What people love about Rongai Route Tours
- Mt Kilimanjaro Trek - Rongai Route
This was an awesome trip! Gerald and his dream team of CEOs (Roland, Said and Sadam) took a really good care of our group. Their constant positivity and happiness was contagious and I could not have wished for a better experience on this trip. Further, the tour was very well organized, meals were tasty and nutritious, and the CEO team always knew what was needed without asking. The entire support team worked really hard but they made it seem easy. If it wasn't for them, we would not have gotten to summit. It was a great pleasure to know and travel with Gerald's dream team. Would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro.

We, 4 travellers from USA, are so happy to choose this company for our Kilimanjaro expedition via Rongai route. At first we tried this mountain in 2014 but we were not able to reach the summit ( altitude sickness). This time it was not difficult at all- thanks more time and excellent support from our guide Sunday and the whole team, assistant guide, porters, cook and Steppe Dogs Adventures management. Sunday was very helpful and professional, and gave us the best tips to avoid the mountain sickness. We were so happy, to reach Uhuru at 6.00 am! Thanks Sunday and the team. Tutaonana tena!!

The Rongai Route stands out as the only path approaching Kilimanjaro from the northern side near Kenya offering a quieter experience away from crowds. The route's steady climb takes you through pine forests moorlands and alpine desert zones making it easier for your body to adjust to higher altitudes. Recent travelers report seeing only four other groups during their entire journey with one noting "We basically were just 4 groups on the route the whole way very peaceful." The path begins at Nalemuru Gate and ends at Marangu Gate with stops at well-positioned camps. Many hikers appreciate the route's local wildlife especially the Colobus monkeys and the clear views from spots like Mawenzi Tarn at 4330 meters.
What accommodation options are available on the Rongai Route?

The final push to the summit starts around midnight from either Kibo Camp at 4700 meters or School Hut at 4715 meters. This demanding section takes 6-8 hours to climb and 4-6 hours to descend. The route passes through Hans Meyer Cave at 5150 meters and Gillman's Point at 5681 meters before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5895 meters.
