What people love about Slovenia Tours
- Stunning Slovenia
This was a fantastic trip! I booked Stunning Slovenia, which went to all the best places of Slovenia and included trips east of Ljubljana, which I was interested in seeing. I wanted to see the whole country, hahah! Communication was fantastic, the itinerary was sent and easy to follow, my airport transfers were always perfectly on time, and guides were fantastic. The walking tour of Ljubljana was a great intro and easy on the first day and I was left with tons of time to do things on my own. The highlight of my tour was actually my guide, Dejan, he was just the best. We had rain in the beginning and the next day it was clear so he took me back to a beautiful overlook and wine garden to take pictures again, and really went above and beyond to show me the gorgeous highlights of such a stunning place. Thank you D!!!

Excellent Tour! Our driver/tour guide was wonderful. Very polite, very informative. The sights of Slovenia were outstanding. The hotels were first rate. Thank you for a wonderful time. Slovenia is truly Stunning!!
- Stunning Slovenia
Primoz was a wonderful guide and I loved seeing all the amazing places that he took us to. I was a little disappointed to start with as I thought the transport didn’t really allow us to see the marvelous countryside. I also thought Primoz should have had a small microphone as it was sometimes difficult to hear all that he was saying when you were in the back seats. I was upset that Primoz had to drive back to Ljubljana after he had driven us to Bohinj over the mountains and also he was not there for our final dinner.

The Alps truly mix up different experiences, from relaxing train rides through Switzerland's mountain passes to active outdoor sports in Slovenia's valleys. Our customers love combining the GoldenPass and Glacier Express routes, where guides share local stories and point out interesting features as the landscapes roll by. The Soca Valley has turned into quite a hotspot for those wanting some real action - you can go rafting through rapids and canyoning down gorges, with nice comfortable hotels waiting at day's end. If you head to the Mediterranean side, you can blend coastal walks in the Italian Riviera with time exploring Nice, Monaco and also Barcelona. We've noticed many travelers wish they had more time around Lake Como and Venice when doing Swiss-Italian tours, but they do appreciate how the trips balance mountain views with cultural stops. Summer visitors generally find June through August best for hiking, while September's quieter trails and soft light make photographers happy. For winter sports, December through March sees the slopes at their best, and our travelers often mention how mountain villages feel extra special under a blanket of snow.

Slovenia's Julian Alps offer some seriously good multi-day treks where you can combine proper hiking with nights in mountain huts. Many of our travelers start at Lake Bled before heading into Triglav National Park - the trails take you across alpine meadows and if you're up for it, you can attempt Mt. Triglav which sits at 2,864m. The hut-to-hut route from Pokljuka plateau to the Soča Valley is particularly good for experienced hikers; you'll get different views of the limestone peaks and mountain lakes each day. We've got another excellent trek that begins in Kranjska Gora and works its way through the Tamar Valley up to Vršič Pass. Our clients often tell us they love finding old WWI sites along these paths. If you prefer taking it easier, the Lake Bohinj area has lovely forest walks with mountain backdrops and plenty of spots to cool off in clear alpine lakes.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursSlovenia offers great cycling for all levels with routes that really showcase the country. The Julian Alps are a favorite - our clients love pedaling along riverside paths with mountains all around. Some routes start from Lake Bled and wind through forests before climbing into alpine territory, while others follow the gorgeous green Soča River. Wine enthusiasts who are strong cyclists can take on the more challenging roads through Brda's vineyards with plenty of tasting stops. One of our customers, 62 years old, recently told us the hybrid bikes worked perfectly for regular cyclists and we've got e-bikes too if you want a boost. Most trips run 6-8 days and include stops at the Škocjan Caves, Lipica's horses and medieval Piran to mix things up.
See all Bicycle toursOur most popular routes through Slovenia start in Ljubljana before heading east to explore some really special places. You'll spend time in the Štajerska region where you can walk up among the trees in Rogla and try local wines in Maribor's cellars. The journey takes you through Prekmurje which is fantastic for food lovers - they make amazing pumpkin seed oil here. Our travelers often tell us how much they enjoy visiting Slovenia's oldest town Ptuj and soaking in the thermal waters at Rogaška Slatina. These tours typically run 7-8 days which gives you proper time to understand what makes each region tick.

From what our travelers tell us, Intrepid really nails their Slovenia cycling tours. Their guides Davor and Tomi get lots of praise - they know the routes inside out and take good care of everyone on the road. The picture is a bit different with Palma DMC & To's "Stunning Slovenia" tour. While guides like Dejan and Ziga are clearly knowledgeable and the itinerary covers all the right spots, there are some practical issues that need work. The lack of porters has been tough for some groups, and seniors in particular found it challenging when their luggage had to be managed without help. The small van they use isn't ideal for larger groups and also caused some frustration. What's clear though is that Slovenia itself is a real gem. Our customers consistently tell us how much they love the warm welcome they get from locals, plus you get such variety - from mountain trails and lake views to charming old towns and coastal spots. It's still relatively quiet compared to some other European destinations, which adds to its appeal. The tour company you choose really makes a difference here - if you're looking at cycling specifically, Intrepid has proven they know what they're doing. Their support system and guide expertise help you focus on enjoying the ride rather than worrying about logistics.

"The places and the transportation organized are very well done. The flexibility of the activity enable us to still explore much of the city at our own pace. Only the hotel I wish can improve a level up. Everything else is very well done!!!

"Communication could have been a lot better. For instance our tour group was advised that a meet and greet session was to take place on the day before the tour started. It did not happen and there was no notification. The tour minivan was much too small for 8 people. We were all aged 70s and 80s and squashed into a small van, 3 to a seat. It was also difficult for some of us to negotiate a tight squeeze to get into the van. Those of us in the back seat could not hear anything the guide was saying which is the whole point of doing a tour and gaining information on what you are seeing. The guide should have had microphone equipment. The places we visited were fabulous and well thought out for a good tour of Slovenia. The guide was first class and we could not fault him. He was well organised, very helpful and flexible and well knowledged on the areas we visited. Highly enthusiastic. He was the best guide I have ever met or heard on a tour.

"I loved my experience. The people I met were so kind and inclusive of everyone and we had so much fun every day. I loved that you could do your own thing in each city or have the option to do activities as a group. The freedom g adventures provides allows you to get what you want out of your trip instead of being stuck to a strict schedule of activities you may not want to do. I definitely plan to do another trip in thefuture!

Best places to start your Slovenia tour
Ljubljana works perfectly as the main jumping-off point for Slovenia trips, with 37 of our travelers starting there. Bled, right by the lake, is our second busiest departure spot with 24 starts, and Kranjska Gora welcomes 11 groups from its position at the Alps' doorstep. We've found that booking about 7 weeks ahead works well - our statistics show most people book around 48 days before travel, which helps them get the dates and places they want, especially in summer. The food scene really stands out to our clients, who love how Alpine and Mediterranean flavors come together in local dishes. They often mention the farm-fresh restaurants and small family wineries that make Slovenia's food culture so special. If you're looking for nice weather but fewer tourists, May and September hit that sweet spot - perfect timing to explore both the capital city and quiet mountain paths.
Discover Slovenia tours for every budget
When you're keeping an eye on costs while exploring Slovenia, our self-guided bike tours through the Julian Alps make good sense. You'll spend 5-7 days cycling from Kranjska Gora, past the Russian Chapel on Vršič road and down to where the Soča River bubbles up in Trenta. The route takes you through fascinating WWI sites at Kolovrat mountain before winding up in the wine country of Goriška Brda. Each day covers 48-60km with steady climbs - nothing too intense if you're a regular cyclist with decent fitness. If hiking's more your style, try the 3-day self-guided Mount Triglav climb starting at Lake Bohinj. You'll head through Voje Valley and spend nights in mountain huts eating local dishes. For water lovers, our Soča Valley weekend packs rafting, canyoning and kayaking into three active days, using simple lodging to keep prices down.
Our high-end tours blend outdoor activities with top-tier comfort and local flavors. The 10-day comfort circuit kicks off in Ljubljana where you'll walk the colorful streets with a private guide before taking the funicular up to the medieval castle. We've picked excellent hotels as you explore Slovenia's diverse regions - you'll cycle through Vipava Valley vineyards and learn cheese-making in the Alps. Over in eastern Slovenia, you can walk among treetops in Rogla's forest and enjoy private wine tastings in the beautiful Jeruzalem area. Many guests love taking breaks at the Rogaška Slatina thermal spa between cultural stops. The "Alps to Sea" journey connects mountain activities with coastal relaxation, featuring door-to-door transfers and carefully chosen hotels throughout.

Slovenia works really well for solo travelers, offering a nice balance of group activities and free time to explore. Our multi-day trips through the Julian Alps include guided segments but build in plenty of personal discovery time. People traveling alone tell us they love starting in Ljubljana - you get oriented with a walking tour, then have afternoons to wander. The Lake Bohinj tours are especially popular since you can join group hikes or head off for a solo paddle. With small groups of 7-12 people, our active tours combining cycling and hiking create natural opportunities to make friends while keeping your independence.
Couples find Slovenia perfect for creating shared memories while keeping the romance alive. Many choose routes staying at Lake Bled's lakeside hotels, combining cozy evenings with daytime rides up to Julian Alps viewpoints. The Goriška Brda wine region tours let you cycle between vineyards and enjoy private tastings together. Active mornings hiking Vintgar Gorge or cycling along the Soča River lead into relaxed afternoons exploring old towns or joining cooking classes. Adding time in Piran with its Venetian squares, harbors and nearby salt pans gives couples that perfect mix of mountains and Mediterranean charm.
Young adults come to Slovenia ready for real outdoor challenges. Our Julian Alps treks involve serious hut-to-hut hiking with chances to summit Mount Triglav for those up for it. The Soča River valley delivers proper adventures combining white water rafting with deep canyon descents. Cyclists can choose anything from easy Lake Bled loops to tackling the 50 hairpin turns climbing Vršič Pass. Many pick routes mixing these physical challenges with stops at WWI sites along the Walk of Peace trail and end their active days sampling wines at local vineyards.
Our senior travelers appreciate how we've designed tours matching different activity levels. Many start with easy walks through Ljubljana's historic center before heading to Lakes Bled and Bohinj. They often mention loving our comfortable hotels and guides who adjust the walking pace just right. Wine country routes include scenic drives with short walks between tastings, and we always handle luggage transfers between stops. While some seniors tackle full day hikes when the terrain works, others enjoy the coastal section around Piran and Izola with its level paths, sea views and plenty of cafe stops.
Our family tours through Slovenia mix learning with plenty of fun stops that keep everyone engaged. Starting in Ljubljana, kids get excited about the dragon bridges and riding the castle funicular. At Lake Bled, taking a wooden pletna boat to the island church is always a highlight. The Postojna Cave train journey lets families rest while seeing impressive limestone formations, and the Lipica stud farm's white horses capture everyone's imagination. Over in Piran, the beaches provide a perfect break with ice cream stops nearby. Guides make the experience special by sharing stories about cave salamanders and medieval castle tales that kids remember long after the trip.

When spring arrives, the hiking really comes into its own as flowers pop up across the alpine meadows. Lake Bohinj makes an ideal base for daily walks, including routes to the impressive Savica Waterfall and through Mostnica Gorge. Our travelers say May hits the perfect balance - good hiking weather but quieter trails. Many routes mix walking with cultural stops in medieval towns like Skofja Loka and scenic train rides through the springtime countryside. The Alpe Adria Trail sections work particularly well in spring, with clear markers guiding you from Kranjska Gora through valleys full of flowers and into traditional villages.

Autumn brings perfect weather for both cycling and hiking across Slovenia. The Julian Alps trails quiet down but stay accessible, while the Brda wine region buzzes with grape harvest activity. September and October trips are particularly good - our customers love combining Lake Bled hikes with visits to local wineries. Several routes take advantage of autumn's clear light for photos, especially in the Soca Valley where fall colors pop against the green river. Cultural tours work really well in autumn too, mixing visits to Predjama Castle and Postojna Cave with seasonal food experiences in village communities.

Slovenia's winter opens up some excellent snowshoeing possibilities through the Julian Alps. Our clients tell us they love how these snowy walks hit the sweet spot between good exercise and taking in the mountain views. You'll walk across snow-covered plateaus to reach cozy mountain huts and learn to spot wildlife tracks in Kocevje's forests. The overnight stays up on Komna plateau are quite special - nothing beats the quiet of a mountain refuge above the snowline. Some tours mix things up with stops at Ljubljana's Christmas markets and local wine cellars before heading up into the mountains. If you're interested in culture too, winter tours often combine visits to Bled Castle with snowshoe walks around the frozen lake and trips to the Škocjan Caves, which stay at steady temperatures all year.
