What people love about Rome Tours
- Local Living Italy—Tuscany San Gimignano
Veronica is exceptional as a guide. She is very organized, knowledgeable and fun to be with.
- 5-day Best of Italy: Rome, Florence & Venice
We had a wonderful time on this tour. We were so happy to have stayed at the Carlton while we were in Venice, where we were able to enjoy a view of the grand canal! Our other accommodation in Florence was good too - a little far from the city center, but the 20 minute walk over is scenic and beautiful! Both hotels had great breakfasts with lots of choice! The meals included were ok at first, and got better as the trip continued. All very authentic Italian restaurants and all were 3 course meals! So we can’t complain! Our guide Patricia was great! She knew a lot about the history of each city we visited - the only thing I suggest is perhaps getting to know more of the restaurants/gellato places in each area so you can make the beat recommendations to your guests. Otherwise it was a great trip! My cousin and I are young adults in our 20’s - but we highly recommend this for families as the pace of the trip was quite moderate and didn’t require intense walking. Lots of free time to explore on your own! With great (optional at extra cost) daytime excursions! We chose the day trip to Pisa which was one of the highlights of this trip! And we also did a museum excursion while in Florence where we got to see the sculpture of David! Highly recommend! They also offered a excursions for a gondola ride and walking night tour in Venice. The bus was very comfortable and the AC is fantastic! We slept on every ride from city to city! This is probably one of the cheapest tours you can get! So considering value for money, you get a whole lot out of it and you get to see so much of Italy and knock off all the tourist attractions on your list! One thing that I can suggest: We didn’t get to do a wine tasting in Montepulciano (Tuscany) and wish that was included in the package. We had the option to do one in Assisi but given time restraints we didn’t have the chance to.
- La Dolce Vita Experience
The tour was fantastic and the hotel Michaelangelo in Sorrento was amazing. The service and meals were perfect. The only part of the tour that was disappointing was the tour in Naples . Also the initial pick up for our tour from Rome to the bigger tour bus was delayed and for over an hour 1/2 wait . We almost gave up and we would have missed a great tour . Our tour guide to Capri and Sorrento was fabulous. Capri was one of our favorite spots on our vacation.
What our customers ask about Rome Tours & Trips
What are the best months to visit Rome for sightseeing and comfortable weather?
Rome's most pleasant visiting period falls between April and mid-June or September to October. During these months temperatures hover around 20-25°C (68-77°F) with fewer tourists at major sites. A TourRadar traveler noted about their spring visit: "The weather was perfect for exploring the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica." Consider staying at Hotel Vesuvio near Termini Station for easy city access. Skip August's intense heat when temperatures exceed 30°C (86°F) and locals close shop for vacation. Winter brings occasional rain but the trade-off is shorter lines at the Colosseum and Roman Forum.
What are some lesser-known but impressive churches to visit in Rome?
Rome houses numerous remarkable churches beyond the famous St. Peter's Basilica. The Basilica of San Clemente showcases three levels of architecture spanning two millennia while Santa Maria Maggiore sits near Hotel Tritone. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The Church of St. Louis of the French with its Caravaggio paintings was incredible and far less crowded than major basilicas." Santa Maria in Trastevere displays intricate golden mosaics and the Basilica of Santa Prassede holds exceptional Byzantine artwork.
How much time should I allocate for visiting the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel?
The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel deserve 3-4 hours for proper exploration. With over 70,000 works across 54 galleries visitors need adequate time to appreciate the collections. The best times to visit are early morning (8-10am) or late afternoon (3-5pm) when crowds thin out. A TourRadar traveler notes: "Our guided Vatican tour was incredible - having skip-the-line access and an expert guide made all the difference in appreciating the art and history." Hotel Villa Rosa near St. Peter's Square offers convenient Vatican access.
What neighborhood is best for experiencing local Roman life?
Monti Rome's oldest residential district between the Colosseum and Termini Station provides an authentic slice of Roman life. The area features cobblestone streets local wine bars (enotecas) and boutique shops while remaining walkable to major attractions. As one TourRadar traveler shares: "Staying in Monti gave us a real feel for Roman daily life - the morning cafes evening aperitivo and neighborhood restaurants were highlights." Hotel Aberdeen in Monti serves as an ideal base for cultural immersion.
What are some good day trips from Rome?
Day trips from Rome open up Italy's rich history and landscapes. Visit Pompeii's ancient ruins (2.5 hours by train) explore Renaissance Florence (1.5 hours via high-speed rail) or discover hilltop Orvieto (1 hour by train). A TourRadar traveler recommends: "The day trip to Castel Gandolfo with its Papal Palace and gardens was a highlight of our Rome visit." Hotel Tritone's concierge can arrange transportation to the Amalfi Coast or Frascati's wine country.
How much should I budget per day for meals in Rome?
Daily meal costs in Rome average 50-75 USD including breakfast at hotels like St. Martin near the historic center. Expect to pay 15-20 USD for casual lunch at trattorias and 30-40 USD per person for dinner at mid-range restaurants. One TourRadar traveler suggests: "The best value meals were away from tourist areas - we found amazing pasta for 12 USD near Campo de' Fiori market." Set aside extra funds for food tours in Testaccio Market or wine tastings in the Jewish Ghetto.
