- Uyuni Salt Flats & Desert Adventure 4D/3N (Atacama to Atacama)
Thank you so much to Bamba for allowing me to reschedule my tour at the very last minute with no problems (a special shout out to Judith Flores who sorted it all with me and communicated with me quickly). The tour was fantastic! Very cold at night (especially during winter) but I knew that when booking, just make sure you have lots of warm clothing! The guide was informative and fun, the food was great, especially nice to have hot food during the day and evening when you are constantly on the move. Definitely recommend!

The Bolivian Altiplano offers remarkable natural landmarks starting with Tunupa Volcano which rises to 5950m. The vast Uyuni Salt Flats stretch across 12000 square kilometers creating an other-worldly landscape. The Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve houses the red-tinted Laguna Colorada where flamingos gather in large numbers. Travelers can explore the Sol de Mañana geysers at 4900m and see the distinctive Stone Tree formation in the Siloli Desert. Accommodations range from the modern Hotel Campo Base in San Pedro de Atacama to traditional salt hotels in Uyuni. A TourRadar traveler shared: "Going through the various landscapes was a natural feast for the eyes: vast deserts colored lagoons unique rock formations shapely valleys and the impressive Uyuni salt flats."
What level of fitness is required for a Mountain tour in the Bolivian Altiplano?
The high elevations of 4000-5000 meters in the Bolivian Altiplano require moderate physical fitness. Daily activities include walks around volcanic sites such as the Sol de Mañana geysers exploring cacti-covered paths on Incahuasi Island and traversing the Siloli Desert. Guests stay at locations like the Hotel de Sal in Colchani and basic mountain refuges in Huayllajara where some walking is necessary to access facilities. A TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The altitude adjustment is no joke. Be prepared for the change in height but our guide David was very patient and always made sure we were okay."
How many days should I plan for a comprehensive Mountain tour in the Bolivian Altiplano?
To properly experience the Bolivian Altiplano's diverse landscapes plan for 4-8 days. Standard tours typically run 3-4 days focusing on salt flats and mountain areas with stays at the Hotel de Sal in Colchani and Huayllajara Refuge. For those wanting to add La Paz and Lake Titicaca to their itinerary 8-9 days provides adequate time. A TourRadar traveler mentioned: "Our 3-day adventure was well-paced with plenty of time at each location to properly soak in the incredible landscapes and take photos."
What wildlife can I expect to see during a Mountain tour in the Bolivian Altiplano?

A TourRadar traveler shared: "For animal lovers I saw tons of flamingos llamas and vultures. The lagoons were particularly impressive with their wildlife especially at Laguna Hedionda with its large flamingo populations."

During these months clear skies and mild temperatures make exploring the Uyuni Salt Flats and hiking Tunupa Volcano more enjoyable. Popular destinations like Laguna Colorada and Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve are easier to access. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The adventure tour was outstanding! We hit all the beautiful stops with great pacing and we had plenty of time in each location to soak it all in."
