The guides and itinerary were excelllent. One of the accommodations we were assigned to was almost like sleeping outside with the light and winds passing through the gaps ion the bamboo walls. Sleeping bag is morw suitable for this type of accommodation than just blankets. The food are the same everyday and so bland with flavors toned down for western standard to the point of tasteless.

This tour was one of the most humbling experiences of my life. The kindness and generosity of the hill tribe people was amazing. Most can not communicate with you, so for them to make you feel comfortable in something that is so different to what you are accustom to was nice. You need to have an open mind, truly. Our guide, John was: nice, polite, funny, helpful, and knowledgeable. However, here are some of my recommendations for future: 1. First day of this trek is not moderate, it is intense. It is uphill, in 30 plus degree weather, sun on your head, and starts at 7 a.m. (with 4h in the car to get to the trailhead). So bring water and rehydration tablets. Pack as light as possible, my sack felt like rocks on day 3. 2. Rice and chicken... And a lot of it. I am glad I brought snacks, protein bars and cash to pick stuff up. My stomach was not happy and craving sugar. 3. Bring extra cash. The hill tribes have souvenirs to buy, the guides/drivers/homestays usually want a tip. It’s awkward not having some to give out, even if not expected of you. 4. And bring a pocket wizard. The first Homestay has no power and if you use your phone as a camera, you will not have enough juice come the second day. I was on battery saver and my taking pics because didn’t know when next spot could charge was going to be. But other than that,

"Billed as a "Real food adventure" I was expecting a generally higher standard of Thai food. Most was cafe or street food quality. Included food was listed as "6 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 4 dinners" but for about half of these meals an allowance of 100 baht was included for meals typically 390 baht plus beverages leaving us to make up the difference. Having spent the time and money to go on that trip I would have no objection to paying more for a higher standard of included meals. Accommodation was adequate as was transport. At 73 I welcomed the large amount of 'free time' but younger people could have felt that more attractions would be welcome. Our guide Kung was excellent, good fun and knowledgeable. I should mention that Kung handled a difficult situation with one of the travelers very professionally much to the relief of our group.
