What people love about Alberta Tours
- Glacier National Park & the Canadian Rockies
Lynda Brown did a fantastic job! Gerard as our driver was also phenomenal. My only suggestion is to have a microphone for Lynda at the dinner on the last night. I could not hear Lynda or the cowboy poet.
- Active Canadian Rockies Adventure
Most amazing views! Spectacular sites, wonderful hikes and hitting so many beautiful locations in one trip. Food, however was very lack luster and was clearly chosen to save money. Bring your own granola bars and maybe some protein powder to add to your oatmeal at breakfast and you should be good for a week.
- Canada's Rockies (Base, 8 Days) (8 destinations)
Our tour was everything we hoped, for. Our coach was comfortable and driver Rich very capable and nice guy. We had plenty of stops throughout tour for photo opportunity, snacks, lunch, etc. all extra excursions were fabulous and fun. All accommodation was excellent and situated within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars etc. We had lots of onboard entertainment and we learned a lot about Canada and importantly The First Nation people. Thank you to Ben Hutchinson our very knowledgeable tour guide who brought it all together. I know that each and every one of our coach feel very fortunate that we had Ben on board. Lucky us and thank you Trafalgar

"Right after booking this tour I realised it was 20% cheaper on the tour operators website. Not only was the tour itself $700 more on tourradar but even the optional extras like the banff gondola were more expensive, which is shocking. Noting this I wouldn't recommend booking with tourradar. The tour itself was quite nice. The Banff and Lake Louise areas are amazing and hard to get wrong. The tour guides were quite friendly and helpful. Note that this isn't a regular tour. It appears to be a daily grouping based on different bookings. So we were on different buses and had different people on the bus depending on the day.

Best places to start your Alberta tour
Most Alberta tours kick off from Calgary, with 59 of our customers starting there, while Vancouver serves as the second choice with 27 departures. You'll want to lock in your plans about 4 months ahead (that's 114 days) especially if you're hoping to eat at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise or have specific places to stay in mind. This timing really matters during summer when the lakes and parkway routes get busy with visitors from everywhere. Our guests often tell us they prefer late spring or early fall - you get nice weather, fewer people around and better luck booking those nicer hotels. Winter brings its own special experiences with ice walks, snowshoeing and frozen waterfalls, though you'll need proper gear for those below-freezing temperatures.
Discover Alberta tours for every budget
The 4-day Rockies winter tours hit the sweet spot for value-focused travelers, covering all the essentials without breaking the bank. You'll jump into fun activities like free snow tubing at SilverStar Resort, glide across Lake Louise's ice and explore Banff's network of trails. Our groups really connect during the included evening marshmallow roasts - it's a great way to share stories after active days outdoors. The 3-night hotel stays are comfortable and clean, though some mention breakfast could use an upgrade. Traveling by larger bus keeps costs down while getting you to Johnston Canyon, Emerald Lake and also Mount Norquay.
The luxury experience centers on stays at the grand Fairmont hotels - starting with Lake Louise views from your Chateau room, then the magnificent Banff Springs "Castle" and finally the cozy elegance of Jasper Park Lodge. Adding the Rocky Mountaineer train, especially in GoldLeaf class, elevates things further with glass-dome cars and chef-prepared meals. Our guests particularly value the special touches: chatting with retired Mounties about mountain tales, private guided walks at Lake Louise and also exclusive Dark Sky viewing sessions in Jasper National Park.

Our week-long Rocky Mountain tours come in two distinct styles - relaxed hotel-based explorations and immersive camping experiences. The hotel tours take you through five national parks from Calgary, covering Waterton Lakes, Kootenay, Banff, Yoho and also Jasper. Our customers consistently praise the guides who share detailed knowledge about local wildlife and history. The camping tours focus on hands-on outdoor experiences, with guided hikes to alpine lakes and meadows before gathering around evening campfires. You'll travel the Icefields Parkway, stopping at Peyto Lake, Bow Lake and also the Columbia Icefield. Some tours include rafting the rapids of Kicking Horse River and guided walks to historic mountain tea houses.

The 10-day journeys blend luxury stays at grand railway hotels with active outdoor experiences. What makes these special are unique moments like chatting with retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers and riding the Rocky Mountaineer through mountain passes. Our travelers like how we mix guided activities with free time to explore mountain towns. Some tours line up with the Calgary Stampede, adding rodeo events and First Nations cultural experiences to the mountain journey.

Our two-week tours combine hiking and canoeing for total Rocky Mountain immersion. Week one centers on trails around Banff, Lake Louise and also Jasper National Parks, with routes matched to group abilities. Week two switches to paddling adventures - you'll navigate 160km down the Athabasca River in two-person canoes. Our guests sleep on riverside beaches and sandy islands, often seeing beavers, eagles and moose along forested shores. These longer tours connect with active travelers wanting to experience the mountains from both trail and river perspectives. The guides know their stuff - teaching proper camping, hiking and also paddling skills while sharing deep knowledge of local ecology.

Demographics
The 4-day Coho Rockies Explorer draws solo travelers who click right away while hiking Peyto Lake and exploring Mistaya Canyon together. The hostel setup makes it easy to connect, and guides like Steph and Gabriel create a really welcoming vibe. You can walk right up to Athabasca Glacier's edge and taste pure glacier water with your new trail buddies. After active days capturing photos of those turquoise lakes and spotting wildlife, everyone gathers around the campfire at wilderness hostels for home-cooked potluck dinners and also trading stories about their daily discoveries.
For couples, our multi-day tours featuring grand Fairmont hotels hit all the right notes. Many book stays at the "Castle in the Rockies" - the Banff Springs Hotel - and the Chateau Lake Louise where the lakeshore trail begs for romantic walks and horse-drawn carriage rides set the mood. At Jasper Park Lodge, cozy cabins tucked into the mountains create perfect private retreats. Couples love choosing between guided activities or exploring on their own time - whether that's soaking in Radium Hot Springs, taking gondola rides for mountain views or also indulging in fine meals at historic hotel restaurants.
The Coho and Caribou tours attract young adults with their mix of activity and social vibes. Groups quickly become friends while paddleboarding on Skaha Lake, kayaking Lake Revelstoke and hiking to those famous blue lakes everyone's seen on Instagram. You'll share Indigenous-inspired meals, search for the legendary Ogopogo monster and also zoom down mountains on the Revelstoke Coaster. The hostel stays keep prices reasonable while creating natural hangout spots, plus there's freedom to join extra activities like whitewater rafting or mountain biking in Banff.
Our small group tours with comfortable hotels and well-planned stops attract senior travelers consistently. The 5-6 day routes balance activity with rest time, making photo stops at Bow Falls, Surprise Corner and also the Hoodoos. You get proper time to take in Lake Louise and Moraine Lake without feeling rushed. Our guides share rich details about geology, wildlife and history that our older guests particularly enjoy. Easy walking options around Johnston Canyon and lake shores, plus relaxed town explorations with plenty of rest stops, make these tours especially popular.

Best time to visit Alberta
- Spring 2025
Spring tours catch the Rockies as winter loosens its grip. The 5-day routes from Calgary hit that sweet spot when glacial lakes start to thaw, before summer brings the crowds. You'll reach Moraine Lake right as it opens, usually from late May, watching the ice break up to show those blue waters underneath. Our groups really like combining walks through Marble Canyon with warm soaks at Radium Hot Springs in Kootenay National Park. The Icefields Parkway drives work really well this time of year - you might spot mountain goats, elk and also bears coming out to feed on the new spring growth.

- Summer 2025
Summer's long days mean more time to explore Alberta's alpine areas. The 5-day summer circuits maximize time at Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and also Peyto Lake when their turquoise colors really pop. Our travelers appreciate the extra evening light for exploring Banff and Jasper towns after full days in the parks. These tours include a boat trip to Spirit Island on Maligne Lake, walks on the Athabasca Glacier and also rides up Sulphur Mountain's gondola for big valley views. The guides know exactly when to visit spots along the Icefields Parkway, avoiding the busy times while getting perfect photos.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Fall brings golden larches and quieter trails once the summer crowds head home. The 5-day autumn tours use the clear mountain air and steady weather for exploring Johnston Canyon, Maligne Canyon and also the Icefield Parkway's lookouts. Our September and October groups often see more wildlife - especially elk during rutting season around Jasper. You'll still visit all the major spots like Lake Louise and Moraine Lake before it closes for winter, but with better timing since the peak crowds are gone. Our travelers really like how the comfortable hiking temperatures pair with great photo light as the fall colors reach their peak. From what our travelers tell us, all three Calgary tour companies have their own strengths and quirks. Calgary Tours gets lots of praise for running smooth trips with guides who really know their stuff, though you might need to listen carefully since some guides have strong accents. Meanwhile, Discover Canada Tours has built quite a following thanks to Rhawnie - she's incredibly knowledgeable about the area and brings everything to life. Just keep in mind the Ranch dinner they include isn't anything special according to recent feedback. If you're up for something more active, Fresh Adventures offers some really unique hikes that other companies don't do, and guide Alex actually prepares amazing trail meals that our customers rave about. Just be aware - when they say "challenging" they mean it. Some of our travelers found the hiking more demanding than they expected, so it's worth having an honest chat about your fitness level before booking. These companies are all solid choices depending on what you're after - whether that's a classic sightseeing experience, learning from expert guides or getting off the beaten path with some serious hiking and excellent food along the way.
