Chiang Mai Tour Companies

Billed as a "Real food adventure" I was expecting a generally higher standard of Thai food. Most was cafe or street food quality. Included food was listed as "6 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 4 dinners" but for about half of these meals an allowance of 100 baht was included for meals typically 390 baht plus beverages leaving us to make up the difference. Having spent the time and money to go on that trip I would have no objection to paying more for a higher standard of included meals. Accommodation was adequate as was transport. At 73 I welcomed the large amount of 'free time' but younger people could have felt that more attractions would be welcome. Our guide Kung was excellent, good fun and knowledgeable. I should mention that Kung handled a difficult situation with one of the travelers very professionally much to the relief of our group.

I was very appreciative of my local tour guide who was very experienced, had wonderful local knowledge and was really flexible to meet my needs. Thank you!

Boat trip on ha long bay was fantastic - food amazing and lots of activities. Our hotel on first night was changed and was disappointing but hotel on return was better

The tour was not good. 5 days really means 3 days. Parts of the 'tour' had no guide, and the guides that did attend gave very little interesting information.

Overall good except day to the islands.(James Bond etc) Itinerary says pick up at 7:30, then message it's 8:30. Waited at lobby till 9:20. Would be good if they send message to update the later time as causes anxiety whether tour on. Also requested reception for help but cannot contact anyone as no Thai operator listed.

Very well selected hotels; some even provided free upgrades. Extremely punctual transfers; the drivers were usually there 10-15 minutes before the agreed time. The German-speaking guides had room for improvement in terms of fluency, but were very engaging and knew the best times to visit and the best places (e.g. for sunset photos), and were able to give very good food recommendations.

Was a nice trip, despite high water before, they picked out a nice rest for us, the two guides were really great and super friendly

Es war eine sehr informative, interessante Rundreiese. Die Hotels super, besonders das Laluna in Chiang Rei. Mein Guide , Ooy, hat im perfektem Deutsch informiert, alle Fragen beantwortet und immer bemüht , dass die Reise unvergesslich wird. Ebenso engagiert war mein Reiseleiter N. ( Namen leider vergessen) für die ersten Tage in Bangkok!!!! Die Organisation war perfekt. Ich hatte nachmittags Zeit zum Relaxen und um die vielen Eindrücke zu verarbeiten. Also wenn ihr Land und Leute , die Kultur kennenlernen möchtet, dann kann ich diese Rundreise absolut empfehlen!!!!!

Fantastic experience with a fantastic guide!

I joined the Northern Thailand: Hilltribes & Villages on July 15, 2024. I truly had the most fantastic experience and created the most wonderful memories. As a solo female traveller, I felt completely safe. A huge heartfelt thank you to my guide Tew who was a friend to me for the duration of the week. Sharing all his knowledge, insight, kindness and taking the time to make my experience a great one! Thank you Tew! The trip brought me out of my comfort zone in the best possible ways. The scenery and views from the hiking journey was spectacular! I am so grateful I can say I have travelled to Thailand and grateful to of joined this tour specifically. This tour has given me the confidence and motivation to join another one in the future! From my experience on the Northern Thailand: Hilltribes & Villages, I look forward to returning to Thailand!

The first part was 5 star but the last was lacking. We paid for the five star upgrade for 10-day Thailand thru Legend Travel Group. Bangkok and Chiang Mai was fantastic. The private guides and drivers (Ken in BKK; Dare & Air, guide and driver in Chiang Mai) were amazing. They were knowledgeable and tailored our experiences. The hotels were gorgeous and convenient—Valia in BKK and Emperess Premier in Chiang Mai. I would, without hesitation recommend to use Legend for these two cities. The only comment for Chiang Mai would be the Golden Triangle day trip. It was seven hours of driving to see the Myanmar border and the Golden Triangle monument. There was not much else to see or do. The day would best be spent in the fascinating villages around Chiang Mai. The Phuket leg was lacking. Our arrival guide was unprepared and difficult to understand. The transfer driver was involved in a car accident on the way to the hotel. The guide did not check to see if we were ok. After the scene was secured, I asked her to request another car and driver to get us to the hotel. She was not proactive. The hotel was very disappointing. Oceanfront Beach Resort is not what we expected. The balcony looked at power lines and the side of a, not so nice, building. The property was not directly on the water, without direct water access. The beach was a 30 minute shuttle or a 15 minute walk to the first sandy areas. The walk involved narrow paths with heavy traffic. The staff frequently ignored my questions. I asked the Legend coordinator, Mr Danny for help with the room. His response was to pay additional $75/night to upgrade. After poor reception, car accident, and terrible room at a non waterfront resort without a beach, this was unacceptable. Some time later we were provided a different room The new room had a pool view and nice amenities. However, it had a persistent moldy locker room, old gym shoe smell. The toilet consistently had a sewage gas smell. The breakfast was nice, but not enough to rate five star hotel. Note, the local tour company provided a car and driver for an island tour to apologize for the accident. That was a pleasant experience. The Big Buddha is currently closed from a landslide. Phuket, Patong Beach, is not something that I recommend if you are not into the frat party scene. I would rather take the ferry to Phi Phi and stay at a resort there for day long boat water tours. Overall we enjoyed Thailand. The Phuket leg needs a hard look. As several reviews mirror similar issues.

Overall, a very well-balanced tour. The guide changed at each location. Ning in Bangkok was wonderful for our first introduction to Thailand. She was straightforward and adapted to our needs, doing far more for us than intended. We loved her. 4 temples in one day was tough, but still doable. The floating market and the market through which a train passes were very impressive experiences, which we also found ambivalent, as we were confronted with the poverty of the population. Chiang Mai was a special experience. The extremely long drive to the northern border was a little annoying. The Golden Triangle was interesting, but in hindsight not so exciting for the long drive. Our guide did a great job. We were particularly impressed by the elephant visit. The raft trip was also very nice. We always had very good food on the way. The transfer to Phuket went very well, we only had a guide there for the transfer from the airport to the hotel. We didn't like the extremely touristy Kata Beach and Phuket so much. Unfortunately, the island trip to the Phi Phi Islands was also a total tourist battle, I wouldn't do it again. What a shame. But even in retrospect, when we traveled on our own, these island trips were only ever available in this form, so this is not the fault of the tour operator, but country-specific. Overall, however, 5 stars for very good guides, excellent organization and a well-balanced programme.

This was the best trip we’ve ever taken! Thailand is an amazing country - beautiful scenery and warm and inviting people! The tour company was outstanding! They suggested additional outings that matched our interests. They were in contact with us every day - making sure that everything was ok and that we were enjoying our trip! Our guides and drivers also took great care of us! I can’t recommend this itinerary and tour company highly enough- they handled everything and made us feel special!

Our VIP organizer and assistant was wonderful. They were very communicative, and answered all the questions that we had throughout the trip. And we had a lot of questions. They were very good at coordinating our personally booked hotels before and after as well, and it was a, seamless transition from one to the other.

Wow!! What an amazing service, it was a wonderful experience all the places we saw, all the activities we live and all the amazing attention Thang give to us 🫰🏽 I 100% recommend this experience with them and if you have Thang with you, know that he is going to be for you all the time, he is in constant communication, give you all the details about the experience and solving all your questions, thank you for this wonderful experience 💕

The tour package was excellent! All representatives and tour guides were very professional and I was able to see a lot of Thailand in a short period of time. Thang was my coordinator from Realistic Asia and he was especially helpful and communicative to ensure my entire trip ran smoothly. I would highly recommend to everyone!!

I really enjoyed the tour and seeing highlights of Northern Thailand. The high energy, enthusiasm and kindness of tour leader Wit was much appreciated. Sleeping on an overnight train, a raft house and homestay was memorable. The only improvement I could suggest would be that the group all travel with the tour leader in one vehicle where possible.

As advertised, it was a full on tour. There were some long days, which sometimes included driving for several hours, but which also meant we got to experience a lot. I really feel I had a proper taste of Thailand; going on different modes of transport, staying at the homestay, visiting local markets, learning about the culture, religion, experiencing all different kinds of food, learning about the plants and birds. The itinerary was really good, but our tour leader, Pok, made the experience truly magnificent. He was so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He was well-prepared, very observant, funny and just a really nice man. I would highly recommend this tour.

Hotels were not 4 star as promised

Me and my wife were very exited it was so beautiful this country I highly recommend this trip.

The tour was a complete success, the organization was flawless and our two guides were competent and helpful. The bad weather (rain) in the second half was just bad luck.

Excellent trip, OA and Big were excellent guides, very informative and funny. Got to see the real northern thailand

great fun and flexible

I like the visit to the Grand palace. The Grand Palace is a very huge marvelous structure. It is a majestic building built by different reigns of Thai Kings. Other sightseeing was very nice too, Thailand is different and unique. Especially, food is one of the best experience that I enjoy.

It’s described as being active but it’s not really. I arrived the first day and picked up by Beer who was lovely. The next day we went for a bike tour of the temples which was described as being 20km in the itinery. It’s was actually 2km ish and took 1 hour including temples stops. Then we waited around for an hour to take a boat ride up the river. The next day was white water rafting and a bike ride (this was cancelled as no longer available but they told me this before I arrived). The white water rafting was good. I spoke with the company about the lack of

Terribly unorganised and unprofessional. They cancelled the 2 activities of the first day within 24 hrs without contacting me, I had to find out by checking the itinerary. They did not answer messages at all quicky and ignored me multiple times. I selected a private room and they put me in shared accommodation in the cheapest hostel available with incredibly unhyngenic facilities (I had stayed in a lovely hostel the night before) when I complained about this they ignored the message. I requested cancellation of the tour for the above reasons and they ignored that message until 2am (12 hrs +). I would absolutely not recommend this tour, it is premium prices which I paid for the ease and comfort and they provided neither. The hostel did not know how to contact them and when I called the number no one answered.
