What people love about Hiking & Trekking Tours in Amazon Rainforest
- 5 days - Tambopata Amazon Jungle
We had a great time on our tour! Our guide, Yuri, we amazing. The only thing I would change is that we probably could have done everything in 3 or 4 days instead of 5; there was plenty of down-time.
- Macaw clay lick and sandoval lake 5D/4N
It was a great experience overall. The guides were good. On the 5 day, it's quite an interruption to switch locations - I wonder if this could be made smoother. There is also the issue of illegal mining right alongside the Tambopata lodge, and the lodge is deforesting land itself for a banana plantation - we'd hope there would be ways to resolve this, and really steer the lodge into being a force for good in the environment. It would be ideal to add a few extra clothes lines for guests.
- 4-Day Iquitos Jungle Tour at Maniti Eco-Lodge
After reading some of the reviews on Tour Radar's website, we were a little skeptical about this tour. The reviews were absolutely incorrect. We were busy from the time we arrived at the lodge and didn't have much down time, which was fine with us as we wanted to soak up as much of the jungle as we could. The food was delicious and there was always more than plenty for all the guests at the lodge. Our guide was Camilo and he was great! He was very sweet and very knowledgeable about the jungle and all the animals and plant life. He always made sure we were safe and as comfortable as we could be. It was very hot and humid, but the lodge provided all the water you could drink and the nights were fairly cool. All of the drivers and lodge staff were very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this tour to friends! Thanks for everything!
What our customers ask about Hiking & Trekking Tours & Trips in Amazon Rainforest
What's the best time of year for hiking in the Amazon Rainforest?
The dry season from June to November presents the most accessible hiking conditions in the Amazon with firmer trails and clearer paths. The Puerto Maldonado area sees its best weather during July and August with temperatures staying around 85°F (29°C). Trail conditions become more challenging during the wet season from December to May when regular downpours affect hiking schedules. For the best chance to see wildlife plan your hikes between 6-10am when animals are most active. A TourRadar traveler notes "even in dry season expect some afternoon showers - it's the rainforest after all!"
What wildlife can I expect to see while hiking in the Amazon Rainforest?
The Tambopata Reserve stands out as a prime example of the Amazon's biodiversity with over 600 bird species and 100 different mammals calling it home. Visitors on morning walks often spot various monkey species in the canopy while night hikes reveal a different cast of characters including caimans and tree frogs. According to a TourRadar traveler "During our hike we encountered capuchin monkeys squirrel monkeys and even giant river otters at Lake Sandoval." The elevated walkways at places like Inkaterra give visitors a unique view into the upper canopy ecosystem.
What type of accommodation can I expect on multi-day Amazon hikes?
Lodging in the Amazon ranges from basic camping setups to well-appointed eco-lodges. The Maniti Eco-Lodge provides private bungalows equipped with mosquito nets while more rustic options await in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve. One TourRadar guest reported "staying at the Tambopata Eco Lodge was a highlight - falling asleep to jungle sounds in a comfortable bed with private bathroom." Most facilities run on limited electricity and feature communal dining spaces. Some tours include stays with indigenous communities adding a cultural dimension to the hiking experience.
How long are typical hiking days in the Amazon Rainforest?
Amazon hikes typically span 2-6 hours with schedules built around weather patterns and wildlife activity. The Pacaya Samiria area offers morning walks of 2-3 hours while full-day treks can reach 5-6 hours including rest stops. A TourRadar visitor at Maniti Eco-Lodge shared "we did most hikes early morning (6-10am) and late afternoon (4-6pm) to avoid peak heat and see more wildlife." Tours often mix hiking with boat trips and local community visits adjusting plans based on conditions and group ability.
Are family-friendly hiking options available in the Amazon Rainforest?
The Amazon welcomes families with children as young as 5 years old offering adapted hiking experiences. The Tambopata Reserve features gentle trails and elevated walkways while properties like Inkaterra run dedicated children's programs. A family on TourRadar shared "The guides adapted the pace and information for our kids making the jungle walks fun and educational. The caiman spotting and monkey watching were particular highlights for the children." Family hikes typically last 1-2 hours with frequent stops for rest and wildlife observation.
