What people love about Colombia Tours
- Colombia Express
Fantastic tour and a great way to see some of the highlights of Colombia in an express way. Our tour guide Marco was amazing, always going out of his way to ensure everything ran smoothly and was very knowledgeable and passionate about Colombia. Would definitely recommend this tour! The accommodation was surprisingly better than most tours I've ever even been on, always in great locations, spacious and very comfortable.
- Colombia Express
We had a great time and made some lifelong friends!
- Colombia Express
A good introductory tour of Colombia. Standout experiences were the walking tour around central Medellin and the optional visit to Comuna 13 in Medellin with a guide to explain the history of Medellin's troubles and the origin of the street art. Be sure to add additional time in Bogota as the trip spends virtually no time there and the city boasts a wonderful Gold Museum, the Botero Museum and more. Also know that Bogota is about 8,000 feet above sea level and you may not feel great until you get used to the altitude so some extra time helps there too.

Machu Picchu stands as the crowning jewel of Andean experiences, where our travelers consistently tell us that photographs simply can't capture its true scale and majesty. The ancient Inca citadel reveals itself differently throughout the day as clouds drift past, creating an almost mystical atmosphere that leaves visitors spellbound. The Inca Trail journey itself has become legendary among our customers - it's a genuine mountain adventure with challenging ascents, ancient stone pathways and nights spent camping under star-filled skies. Our guides, who share deep knowledge of Inca history and local ecology, have earned particular praise for turning what could be just a tough trek into an enriching cultural experience. Travelers often describe how the changing ecosystems along the trail, from cloud forests to alpine grasslands, create a sense of walking through multiple worlds in just a few days.

The Lost City trek stands as Colombia's most talked-about multi-day hike, taking 4-5 days through the Sierra Nevada mountains. Local indigenous guides lead you up 1,200 ancient stone steps while sharing stories of their culture - something our travelers really connect with. The routine is simple: 6-8 hours of daily hiking through humid jungle and river crossings, then nights in basic camps along the way. You'll need decent fitness for this one, but past guests tell us the archaeological site at the end makes every sweaty step worthwhile. If you're after shorter walks, combining Tayrona National Park with Santa Marta works really well. The park's trail system weaves through tropical forest to quiet beaches, and you can pick anything from easy walks to full-day hikes with local communities.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursColombia offers a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and stunning landscapes for active travelers. Many 8- to 12-day trips start in Medellín, where the story of Comuna 13 comes alive through vibrant street art. From there, climb the 650 steps of El Peñol in Guatapé for breathtaking valley views. On the Caribbean coast, enjoy jungle river tubing, snorkeling around the Rosario Islands, and surf lessons near Buritaca. In the coffee region, explore traditional haciendas by 4x4 and learn how your morning brew is made. For those seeking more remote experiences, the Sierra Nevada mountains offer waterfall hikes and the chance to meet indigenous communities. Adventurous travelers can take on the challenging Lost City Trek, navigating humid jungle trails and steep climbs with refreshing stream swims along the way. For something more relaxed, coastal tours include beach walks, gentle tubing, and snorkeling. Mountain programs feature hikes near Minca and stunning views from El Peñol. Whether exploring colonial towns with local guides, walking coffee farms, or sharing stories after a day of adventures, these trips create unforgettable memories and lasting friendships.
See all Active toursColombia's real adventures start with our most popular expedition - a 4-day trek to the Lost City where you'll climb 1,200 ancient stone steps through dense jungle to reach impressive pre-Colombian ruins. It's tough going but our travelers come back saying it was totally worth it. The coffee region tours are another fantastic option where you'll stay in traditional haciendas, get hands-on with local farmers to learn about coffee making and walk among the world's tallest wax palms in Cocora Valley. Along the Caribbean coast, we'll take you from the colonial streets of Cartagena to secluded beaches in Tayrona National Park and authentic indigenous villages. Many travelers also love exploring Medellín's Comuna 13, where outdoor escalators and meaningful street art tell powerful stories of neighborhood transformation.

Looking at traveler feedback across different tour companies, G Adventures and OneSeed come out quite well in the ratings. Our customers consistently mention how smoothly their trips run, and they really appreciate having guides who know their stuff. Both companies also get high marks for their ethical practices and responsible tourism approach. On the flip side, we've had some less positive feedback about TruTravels from people who've booked with us. The main issues they bring up are itineraries that feel rushed or poorly thought out, pretty basic accommodation options and a general feeling that they didn't get what they paid for. Lead Adventures has run into similar problems - their hotel choices have been a particular sticking point for many travelers and people often tell us the actual trip doesn't match what was promised in the itinerary. Quite a few customers have mentioned arriving at destinations only to find schedule changes they weren't told about. G Adventures and OneSeed really stand out because they're consistently delivering what they promise. Their guides tend to be locals who know the areas inside out, and they're good at handling all those small details that make a trip run smoothly. Whether it's transport logistics, accommodation quality or just having someone knowledgeable to answer questions, they seem to have figured out the right formula.

"I did the Cafe Colombia intrepid tour in November 2024. This was an excellent tour with the brilliant Santiago as our tour leader. The accommodation throughout was really good and the coaches and buses were comfortable. There were some great highlights. Staying at the coffee farm and taking the coffee tour was just an incredible experience. Colombia is a such a beautiful country and each stop on the tour was fascinating, enjoyable and really worthwhile. The pace of the tour was good and while there were a couple of early starts, we had plenty of time for relaxation too. We were lucky to have Santiago as our group leader. He is knowledgeable, friendly, professional and very helpful. He went out of his way to ensure we had a real understanding of everything. Nothing was too much trouble and he had some great suggestions for restaurants and salsa bars! When the internal airline cancelled one of our internal flights, he handled it really well and got us all on the next flight. I would highly recommend this tour.

Best places to start your Colombia tour
Most people kick off their Colombia trip from Bogota - it's the starting point for 54 of our tours, while Cartagena handles 16 departures, Santa Marta runs 11 tours and Medellín and Leticia round things out with 9 and also 3 tours. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your tour about 50 days ahead to sort out flights and visas comfortably. If you're thinking about December or July trips, book even earlier since these popular months fill up fast. Our travelers tell us two weeks is the sweet spot for seeing Colombia's highlights, though three weeks gives you room to explore lesser-known spots and really dig into the culture. Want to dodge the crowds? Try April-June or September-November - you'll often find better deals and good weather in most places, though keep an umbrella handy for those afternoon showers that pop up here and there.

Coffee lovers can stay in traditional haciendas and visit working farms to learn everything about coffee from plant to cup. City tours connect Bogotá's gold museum and colonial center with Medellín's Comuna 13 and finally Cartagena's walled city, though our customers often say it feels a bit rushed if you want to properly explore each place.

Solo travelers particularly enjoy our Colombia trips that combine cultural immersion with social opportunities. A stand-out choice takes you across 7 different destinations, starting with local market visits in colonial Bogota before heading up into coffee country. Our guests consistently praise the small group sizes and how the itineraries mix active exploration with chances to connect - you'll walk through Cocora Valley's towering wax palms, learn traditional coffee farming techniques and spend evenings getting to know fellow travelers in characterful local restaurants. Another top pick ventures into more remote areas around Cartagena and Santa Marta, where you'll explore indigenous communities and take refreshing dips in jungle waterfalls. The guides make a huge difference here - they're skilled at bringing solo travelers together while respecting everyone's independence.
Our younger travelers love getting stuck into Colombia's most energetic experiences. One route that's really taken off starts in Medellin where you'll dive into street art culture and local nightlife before heading out to jungle trails, waterfalls and river rapids. There's plenty of Caribbean island time too - you can hop between beaches, grab a snorkel to explore clear waters and end your days around a bonfire watching the stars come out. Another favorite has you tackling El Peñol's 650 stairs (trust me, the views are worth it), getting hands-on at coffee farms and diving into Cartagena's evening buzz. Our guests tell us they love how these trips blend real cultural experiences with social time - one minute you're learning about local transformation projects, the next you're picking up salsa moves with residents in Comuna 13.
Our senior travelers really appreciate how we pace things in Colombia - no rushing, just time to properly experience each place. One 13-day trip that gets great feedback shows you Colombia's different sides while staying in lovely character hotels where you can properly settle in. You'll explore Bogota's Gold Museum, join cooking sessions in traditional haciendas and chat with coffee farmers about their craft. We've got another route that focuses on colonial heritage where you'll wander Barichara's old streets, visit local artisans and take some beautiful drives through Chicamocha Canyon. Our guides are great at reading the group's rhythm and many guests mention how much they enjoy having free time between the organized activities.
