, Skjoldungen, Tasiilaq, Reykjavik
Demographics
The Disko Bay expedition from Copenhagen works really well if you're traveling solo - it's got this natural way of bringing people together while you explore. Our travelers tell us they quickly make friends during walks through Sisimiut's old quarter and when watching the Eqi glacier break off into chunks right in front of them. The onboard talks add real depth; one guest mentioned how much they learned about Greenlandic language and daily life. There's also this excellent South Greenland trip where you'll join others to walk on glaciers (they provide the crampons) and paddle kayaks near massive icebergs. The shared experiences - like spotting whales next to your boat or trading stories over dinner - tend to create lasting friendships among our solo travelers.
Our senior tours combine proper comfort with solid exploration opportunities. The route linking Ilulissat's UNESCO Ice Fjord with stays at the Arctic Hotel is particularly popular. You can take your time on boat trips among the icebergs and join relaxed walking tours through local settlements. There's also this well-planned journey that starts in Reykjavík and follows Greenland's east coast - it's ideal if you want to see everything from a comfortable ship and make occasional stops at interesting places. Our older travelers often tell us they really value learning from the guides, who explain local customs, wildlife patterns and also historical details. You'll have plenty of time to explore at your own speed and meet local people in genuine settings.

Best time to visit Greenland
- Summer 2025
Summer's midnight sun lets you really dig into Greenland's wilderness. The multi-day trek from Karale Fjord to Tasilaq Fjord takes you through valleys full of Arctic flowers and past massive glacier faces. TourRadar customers love the three-glacier camping experience, where they drift off to sleep listening to ice calving into the fjord. South Greenland's Viking history comes alive on another route where you'll navigate through icebergs to reach isolated sheep farms and Norse ruins. For active travelers, we combine glacier walks with sea kayaking - you'll paddle among icebergs and trek the ancient ice sheet with crampons. The East Greenland village-to-village hikes are particularly good, with daily 6-7 hour walks leading to peaks offering complete views of fjords, glaciers and also the massive ice cap.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Autumn brings rich tundra colors and the Northern Lights return to Greenland's skies. Our Disko Bay cruises make the most of it - you'll explore the UNESCO Ice Fjord in golden light and might catch whales feeding before they migrate. Photography-focused tours time visits to remote settlements when the low Arctic sun creates perfect conditions. Our travelers really enjoy autumn hikes that mix wildlife watching with visits to small hunting communities, where locals share their traditional food preservation methods as they prepare for winter.
